Alignment Checking

Insert a 19 mm (0.750 in) diameter guide pin or drill bit into the frame-to-body guide pin hole in order to inspect the frame-to-body alignment. If the guide pins will not fit, the frame is not in correct alignment with the body. To realign the frame refer to Frame Replacement - Front (W/AWD) or Frame Replacement - Front (W/FWD) and Crossmember Replacement .

Three-Dimensional Method

The repair equipment for measuring structural repair must be capable of measuring multiple points of length, height and width at the same time. Also you must measure 2/3 of the vehicle body to obtain accurate comparisons to the vehicle structure.

Universal measuring system combine the equipment and the techniques used to make the underbody and the upperbody three-dimensional measurement of length, width and height measurements at the same time.

Vehicles involved in an accident of any nature which might result in a bent or sprung frame should always be checked for proper frame alignment.

Frame-To-Body Alignment

Check the frame-to-body alignment by inserting a 19 mm (3/4 in) diameter guide pin or drill bit into the frame-to-body guide pin holes. If the guide pins will not fit the frame the frame is not in correct alignment with the body. To realign the frame refer to Frame Replacement - Front (W/AWD) or Frame Replacement - Front (W/FWD) and Crossmember Replacement .

Removal Procedure

1. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to «Engine Support Fixture»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-repair-instructions-1-of-5-36l-ly7__engine-support-fixture) in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7) or «Engine Support Fixture»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-34l-la1__engine-support-fixture) in Engine Mechanical - 3.4L.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/hoistjack/#general-information__lifting-and-jacking-the-vehicle) in General Information.
3. Remove the front tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) in Tires and Wheels.
4. Remove the front engine splash shield. Refer to «Splash Shield Replacement - Engine»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) in Body Front End.
5. Remove the stabilizer shaft. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) in Front Suspension.
6. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to «Propeller Shaft Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/driveshaft-universal-joints/#propeller-shaft) in Propeller Shaft.
7. Remove the catalytic converter pipe. Refer to «Catalytic Converter Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) in Engine Exhaust.
8. Remove the power steering gear. Refer to «Power Steering Gear Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) in Power Steering System.
9. Remove the inner fender liner enough to gain access to the front frame bolts. Refer to «Front Fender Liner Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) in Exterior Trim.
10. Disconnect the power steering cooler pipe from the pressure hose. Refer to «Power Steering Cooler Pipe/Hose Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) in Power Steering System.
11. Disconnect the front wheel speed sensor harness connectors.
12. Disconnect the front wheel speed sensor wiring harnesses from the lower control arms.
13. Disconnect the lower control arm from the steering knuckles. Refer to «Steering Knuckle Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) in Front Suspension.
14. Use the utility stand in order to raise the frame and powertrain.
15. Install the frame rear bolts. Refer to «Frame Replacement - Front (W/AWD)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) or «Frame Replacement - Front (W/FWD)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) .
16. Remove the utility stand from the frame.
17. Remove the engine mount nuts.
18. Remove the transaxle mount nuts.
19. Use a utility stand in order to support the powertrain at the transfer case.
20. Remove frame to body bolts.
21. Use the utility stand in order to lower the frame and powertrain.
22. Provide clearance for the frame to pass to the PTU.
23. Remove the frame from the vehicle. The frame will be around the utility stand.
24. Use a transmission stand to support the powertrain.
25. Remove the utility stand in order to free the frame from the utility stand.
26. If you are REPLACING the frame, perform the following steps: Remove the frame insulators from the frame. Refer to «Frame Cushion or Insulator Replacement - Front»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) . Remove the lower control arms from the frame. Refer to «Lower Control Arm Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) in Front Suspension. Remove the power steering cooler pipes from the frame. Refer to «Power Steering Cooler Pipe/Hose Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) in Power Steering System.

Installation Procedure

1. If you are REPLACING the frame, perform the following steps: Install the power steering cooler pipes to the frame. Refer to «Power Steering Cooler Pipe/Hose Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) in Power Steering System. Install the lower control arms to the frame. Refer to «Lower Control Arm Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) in Front Suspension. Install the frame insulators to the frame. Refer to «Frame Cushion or Insulator Replacement - Front»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) .
2. Use a utility stand with the frame around it to support the powertrain.
3. Remove the transmission stand from the powertrain.
4. Install the frame to the vehicle.
5. Use the utility stand to raise the frame and powertrain. IMPORTANT: Ensure that the alignment pins remain installed during the frame installation.
6. Insert two 19 mm (0.75 in) diameter X 203 mm (8 in) long guide pins or drill bits into the frame right side alignment holes in order to align the frame. NOTE: Refer to «Fastener Notice»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/oem-general-information/#cautions-and-notices__fastener-notice) in Cautions and Notices.
7. Install the frame to chassis front bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 155 N.m (114 lb ft).
8. Install the frame to chassis rear bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 240 N.m (177 lb ft).
9. Remove the alignment pins from the frame.
10. Install the transaxle mount nuts. Tighten: Tighten the nuts to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).
11. Install the engine mount nuts. Tighten: Tighten the nuts to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).
12. Remove the utility stand from the powertrain.
13. Use a utility stand to support the frame.
14. Remove the rear frame bolts.
15. Use the utility stand in order to lower the frame and powertrain.
16. Connect the wheel speed sensor wiring harnesses to the lower control arms.
17. Connect the wheel speed sensor harness connectors.
18. Connect the lower control arms to the steering knuckles. Refer to «Steering Knuckle Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) in Front Suspension.
19. Connect the power steering cooler pipe to the pressure hose. Refer to «Power Steering Cooler Pipe/Hose Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) in Power Steering System.
20. Install front fender liner. Refer to «Front Fender Liner Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) in Exterior Trim.
21. Install the power steering gear. Refer to «Power Steering Gear Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) in Power Steering System.
22. Install the catalytic converter pipe. Refer to «Catalytic Converter Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) in Engine Exhaust.
23. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to «Propeller Shaft Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/driveshaft-universal-joints/#propeller-shaft) in Propeller Shaft.
24. Install the stabilizer shaft. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) in Front Suspension.
25. Install the front engine splash shield. Refer to «Splash Shield Replacement - Engine»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) in Body Front End.
26. Install the front tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) in Tires and Wheels.
27. Lower the vehicle.
28. Remove the engine support fixture. Refer to «Engine Support Fixture»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-34l-la1__engine-support-fixture) in Engine Mechanical - 3.4L or «Engine Support Fixture»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-repair-instructions-1-of-5-36l-ly7__engine-support-fixture) in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).

Tools Required

J 39580 Universal Engine Support Table. See Special Tools and Equipment .

1. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to «Engine Support Fixture»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-34l-la1__engine-support-fixture) in Engine Mechanical - 3.4L or «Engine Support Fixture»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-repair-instructions-1-of-5-36l-ly7__engine-support-fixture) in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/hoistjack/#general-information__lifting-and-jacking-the-vehicle) in General Information.
3. Remove the front tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) in Tires and Wheels.
4. Remove the front engine splash shield. Refer to «Splash Shield Replacement - Engine»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) in Body Front End.
5. Remove the stabilizer shaft. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) in Front Suspension.
6. Remove the power steering gear. Refer to «Power Steering Gear Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) in Power Steering System.
7. Remove the inner fender liner enough to gain access to the front frame bolts. Refer to «Front Fender Liner Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) in Exterior Trim.

9. Disconnect the front wheel speed sensor harness connectors.
10. Disconnect the front wheel speed sensor wiring harnesses from the lower control arms.
11. Disconnect the lower control arm from the steering knuckles. Refer to «Steering Knuckle Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) in Front Suspension.
12. Remove the engine mount nuts.
13. Remove the transaxle mount nuts.
14. Lower the vehicle until the frame contacts the J 39580 .
15. Remove frame to body bolts.
16. Raise the vehicle in order to separate the frame from the vehicle.
17. If you are REPLACING the frame, perform the following steps: Remove the frame insulators from the frame. Refer to «Frame Cushion or Insulator Replacement - Front»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) . Remove the lower control arms from the frame. Refer to «Lower Control Arm Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) in Front Suspension. Remove the power steering cooler pipe from the frame. Refer to «Power Steering Cooler Pipe/Hose Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) in Power Steering System.

Install the frame insulators to the frame. Refer to «Frame Cushion or Insulator Replacement - Front»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) .
2. Position the J 39580 with the frame under the vehicle. See «Special Tools and Equipment»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) .
3. Lower the vehicle until the frame is close to the vehicle.

14. Install front fender liner. Refer to «Front Fender Liner Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) in Exterior Trim.
15. Install the power steering gear. Refer to «Power Steering Gear Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) in Power Steering System.
16. Install the stabilizer shaft. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) in Front Suspension.
17. Install the front engine splash shield. Refer to «Splash Shield Replacement - Engine»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) in Body Front End.
18. Install the front tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) in Tires and Wheels.
19. Lower the vehicle.
20. Remove the engine support fixture. Refer to «Engine Support Fixture»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-34l-la1__engine-support-fixture) in Engine Mechanical - 3.4L and «Engine Support Fixture»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-repair-instructions-1-of-5-36l-ly7__engine-support-fixture) in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/hoistjack/#general-information__lifting-and-jacking-the-vehicle) in General Information.
2. Remove the tire and the wheel. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) in Tires and Wheels.
3. Support rear differential carrier using a utility stand.
4. Remove the rear differential carrier mounting bolts (5) from the rear crossmember. Refer to «Differential Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/differentials-drive-axles/#rear-drive-axle) in Rear Drive Axle.
5. Remove the rear suspension knuckle. Refer to «Knuckle Replacement (All Wheel Drive)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) in Rear Suspension.
6. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor harness from the lower control arm and from the rear cross member.
7. Remove the rivets that attach the park brake cable to the rear crossmember.
8. Remove the automatic level control (ALC) height sensor and link from the crossmember bar and lower control arm. Refer to «Automatic Level Control Sensor Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/electronic-suspension/#suspension-control-system-suspension-leveling) in Automatic Level Control.
9. Secure the ALC wiring harness out of the way.
10. Using a utility jack, support the rear crossmember.
11. Remove the rear crossmember mounting bolts.
12. Lower the rear crossmember.
13. Remove the rear stabilizer shaft. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement (All Wheel Drive)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) in Rear Suspension.
14. Remove the rear axle upper control arms from the rear crossmember. Refer to «Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (All Wheel Drive)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) in Rear Suspension.
15. Remove the rear axle lower control arms from the rear crossmember. Refer to «Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement (All Wheel Drive)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) in Rear Suspension.
16. Remove the tie rods from the rear crossmember. Refer to «Tie Rod Replacement (Front Wheel Drive)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) or «Tie Rod Replacement (All Wheel Drive)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) in Rear Suspension.

1. Install the tie rods to the crossmember. Refer to «Tie Rod Replacement (Front Wheel Drive)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) or «Tie Rod Replacement (All Wheel Drive)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) in Rear Suspension.
2. Install the rear axle lower control arms onto the rear crossmember. Refer to «Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement (All Wheel Drive)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) in Rear Suspension.
3. Install the rear axle upper control arms onto the rear crossmember. Refer to «Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (All Wheel Drive)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) in Rear Suspension.
4. Install the rear stabilizer shaft onto the rear crossmember. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement (All Wheel Drive)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) in Rear Suspension.
5. Raise the rear crossmember.
6. Install the rear crossmember mounting bolts.
7. Tighten the mounting bolts. Tighten: Tighten the rear crossmember mounting bolts to 130 N.m (96 lb ft).
8. Install the ALC height sensor onto the crossmember and lower control arm. Refer to «Automatic Level Control Sensor Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/electronic-suspension/#suspension-control-system-suspension-leveling) in Automatic Level Control.
9. Install the rear differential carrier mounting bolts (5). Refer to «Differential Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/differentials-drive-axles/#rear-drive-axle) in Rear Drive Axle.
10. Attach the parking brake cable onto the rear crossmember. Refer to «Park Brake Cable Replacement - Left Rear (Disc)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) or «Park Brake Cable Replacement - Left Rear (Drum)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) and «Park Brake Cable Replacement - Right Rear (Disc)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) or «Park Brake Cable Replacement - Right Rear (Drum)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) in Park Brake.
11. Connect the wheel speed sensor harness onto the rear crossmember and the lower control arm.
12. Install the rear suspension knuckle. Refer to «Knuckle Replacement (All Wheel Drive)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) in Rear Suspension.
13. Install the tire and the wheel. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) in Tires and Wheels.
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Inspect for rear alignment and adjust as necessary. Refer to «Measuring Wheel Alignment»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-specifications-adjustment-procedures__measuring-wheel-alignment) in Wheel Alignment.

J 45296 Frame Insulator Remover/Installer. See Special Tools and Equipment .

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/hoistjack/#general-information__lifting-and-jacking-the-vehicle) in General Information.
2. Disconnect the steering intermediate shaft. Refer to «Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/ignition-switchsteering-lock/#steering-wheel-steering-column) in Steering Wheel and Column.
3. Install a jackstand under the center of the frame, between the front frame insulators.
4. Remove the front frame bolts and retainers.
5. Lower the front of the frame.
6. Remove the frame front upper insulators.
7. Install the J 45296 to the front frame insulator you are removing. See «Special Tools and Equipment»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) .
8. Using J 45296 , remove the front frame insulator from the frame. See «Special Tools and Equipment»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) .

1. Clean the front frame insulator opening.
2. Apply a thin coat of rubber lubricant GM P/N 1051717, Canadian P/N 5728223, or equivalent to the inside of the front frame insulator opening.
3. Apply a thin coat of rubber lubricant GM P/N 1051717, Canadian P/N 5728223, or equivalent to the front frame insulator.
4. Align the front frame insulator to the front frame opening with the front frame alignment tabs facing to the front.
5. Using J 45296 , install the front frame insulator to the front frame. See «Special Tools and Equipment»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) .
6. Install the frame front upper insulators.
7. Raise the front of the frame.
8. Install the front frame bolts and retainers. Tighten: Tighten the front frame bolts to 155 N.m (114 lb ft).
9. Remove the jackstand.
10. Connect the steering intermediate shaft. Refer to «Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/ignition-switchsteering-lock/#steering-wheel-steering-column) in Steering Wheel and Column.
11. Lower the vehicle.

Frame Cushion or Insulator Replacement - Rear

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/hoistjack/#general-information__lifting-and-jacking-the-vehicle) Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
2. Remove the intermediate shaft from the steering gear stub shaft. Refer to «Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/ignition-switchsteering-lock/#steering-wheel-steering-column) in Power Steering.
3. Install a utility stand to the rear of the frame.
4. Remove the rear frame bolts.
5. Lower the rear of the frame.
6. Remove the upper and lower insulators from the rear of the frame as a set.

1. Apply a thin coat of rubber lubricant GM P/N 1051717, Canadian P/N 5728223, to inside surface of lower insulator and to top surface of upper insulator.
2. Install the upper and lower insulators to the rear of the frame as a set.
3. Raise the rear of the frame.
4. Install the rear frame bolts. Tighten: Tighten the rear frame bolts to 240 N.m (177 lb ft).
5. Remove the utility stand.
6. Install the intermediate shaft to the steering gear stub shaft. Refer to «Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/ignition-switchsteering-lock/#steering-wheel-steering-column) in Power Steering.
7. Lower the vehicle.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/hoistjack/#general-information__lifting-and-jacking-the-vehicle) in General Information.
2. Remove the rear fascia. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Aztek)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) or «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Rendezvous)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) in Bumpers.
3. Remove the rear energy absorber. Refer to «Energy Absorber Replacement - Rear (Aztek)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) or «Energy Absorber Replacement - Rear (Rendezvous)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) in Bumpers.
4. Remove the rear impact bar. Refer to «Impact Bar Replacement - Rear Bumper»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) in Bumpers.
5. Remove the trailer hitch assembly.

1. Install the trailer hitch to the vehicle.
2. Install bolts to frame rail. Tighten: Tighten to 101 N.m (75 lb ft)
3. Install the rear impact bar. Refer to «Impact Bar Replacement - Rear Bumper»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) in Bumpers.
4. Install the rear energy absorbers. Refer to «Energy Absorber Replacement - Rear (Aztek)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) or «Energy Absorber Replacement - Rear (Rendezvous)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) in Bumpers.
5. Install the rear fascia. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Aztek)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) or «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Rendezvous)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) in Bumpers.
6. Lower the vehicle.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to «Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LA1)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/charging-system/#battery-charging-system-and-starting-system) or «Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LY7)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/charging-system/#battery-charging-system-and-starting-system) in Engine Electrical.
2. Remove the carpet from the trunk area. Refer to «Carpet Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim) in Interior Trim.
3. Remove the following components as needed: The sealers The sound deadening materials The corrosion materials
4. Remove the rear suspension support bolt.
5. Place a center punch through the damaged rear suspension support nut. Strike the center punch using a hammer. The punch will leave a dimple on the floor. Use the dimple in order to locate the area where the frame crossmember nut will be removed.
6. Use a cutoff wheel in order to cut an access panel.
7. Lift the panel upward in order to gain access to the frame crossmember nut retainer.
8. Use an air chisel in order to break away the spot welds (1) on one side of the frame crossmember nut retainer (3).
9. Lift one side of the frame crossmember nut retainer enough in order to remove the frame crossmember nut.
10. Remove the rear suspension support nut (2).

1. Install the rear suspension support nut (2).
2. Lower the frame crossmember nut retainer into place. Ensure that the following conditions exist: The frame crossmember nut is correctly positioned. The frame crossmember nut operates correctly.
3. Spot weld the frame crossmember nut retainer in the original location.
4. Clean and prepare the welded surfaces.
5. Apply corrosion protection. Refer to «Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/paintcoatings/#paint-coatings__anti-corrosion-treatment-and-repair) in Paints and Coatings.
6. Install the new rear suspension support bolt to the frame crossmember nut. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 130 N.m (96 lb ft).
7. Reposition the panel downward to the original position.
8. Stitch weld the panel back to the original position using 25 mm (0.98 in) welds along the seam. Leave 25 mm (0.98 in) gaps between the welds. A solid joint with minimal heat distortion will result. Continue to finish the stitch weld procedure.
9. Use a small grinder in order to remove the excess material from the floor panel until the following conditions exist: The floor panel is smooth. The floor panel is free from rough edges.
10. Clean and prepare the welded surfaces.
11. Apply corrosion protection. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair in General Information.
12. Apply Primer and let the primer dry for approximately 30 minutes. Then apply Dominion Sure Seal P/N 110900 Sound Deadener or the equivalent to the repair area.
13. Install the carpet and the pad over the repair area Refer to «Carpet Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim) in Interior Trim.
14. Apply anti-corrosion compound GM P/N 12346225 or equivalent. Thoroughly coat the inside of the repair area through the access hole.
15. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to «Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LA1)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/charging-system/#battery-charging-system-and-starting-system) or «Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LY7)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/charging-system/#battery-charging-system-and-starting-system) in Engine Electrical.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to «SIR Disabling and Enabling Zones»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system__sir-disabling-and-enabling-zones) in SIR.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to «Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LA1)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/charging-system/#battery-charging-system-and-starting-system) or «Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LY7)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/charging-system/#battery-charging-system-and-starting-system) in Engine Electrical.
3. Remove all related panels and components.
4. Note the location and remove the sealers and anti-corrosion materials from the repair area, as necessary. Refer to «Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/paintcoatings/#paint-coatings__anti-corrosion-treatment-and-repair) in Paint and Coatings.
5. Perform the necessary procedures to gain access to repair. Refer to «Carpet Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim) in Interior Trim.
6. Mark cut the location for access to the cage nut.
7. Cut the floor panel.
8. Remove the floor panel, accessing the cage nut.
9. Using a flat-bladed tool, pry open the cage nut retainer just enough to remove the cage nut.
10. Remove the damaged cage nut from the retainer.

1. Install the new cage nut.
2. Close the cage nut retainer onto the new cage nut.
3. Grind both mating surfaces.
4. Apply a 3-6 mm (1/8-1/4 in) bead of metal panel bonding adhesive GM P/N 12378566/7 (Canadian P/N 88901674/5) or equivalent to both of the mating surfaces.
5. Using a small acid brush, spread a coat of adhesive to cover all the bare metal surfaces. This will ensure corrosion protection.
6. Install the floor panel to the body.
7. Apply a 3-6 mm (1/8-1/4 in) bead of metal panel bonding adhesive GM P/N 12378566/7 (Canadian P/N 88901674/5) or equivalent to both of the mating surfaces.
8. Using a small acid brush, spread a coat of adhesive to cover all the bare metal surfaces. This will ensure corrosion protection.
9. Using lacquer thinner, remove the excess adhesive from the lower quarter panel area.
10. Apply the sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area, as necessary. Refer to «Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/paintcoatings/#paint-coatings__anti-corrosion-treatment-and-repair) in Paint and Coatings.
11. Paint the repair area. Refer to «Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/paintcoatings/#paint-coatings__basecoatclearcoat-paint-systems) in Paint and Coatings.
12. Complete the necessary procedures. Refer to «Carpet Replacement»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim) in Interior Trim.
13. Enable the SIR system. Refer to «SIR Disabling and Enabling Zones»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system__sir-disabling-and-enabling-zones) in SIR.
14. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to «Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LA1)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/charging-system/#battery-charging-system-and-starting-system) or «Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LY7)»(/buick/rendezvous/i-2001-2007/remont/charging-system/#battery-charging-system-and-starting-system) in Engine Electrical.
