Removal Procedure

  1. CONTROL MODULE DTC CHECK - Using a scan tool, perform the Vehicle DTC Information function-Verify there are no current control module DTCs set. If any DTC is set, refer to «Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle»(ref-621960-S33076509982014061000000) .
  2. Inspect the forward range radar module (4) for vertical alignment. Refer to «Forward Range Radar Module Alignment»(ref-622020-S31695715772014061000000) .
  3. Check the 3 ball sockets (5) for fixed seating. If the ball sockets are damaged replace the ball sockets.
  4. Inspect all studs (1) for proper seat. If damaged, replace the bracket. Refer to «Forward Range Radar Module Replacement»(ref-622020-S10351631712014061000000) .
  5. Inspect the forward range radar module bracket (2) for paint cracks and deformations. Do NOT repair any cracks or misalignments. If damaged, replace the bracket. Refer to «Forward Range Radar Module Replacement»(ref-622020-S10351631712014061000000) .
  6. Inspect the wiring harness plug (3) and the terminal of the forward range radar module for any damage.

  1. Remove the rear fascia or rear bumper impact bar. Refer to «Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement»(ref-621967-S24262030062014061000000) , «Rear Bumper Impact Bar Replacement»(ref-621967-S39353284602014061000000) .
  2. Disconnect the sensor harness.
  3. Remove the sensor from the sensor housing. The sensor bracket must be painted if replaced. If reinstalled, painting will not be necessary.
  4. Sand/grind sonic weld plastic residue from the fascia.
  5. Apply structural adhesive epoxy, Lord Fusor™ 127EZ or equivalent, to fascia at mating surface.
  6. Using the alignment tabs, install the sensor housing to the fascia.
  7. Allow adhesive to cure according to manufacturer's directions.
  8. Install the sensor to the sensor bracket.
  9. Connect the electrical harness.
  10. Install the rear fascia. Refer to «Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement»(ref-621967-S24262030062014061000000) .

The housings are adhesively retained to the backside of the fascia and must be removed prior to paint refinish operations every time the fascia is refinished due to paint bridging concerns. Adhesive tape cannot be removed and re-used with retention confidence. Thus the rear object sensor housing is considered a onetime use application, requiring that all 4 housings be replaced every time the fascia is refinished.

  1. Remove the rear fascia. Refer to «Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement»(ref-621967-S24262030062014061000000) .
  2. Remove the rear object sensor. Refer to «Rear Parking Assist Alarm Sensor Replacement»(ref-622020-S28110269162014061000000) .
  3. Remove the sensor housing (1) from the fascia.
  4. Remove all remaining adhesive.

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean the sensor housing mating surface of the fascia with a lint-free rag using a naptha solvent or equivalent.
  2. Mating surface must be dry before applying adhesion promoter.
  3. Apply adhesion promoter 3M Products P/N 06396 or equivalent to the sensor housing mating surface (1) of the fascia.
  4. Remove the protective paper backing from the sensor housing.
  5. Position the sensor housing (1) to the fascia.
  6. Press firmly to secure the sensor housing to the fascia.
  7. Install the rear object sensor. Refer to «Rear Parking Assist Alarm Sensor Replacement»(ref-622020-S28110269162014061000000) .
  8. Install the rear fascia. Refer to «Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement»(ref-621967-S24262030062014061000000) .
