Fastener Tightening Specifications

Hood Adjustment

1. Loosen the fasteners (2) that secure the hood to the hood hinges (1).
2. Adjust the hood in order to obtain an even gab on both sides between the hood and the fenders and so that the hood is flush with both fenders on the front edge.
3. Tighten the fasteners (2) in order to secure the hood to the hood hinges (1). Tighten: Tighten the fasteners to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

Removal Procedure

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the front hood bumpers from vehicle by turning counterclockwise.

Installation Procedure

1. Position the hood bumpers to the opening in the upper tie bar.
2. Turn the hood bumpers clockwise until the height (A) of 16 mm (5/8 in) is achieved.

1. Open the hood.
2. Using a grease pencil, mark the location of the hinge on the hood assembly.
3. Apply tape to corners of panel and adjacent surfaces to help prevent paint damage.
4. Disconnect the windshield washer hose connection. Refer to «Hose Replacement - Windshield Washer»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/wiperwasher-systems/#wiper-system-washer-system) in Wipers/Washer Systems.
5. Remove the hood assist rods (2). Refer to «Assist Rod Replacement - Hood»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
6. With the aid of an assistant, remove the bolts (2) securing the hood to the hood hinge.
7. With the aid of an assistant, remove the hood from the vehicle.

1. With the aid of an assistant, position the hood to the vehicle.
2. Position the hinge to the grease pencil marks on the hood.
3. With the aid of an assistant, install the bolts (2) in order to secure the hood to the hood hinge. Tighten: Tighten the bolts (2) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
4. Install the hood assist rods (2). Refer to «Assist Rod Replacement - Hood»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
5. Connect the windshield washer hose connection. Refer to «Hose Replacement - Windshield Washer»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/wiperwasher-systems/#wiper-system-washer-system) in Wipers/Washer Systems.
6. Slowly close the hood checking for adjustment, adjust if necessary. Refer to «Hood Adjustment»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end__hood-adjustment) .
7. Remove the tape from the hood and the fenders.
8. Close the hood.

1. Open and support the hood.
2. Using a wax pencil, scribe the location of the hood hinge on the hood.
3. Apply tape to corners of panel and adjacent surfaces to help prevent paint damage.
4. Remove the hood. Refer to «Hood Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
5. Remove the fender. Refer to «Fender Replacement - Front»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
6. Remove the bolts (1) that secure the hinge to the motor compartment.
7. Remove the hinge from the vehicle.

1. Install the hinge to the vehicle.
2. Install the bolts (1) in order to secure the hinge to the motor compartment. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).
3. Install the hood. Refer to «Hood Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
4. Install the fender. Refer to «Fender Replacement - Front»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
5. Close the hood and inspect for fit.
6. Adjust the hood as necessary. Refer to «Hood Adjustment»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end__hood-adjustment) .
7. Remove the tape from the panel and adjacent surfaces.

Hood Latch Adjustment

1. With the hood latch attaching fasteners (1) loose, slowly lower the hood onto the latch (2) in order to achieve the proper cross vehicle adjustment of the hood latch.
2. Raise the hood.
3. Tighten the fasteners. Tighten: Tighten the fasteners (1) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

1. Remove the bolts (1) that secure the hood latch to the vehicle.
2. Disconnect the hood release cable (1) from the hood latch (2).
3. Remove the hood latch (2) from the vehicle.

1. Connect the hood release cable (1) to the hood latch (2).
2. Position the hood latch (2) to the vehicle.
3. Install the bolts (1) to secure the hood latch to the vehicle. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
4. Adjust the hood primary latch (2). Refer to «Hood Latch Adjustment»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end__hood-latch-adjustment) .

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the hood latch. Refer to «Hood Latch Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
3. Disconnect the hood release cable from the hood latch.
4. Tie a piece of string around the hood release cable. This will ease the installation of the hood release cable through the engine compartment.
5. Remove the fasteners (3) securing the hood release handle (1) to the vehicle.
6. Disconnect the hood release cable (2) from the hood release handle (1).
7. Tie a piece of string around the hood release cable. This will ease the installation of the hood release cable through the engine compartment.
8. Remove the hood release cable grommet from the wheel opening.
9. Remove the hood release cable from the vehicle.

1. Transfer the string to either end of the new hood release cable.
2. Route the string and the hood release cable into the passenger compartment.
3. Remove the string from the hood release cable.
4. Seat the hood release cable grommet into the wheel opening.
5. Connect the hood release cable (2) to the hood release handle (1).
6. Install the fasteners (3) in order to secure the hood release handle (1) to the vehicle. Tighten: Tighten the fasteners to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
7. Pull the string and the hood release cable through the engine compartment.
8. Remove the string from the hood release cable.
9. Connect the hood release cable to the hood latch.
10. Install the hood latch. Refer to «Hood Latch Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
11. Close the hood.

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the push-in retainers retaining the hood insulator to the hood.
3. Remove the hood insulator from the hood.

1. Position the hood insulator to the hood.
2. Install the push-in retainers in order to secure the hood insulator to the hood.
3. Close the hood.

1. Open and support the hood.
2. Using a small flat bladed tool, release the clip retaining the hood assist rod to the lower assist rod ball stud (3).
3. Using a small flat bladed tool, release the clip retaining the hood assist rod to the upper assist rod ball stud (1).
4. Remove the hood assist rod (2) from the vehicle.

1. Press the hood assist rod (2) onto the upper hood assist rod ball stud (1).
2. Press the hood assist rod (2) onto the lower hood assist rod ball stud (3).
3. Ensure that both clips are fully seated on the hood assist rod (2).
4. Close the hood.

1. Open and support the hood.
2. Remove the assist rod. Refer to «Assist Rod Replacement - Hood»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
3. Remove the lower hood assist rod ball stud (1) from the fender.
4. Remove the upper hood assist rod ball stud (2) from the hood.

1. Install the upper assist rod ball stud (2) to the hood. Tighten: Tighten the upper hood assist rod ball stud (2) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
2. Install lower ball stud (1) to the fender. Tighten: Tighten the lower hood assist rod ball stud (1) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
3. Install assist rod. Refer to «Assist Rod Replacement - Hood»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/hoistjack/#general-information) in General Information.
2. Remove the push-in retainers securing the air deflector to the vehicle.
3. Remove the front air deflector.

1. Position the front air deflector to the vehicle.
2. Install the push-in retainers to secure the air deflector to the engine cradle.
3. Install the push-in retainers to secure the front of the air deflector to the fascia.
4. Lower the vehicle.

Scheme 1

1. Apply tape to corners of panel and adjacent surfaces to help prevent paint damage.
2. Remove the front bumper fascia. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) .
3. Remove the headlamp. Refer to «Headlamp Assembly or Headlamp Bulb and/or Cornering, Sidemarker, Park, Turn Signal Bulb Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-lights/#lighting-systems-introduction-2-of-2) in Lighting Systems.
4. Remove the hood. Refer to «Hood Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
5. Remove the front wheelhouse liner. Refer to «Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Front»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
6. Remove the front section of the rocker panel molding. Refer to «Molding Replacement - Rocker Panel»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim) in Exterior Trim.
7. Remove the front fender sound insulator. Refer to «Fender Sound Insulator Replacement - Front»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
8. Remove the bolts (1) securing the lower front portion of the front fender to the vehicle.
9. Remove the bolts (2) securing the lower rear portion of the front fender to the vehicle.
10. Remove the bolt (2) securing the upper rear portion of the front fender to the vehicle.
11. Loosen the bolt on the inside of fender to door pillar.
12. Remove shield from upper portion of fender by depressing tabs, battery side only. Remove the bolts (1) securing the upper portion of the front fender to the vehicle.
13. Remove the front fender from the vehicle.

1. Position the front fender to the vehicle.
2. Install the bolts (1) in order to secure the upper portion of the front fender to the vehicle. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
3. Install the bolt (2) in order to secure the rear portion of the front fender to the vehicle. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
4. Install the bolts (2) in order to secure the lower rear portion of the front fender to the vehicle. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
5. Install the bolts (1) in order to secure the lower front portion of the front fender to the vehicle. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
6. Install the hood. Refer to «Hood Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
7. Install the front wheelhouse liner. Refer to «Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Front»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
8. Install the rocker panel molding. Refer to «Molding Replacement - Rocker Panel»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim) in Exterior Trim.
9. Install the headlamp. Refer to «Headlamp Assembly or Headlamp Bulb and/or Cornering, Sidemarker, Park, Turn Signal Bulb Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-lights/#lighting-systems-introduction-2-of-2) in Lighting Systems.
10. Install the front fender sound insulator. Refer to «Fender Sound Insulator Replacement - Front»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
11. Remove the tape.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/hoistjack/#general-information) in General Information.
2. Remove the push-in retainers securing the wheelhouse liner to the vehicle.
3. Remove the wheelhouse liner from the vehicle.

1. Position the front wheelhouse liner to the vehicle.
2. Install the push-in retainers to secure the wheelhouse liner to the vehicle.

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the bolts from the cross vehicle brace.
3. Remove the cross vehicle brace from the vehicle.

1. Install the cross vehicle brace to the vehicle.
2. Install the bolts to the cross vehicle brace. Tighten: Tighten the cross vehicle brace bolts to 112 N.m (83 lb ft).
3. Close the hood.

1. Remove the windshield wiper arms. Refer to «Wiper Arm Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/wiperwasher-systems/#wiper-system-washer-system) in Wipers/Washer Systems.
2. Remove the upper air inlet panel fasteners.
3. Remove the upper air inlet panel.
4. Remove the lower air inlet panel fasteners.
5. Remove the lower air inlet panel support bracket retainer from the master cylinder mounting stud.
6. Remove the lower air inlet panel.

1. Position the lower air inlet panel to the vehicle.
2. Install the lower air inlet panel support bracket retainer to the master cylinder mounting stud.
3. Install the lower air inlet panel fasteners.
4. Position the upper air inlet panel to the vehicle.
5. Install the upper air inlet panel fasteners.
6. Install the windshield wiper arms. Refer to «Wiper Arm Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/wiperwasher-systems/#wiper-system-washer-system) in Wipers/Washer Systems.

1. Remove the push-in retainers.
2. Using a trim pad clip removal tool, carefully work the seal off the hood from side to side.
3. Remove the front hood seal from the hood.

1. Position the front hood seal to the hood.
2. Install the push-in retainers to secure the front hood seal to the hood.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/hoistjack/#general-information) in General Information.
2. Remove the push-in retainers securing the splash shield to the vehicle.
3. Remove the splash shield from the vehicle.

1. Position the splash shield to the vehicle.
2. Install the push-in retainers to secure the splash shield to the vehicle.

1. Open the front door.
2. Remove the push-in retainers securing the front fender sound insulator to the vehicle.
3. Remove the front fender sound insulator from the vehicle.

1. Position the front fender sound insulator to the vehicle.
2. Install the push-in fasteners in order to secure the front fender sound insulator to the vehicle.
3. Close the door.

1. Remove the battery tray. Refer to «Battery Tray Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/charging-system/#battery-charging-system-and-starting-system) in Engine Electrical.
2. Remove the cowl drain valve from the vehicle.

1. Install the cowl drain valve to the vehicle.
2. Install the battery tray. Refer to «Battery Tray Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/charging-system/#battery-charging-system-and-starting-system) in Engine Electrical.

Air Inlet Grille Panel Water Flow Direction and Cleaning

A large percentage of water will flow off the windshield area into the air inlet grille panel drain system and then down the outside on the air inlet grille panel to the underside of the vehicle. To ensure that the air inlet grille panel water management system performs properly, the air inlet grille panel, and drains must not be blocked with debris.

In the graphic below the gray arrows show the water flow direction in the air inlet grille panel and drains system.

Scheme 2

The air inlet grille panel is located in front of the windshield.

1. Remove the upper air inlet grille panel. Refer to «Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
2. Clean the lower air inlet grille panel of debris blockage.
3. Flush the lower air inlet grille panel with clean water.
4. Install the upper air inlet grille panel. Refer to «Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/i-2003-2009/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) .
