Engine Oil Pan Removal Buick Electra VI

TROUBLE SHOOTING

Note. To trouble shoot engine mechanical components, see appropriate table in TROUBLE SHOOTING article in GENERAL INFORMATION.

2.0L (122") VIN K OR M 4-CYLINDER

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove right front wheel and front splash shield. Position jack stands at jack points.
2. Drain crankcase. Remove exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold or waste gate. Remove 4 flywheel cover bolts. Remove oil pan and bolts.

2.0L (122") VIN 1 4-CYLINDER

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect exhaust pipe shield and remove. Raise and support vehicle. Drain crankcase. Remove A/C brace at starter and at A/C bracket.
2. Remove starter bracket at block. Remove starter and lay aside. Remove flywheel cover and A/C brace. Remove 4 right support bolts. Lower support slightly to gain clearnance for oil pan removal. Remove oil filler and extension on automatic transaxles. Remove oil pan bolts and oil pan.

2.5L (151") 4-CYLINDER

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Drain crankcase. Remove front engine mount nuts. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold and at converter. Remove starter and flywheel access cover.
2. Remove splash shield, power steering pump and bracket. Install Engine Support Fixture (J-28467), and raise engine. Remove power steering pump and bracket (if equipped). Remove engine strut. Remove lower alternator and engine supoort brackets. Remove oil pan bolts and oil pan.

2.8L (173") V6

Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Drain crankcase. Remove flywheel access cover and starter. Support engine and remove engine mount bolts. Remove oil pan bolts. Raise engine and remove oil pan.

Century Models

Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Drain crankcase and remove flywheel access cover. Remove oil pan bolts and oil pan.

Electra, LeSabre, Regal, & Skylark Models

Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Drain crankcase. Remove flywheel access cover and crossover pipe. Disconnect engine mounts. Raise and support engine. Remove oil pan bolts and oil pan.

Riviera Models

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove upper final drive bolt and support engine. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect idler arm at frame.
2. Lock steering against left-turn stop. Remove final drive unit, splash shield, starter and flywheel access cover. Drain crankcase, remove oil pan bolts and oil pan.

All Models Exc. Riviera

1. Disconnect negative battery cable and oil dipstick. Remove fan shroud screws. Raise and support vehicle. Drain crankcase and remove flywheel access cover. Disconnect exhaust and crossover pipes.
2. Remove starter and disconnect engine mounts at cylinder block. Install Engine Support Fixture (BT-6501) with Adapters (BT-7109 & BT-7203). (Scheme 14) Raise engine and remove pan bolts and oil pan.

Riviera

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove top and 2 left final drive-to-transmission bolts. Raise and support vehicle. Remove both front wheels. Using Puller (J-24319-1), disconnect relay rod.
2. Disconnect drive axles from output shafts. Remove battery cable bracket. Install Engine Support Fixture (BT-6501). Disconnect right output shaft support. Remove remaining final drive bolts.
3. Remove splash shield and deflector. Remove final drive upper support bracket bolts. Disconnnect steering damper at bracket. Position relay rod forward. Position pitman arm to left.
4. Place drain pan under transmission and jack under final drive. Remove final drive with right output shaft. Remove starter and drain crankcase. Remove oil pan bolts and remove pan.
