DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
All models use a power trunk pull-down system that pulls down and latches the trunk lid during the last 1" (25 mm) of travel. A combination latch/release mechanism is located in the trunk lid. A permanent magnet pull-down motor is located in the trunk lid opening lower panel. (Scheme 42)
When the trunk lid is closed, very light pressure is required to cause the latch to grab the extended striker on the motor. The motor will then run, taking the lid to its completely closed position. The key lock frame then depresses the plunger switch breaking the circuit to the motor. The motor will then shut off.

TESTING
Check the following items for possible causes of system malfunctions before performing individual tests.
- Ensure Trunk Lid Lock Securely Engages Striker
- Faulty Fuses Or Circuit Breaker
- Loose Or Corroded Connectors
- Low Battery Charge
- Poor Ground Connections
- Linkage Disconnected, Binding Or Bent
- Inoperative Lock Or Latch Mechanism
STRIKER DOES NOT EXTEND WITH TRUNK LID UNLATCHED
- Disconnect trunk pull-down motor connector. Connect test light between connector terminals "A" and "D". If test light comes on, install a known good striker switch and check that striker extends. If striker does not extend, replace pull-down motor. If striker extends, repair is complete.
- If test light did not come on in step 1), connect test light between terminal "A" and ground. If light comes on, repair open in motor ground circuit. If light does not come on, check for open circuit at instrument panel fuse.
- If fuse circuit is open, replace fuse and retest circuit. If use is open again, repair short-to-ground in fuse circuit. If fuse is not open, repair open in circuit between motor and fuse block.
STRIKER DOES NOT RETRACT WITH TRUNK LID CLOSED
- Disconnect trunk pull-down motor connector. Connect test light between connector terminals "A" and "D". If test light does not come on, go to step 4). If test light comes on, reinstall motor connector.
- Connect test light between terminal "B" and motor connector ground. If light comes on, manually move trunk latch switch to closed position. If test light goes out, replace pull-down motor. If light does not go out, check for open in latch switch circuits. If no open is found, replace latch switch.
- If test light was not on in step 2), Check motor connections. If connections are okay, install known good striker switch. If pull-down motor works, repair is complete. If motor does not work, replace pull-down motor.
Removal & Installation
Raise trunk lid to full open position. Disconnect pull-down motor connector. (Scheme 42) Remove motor-to-mounting bracket attaching bolts and remove motor. To install, reverse removal procedure.
