TROUBLE SHOOTING
Note. To trouble shoot engine mechanical components, see appropriate table in TROUBLE SHOOTING article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
2.8L (173")
Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Drain crankcase and remove flywheel dust cover. Remove starter. Remove oil pan bolts and oil pan.
4.1L (250")
Disconnect negative battery cable, raise vehicle and drain crankcase. Disconnect oil level sensor, flywheel cover, and exhaust "Y" pipe. Remove oil pan bolts and 2 nuts from studs. Remove oil pan.
4.5L (273")
Disconnect negative battery cable, raise vehicle and drain crankcase. Remove 2 flywheel access covers, disconnect exhaust "Y" pipe at manifolds, remove bolts from converter and lower exhaust. Remove oil pan bolts, and remove pan.
5.0L (307")
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove oil dipstick. Remove fan shroud attaching screws. Raise vehicle. Drain oil pan. Remove drive plate cover. Disconnect crossover pipe. Remove starter. Disconnect engine mounts at cylinder block. Raise front of engine as far as possible. Remove oil pan.
