Power Seat System Cadillac DeVille Concours I final

Seats 15 illustrations ~9705 words

DESCRIPTION

Power seats operate using toggle switches located on seat side or in door panel. Seat adjusters are powered by a 12-volt, reversible motor with an internal circuit breaker. A 30-amp, plug-in circuit breaker, located in fuse panel, protects power seat wiring. Memory seats, power seat recliners, heated seats, power lumbar, and massaging lumbar are available as an option.

POWER SEATS

Power seats use 3 reversible motors that operate seat functions. Front and back parts of seat are operated by different motors, and can be raised and lowered independently. Third motor controls forward/back movement of entire seat assembly. Drive cables connect motor to gearnuts, which turn jackscrews and adjusters at each side of seat. Power operated reclining seatback use one motor per side, mounted to seat frame. Recliner motor moves dual reclining actuators on each side of seat with a cable.

Eldorado is equipped with inertia seatback locks on the front bucket seats. This enables the seatback to be moved forward to allow easy access to rear seat without having to depress a release button or lever. On sudden stops, deceleration or if the nose of the vehicle is pointed down at 20 percent or greater incline, the inertia locks prevent the seatback from moving forward.

LUMBAR SEATS

Four-way power lumbar support is an option on DeVille and Eldorado. Power is supplied by PWR SEAT (30-amp) circuit breaker in fuse block. Both front seats are controlled by the lumbar switch and two reversible motors which operate separately from each other. Each motor contains an electronic circuit breaker. Lumbar switch is located on the lower outboard side of each seat, near door and directly controls functions of lumbar motors.

Massaging lumbar is an option on DeVille and Eldorado. Pushing up on lumbar control switch will activate massage feature for 10 minutes. Massage cycle can be interrupted by pushing down briefly on lumbar control switch. Lumbar support can be adjusted during massage cycle by moving lumbar control switch forward for increased support and rearward for decreased support. Massage feature will continue to operate for complete 10 minute cycle even if ignition is turned to OFF position, unless interrupted.

COMPONENT LOCATIONS

SEAT ADJUSTER PHASING

When installing power seat adjusters (except at back recliner), ensure each pair of adjusters is in phase. When adjusters are out of phase, one adjuster will reach its maximum travel limit before the other, resulting in improper seat travel.

Horizontal Travel

Operate seat until one adjuster reaches full forward position. Disconnect horizontal drive cable from adjuster which has reached its travel limit. Operate seat forward until other adjuster reaches its full forward position. Reconnect drive cable of first adjuster. Adjusters are now in phase.

Vertical Travel (Front Or Rear)

  1. Operate seat until one adjuster reaches fully raised position at both front and rear vertical travel limits. Disconnect both front and rear vertical drive cables from adjuster which has reached its travel limit.
  2. Operate seat until other adjuster reaches fully raised position. Reconnect previously disconnected front and rear vertical drive cables. Seat adjusters should be in phase. If not, repeat procedure.

PRELIMINARY INSPECTION

Note. Before performing SYSTEM CHECK, check the following items to eliminate common problems

  1. If power accessory circuit breaker opens whenever power seat switch is operated, check circuits for a short to ground. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/deville-concours/i-final-1999-1999/remont/seats/#power-seat-system__wiring-diagrams) .
  2. Check for broken or partially broken wire inside of insulation, which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or resistive when loaded. Check by monitoring for voltage drop with system under load.
  3. Ensure ground connections are clean and tight.
  4. Before replacing components, check connectors and in-line connectors for looseness, corrosion or opens.
  5. Check for proper operation and installation of aftermarket components, such as alarms, cellular phones or stereo equipment that may effect operation of related systems and/or components.
  6. If system exhibits jerky horizontal operation, check for improper lubrication of adjuster shoes and channels.
  7. If one adjuster will not operate horizontally, check for disconnected or damaged horizontal drive cable. Check for inoperative horizontal actuator.
  8. If one adjuster will not operate vertically, check for disconnected or damaged vertical drive cable. Check vertical gearnut inoperative. Replace vertical actuator assembly if necessary.
  9. On heated seat systems, check HTD SEAT R fuse in rear fuse block. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in Orange wire.
  10. Check rear fuse block HTD SEAT L fuse. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in Orange wire.
  11. Check CONSOLE fuse in rear fuse block. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in Brown wire. If problem still exists, perform appropriate SYSTEM CHECK. See «SYSTEM CHECKS»(/cadillac/deville-concours/i-final-1999-1999/remont/seats/#power-seat-system__system-checks) .
