Door Locks & Anti-Theft Systems 2 illustrations ~898 words

DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system, also known as Remote Function Actuator (RFA) system, allows driver to operate several features from outside vehicle. Main components of system are the transmitter and receiver module. Transmitter unit sends a radio signal to the receiver module in response to button presses by vehicle operator. Receiver module then interprets signals and activates required circuitry to provide requested function.

Pressing unlock button once will unlock driver's door, turn on illuminated entry lights, and disarm theft system. Pressing unlock button a second time within 4 seconds will unlock all doors. This function will be disabled if ignition is on.

Pressing lock button will lock all doors. Pressing trunk button will unlock trunk. This feature is disabled if transmission is not in Park and ignition is on. Pressing fuel door button will o fuel door.

TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING

Note. Before starting this procedure, both transmitters must be present. For programming purposes, procedure questions will be answered with a yes or no response. FAN UP is yes. FAN DOWN is no.

ANALOG INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

  1. Press OFF and WARM buttons on Climate Control Panel (CCP) simultaneously. Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) will light all telltales, then go blank. System is now in DIAGNOSTIC MODE. Press PASSENGER COOLER button until "RFA?" is displayed, then press FAN UP. If "RFA DATA?" is displayed, press FAN DOWN. If "RFA OVERRIDE?" is displayed, press FAN UP.
  2. If "RFA S00 NO OVERRIDE" is displayed, press FAN DOWN. If "RFA S01 PROGRAM FOB #I" is displayed, press FAN UP.
  3. IPC will show "0" on right side of Driver Information Center (DIC) display. Press warmer button on climate control until unit until "99" is displayed.
  4. Press and hold TRUNK button on transmitter. While holding TRUNK button, press LOCK button and hold for one second. Hold both buttons for a total of 3 seconds. Locks cycle when programming is complete. If transmitter is not programmed within 30 seconds after entering "99" override display, system will default and you must begin again at step 2).
  5. To program second transmitter, press FAN DOWN button until "RF S02 PROGRAM FOB #Z" is displayed, then press FAN UP. Repeat step 4). To exit system, press AUTO, MODE UP, MODE DOWN, or RESET.

DIGITAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

  1. Press OFF and WARM buttons on Climate Control Center (CCC) simultaneously. Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) will light all telltales, go blank, then enter DIAGNOSTIC MODE. Press FAN DOWN button to scroll through system until "RFA?" is displayed, then press FAN UP button. Press FAN DOWN button until "RFA OVERRIDE" is displayed, then press FAN UP button. When "NO OVRD RF S00" is displayed, press FAN UP button.
  2. When "PGM Fobl S01" is displayed, press WARM button and "99" will be displayed in left upper corner of IPC, just below odometer. System is now ready to program transmitter.
  3. Press and hold TRUNK button on transmitter. While holding TRUNK button, press LOCK button and hold for one second. Hold both buttons for a total of 3 seconds. Locks will cycle when programming is complete. If transmitter is not programmed within 30 seconds after entering "99" override display, system will default and you must begin again at step 2).
  4. To program second transmitter, press FAN UP button until "PGM FOB2 S02" is displayed, then follow steps 2) and 3) to program transmitter. To exit system, press RECIRC or RESET buttons.

SYNCHRONIZING TRANSMITTERS

To synchronize transmitters after battery replacement, press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously. Lights will flash and horn will cycle, then synchronization will be complete.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

Ensure retained accessory power system operates correctly by checking if radio operates after ignition is turned off for 10 minutes or until door is opened. Check if door locks work from all door lock switches. Ensure theft deterrent arming and disarming functions correctly. See ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM article. Check COMFORT fuse in trunk compartment fuse block and replace as necessary. Ensure all power and ground circuits are clean and tight.

ONE REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) TRANSMITTER DOES NOT OPERATE

Check transmitter battery. Ensure RFA module is programmed for both transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING .

BOTH REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) TRANSMITTERS DO NOT OPERATE ALL SYSTEM FUNCTIONS

Ensure RFA module is programmed. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING . Check RFA module power and ground connections.

SOME OR NO SYSTEM FUNCTIONS OPERATE FROM BOTH REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) TRANSMITTERS

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) and enter on-board diagnostics. If display does not read NO RFA DATA, go to next step. If display reads NO RFA DATA, problem is not in RFA system.
  2. Retrieve RFA fault codes with scan tool. If DTC RF2556 is not present, go to next step. If DTC RF2556 is present, reprogram both transmitters. See «TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING»(/cadillac/eldorado/x-1992-2002/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#keyless-entry-system-remote__transmitter-programming) . If transmitters still do not operate correctly, replace RFA.
  3. Check if DTC RF2560 is present. If DTC RF2560 is not present, replace RFA. If DTC RF2560 is present, synchronize both transmitters. See «SYNCHRONIZING TRANSMITTERS»(/cadillac/eldorado/x-1992-2002/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#keyless-entry-system-remote__synchronizing-transmitters) . If transmitters are still not operating properly, replace RFA.

Removal & Installation

Remove rear seat. Disconnect wiring harness. Remove RFA receiver module from left side of electronics by board by pressing on locking tabs. (Scheme 8) To install, reverse removal procedure.
