Engine Cooling System: Removal & Installation Cadillac SRX II facelift

Cooling System (Mechanical) 18 illustrations ~1190 words

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill LF1)»(ref-644718-S00232456442014072300000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)»(ref-644718-S35370745522014072300000) .
  2. Remove the intake manifold cover. Refer to «Intake Manifold Cover Replacement»(ref-644732-S38415281782014072300000) .
  3. Disengage tension on the radiator inlet hose clamp (1) at the radiator using BO-38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
  4. Remove the radiator inlet hose (2) from the radiator.
  5. Unclip radiator inlet hose connector (1) and remove the radiator inlet hose (2) from the engine.
  6. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install radiator inlet hose to the vehicle.
  2. Clip the radiator inlet hose (2) to the engine.
  3. Install the radiator inlet hose (2) to the radiator.
  4. Engage tension on the radiator inlet hose clamp (1) at the radiator using BO-38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
  5. Install the intake manifold cover. Refer to «Intake Manifold Cover Replacement»(ref-644732-S38415281782014072300000) .
  6. Fill the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill LF1)»(ref-644718-S00232456442014072300000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)»(ref-644718-S35370745522014072300000) .
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill LF1)»(ref-644718-S00232456442014072300000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)»(ref-644718-S35370745522014072300000) .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(ref-644691-S41218068962014072300000) .
  3. Remove the radiator air lower deflector. Refer to «Radiator Air Lower Deflector Replacement»(ref-644705-S13733901552014072300000) .
  4. Disengage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (1) at the radiator using BO-38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
  5. Remove the radiator outlet hose (2) from the radiator.
  6. Disengage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (1) at the engine using BO-38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
  7. Remove the radiator outlet hose (2) from the engine.
  8. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the vehicle.
  1. Install radiator outlet hose to the vehicle.
  2. Install the radiator outlet hose (2) to the engine.
  3. Engage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (1) at the engine using BO-38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
  4. Install the radiator outlet hose (2) to the radiator.
  5. Engage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (1) at the radiator using BO-38185 Hose Clamp Pliers.
  6. Install the radiator air lower deflector. Refer to «Radiator Air Lower Deflector Replacement»(ref-644705-S13733901552014072300000) .
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Fill the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill LF1)»(ref-644718-S00232456442014072300000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)»(ref-644718-S35370745522014072300000) .

2Engine Cooling Thermostat Gasket NOTE: Replace with NEW gasket.
3Engine Cooling Thermostat Procedure Clean the engine block and the thermostat gasket surfaces. Replace the gasket and any worn hoses.

Scheme 12: Water Outlet Replacement

Preliminary Procedure Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill LF1) , Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) . Remove the right engine mount bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side . Remove the radiator inlet hose from the water outlet. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LF1, LFW or LFX) . Remove the engine coolant air bleed pipe from the water outlet. Refer to Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LFW, LFX) .
1Bolt (Qty: 2) CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution . Tighten 10 N.m (88 lb in)

3Seal NOTE: Clean the surfaces and replace the seal.

Water Outlet Replacement

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill LF1)»(ref-644718-S00232456442014072300000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)»(ref-644718-S35370745522014072300000) .
  2. Remove the generator drive belt. Refer to «Drive Belt Replacement»(ref-644732-S34958547892014072300000) .
  3. Use the EN 46104 water pump pulley holder (1) to retain the pulley.
  4. Remove the water pump pulley fasteners and DISCARD the fasteners.
  5. Remove the water pump pulley.
  6. Remove the water pump fasteners and DISCARD the fasteners.
  7. Remove the water pump.
  8. Remove and DISCARD the water pump seal.
  9. Carefully clean the water pump sealing surfaces.
  1. Install a NEW water pump seal.
  2. Install the water pump.
  3. Install the NEW water pump fasteners and hand tighten the water pump fasteners.
  4. Tighten the water pump fasteners in sequence. On the initial pass, tighten the fasteners in sequence to 10 (89 lb in). On the second pass, tighten the fasteners in sequence to 10 (89 lb in). On the final pass, tighten the fasteners in sequence shown an additional 45 degrees.
  5. Install the water pump pulley and the NEW water pump pulley fasteners.
  6. Use the EN 46104 water pump pulley holder (1) to hold the pulley.
  7. Install the water pump pulley fasteners and tighten to 12 (108 lb in) .
  8. Install the generator drive belt. Refer to «Drive Belt Replacement»(ref-644732-S34958547892014072300000) .
  9. Fill the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill LF1)»(ref-644718-S00232456442014072300000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)»(ref-644718-S35370745522014072300000) .

  6. Remove the radiator air upper seal. Refer to «Radiator Air Upper Seal Replacement»(ref-644718-S01047928532014072300000)

  8. Remove the radiator air side seal. Refer to «Radiator Air Seal Replacement»(ref-644718-S03309816572014072300000)
  9. Remove the radiator air side baffels. Refer to «Radiator Air Side Baffle Replacement - Left Side»(ref-644718-S20531578582014072300000) , and «Radiator Air Side Baffle Replacement - Right Side»(ref-644718-S17570791322014072300000)
  10. Remove the air conditioning condenser. Refer to «Air Conditioning Condenser Replacement»(ref-644713-S09818237822014072300000)
  11. Remove the radiator inlet hose. Refer to «Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LF1, LFW or LFX)»(ref-644718-S00978669462014072300000)
  12. Remove the radiator outlet hose. Refer to «Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LF1, LFW or LFX)»(ref-644718-S33777765342014072300000)
  13. Remove the radiator upper support bracket bolts (1).
  14. Remove the radiator upper support brackets (2).
  15. Remove the radiator (1) from the vehicle.
  1. Install the radiator (1) to the vehicle.
  2. Install the radiator upper support brackets (2).
  3. Install the radiator upper support bracket bolts (1) and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  4. Install the radiator outlet hose. Refer to «Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LF1, LFW or LFX)»(ref-644718-S33777765342014072300000)
  5. Install the radiator inlet hose. Refer to «Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LF1, LFW or LFX)»(ref-644718-S00978669462014072300000)
  6. Install the air conditioning condenser. Refer to «Air Conditioning Condenser Replacement»(ref-644713-S09818237822014072300000)
