DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
Fuel door can be opened by depressing fuel door release switch, located in glove box, or by manual release cable in trunk. Trunk lid can be opened by a trunk lid release switch mounted on instrument panel. Trunk lid release switch has a valet setting to disable trunk lid operation. Trunk lid may also be opened by Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module. RFA module receives signals electronically from Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter.
All models use a power trunk pull down system that pulls down and latches the trunk lid during the last 1" (25 mm) of travel. A combination latch/release mechanism is located in the trunk lid. A permanent magnet pull down actuator motor is located in the trunk. (Scheme 4)
When the trunk lid is closed, very light pressure is required to cause the latch to grab the extended striker on the motor. The motor will then run, taking the lid to its completely closed position. The key lock frame then depresses the plunger switch, breaking the circuit to the motor. The motor will then shut off.

SYMPTOM TESTS
Note. Symptom tests are written specifically for use with GM Tech I or Tech II scan tools. Generic scan tool can be used but may have limited functions.
Note. On models with RKE system, check operation of all RKE transmitter functions. If RKE transmitter is malfunctioning, see KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM - REMOTE article.
Trunk Lid Opens With RKE Transmitter Only
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located left of steering column on hood release bracket. Check if any DTCs exist. If DTCs exist, see «TESTS W/CODES»(/cadillac/eldorado/x-1992-2002/remont/testing-diagnostics/#engine-controls-tests-wcodes-46l) article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. If DTCs do not exist, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, check trunk release switch input. If trunk release input is not received at Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), go to next step. If trunk release switch input is received at IPC and trunk lid does not open, replace IPC. See «INSTRUMENT PANEL»(/cadillac/eldorado/x-1992-2002/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel) article.
- Disconnect Driver Information Center (DIC) connector (Eldorado and Seville) or headlight switch connector (Concours and DeVille). Connect test light between ground and headlight switch connector C1, terminal "J" (Black wire - Concours and DeVille) or DIC connector C1, terminal No. 11 (Black wire - Eldorado and Seville). On all models, if test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, check for open in Black wire. If Black wire is okay, replace IPC. See «INSTRUMENT PANEL»(/cadillac/eldorado/x-1992-2002/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel) article.
- On Concours and DeVille, connect test light between headlight switch connectors C1, terminal "J" (Black wire) and connector C2, terminal "E" (Black wire). On Eldorado and Seville, connector test light between DIC connector terminals No. 11 (Black wire) and 15 (Black/White wire).
