ATC 400 X-DRIVE TRANSFER CASE

Note. Numbers in text refer to numbers in figures.

Note. After completing work, check gear oil level and top up if necessary. Tighten filler plug as necessary. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Fill gear oil level up to filler edge of filler plug (1). Use only the approved gear oil. See TRANSFER CASE - SERVICING article.

Remove complete exhaust system. Remove heat shield. Unfasten screws. Remove front propeller shaft at output flange of transfer box and tie to one side. (Scheme 1)

Remove propeller shaft from transmission. Release center bearing. Tie propeller shaft to one side.

On automatic transmission, support transmission with special tools (00 2 030/24 5 301/24 5 305). On manual transmission, support manual transmission with hydraulic lifter. (Scheme 2)

Unfasten screws and remove transmission crossmember. (Scheme 3)

Detach plugs (1) and (2) from servomotor. (Scheme 4)

Scheme 4

Release screw connection of transfer box. Remove transfer box. During installation, pay attention to dowel pin (1). Grease dowel pin (1). (Scheme 5) Apply a thin coat of grease (Weicon anti-seize) to splines.

TRANSFER CASE REPLACEMENT

Note. Numbers in text refer to numbers in figures.

Note. When replacing the transfer box, it is important to delete the self-adapting wear values (oil, clutch) in the transfer box control unit. After completing work, check gear oil level and top up if necessary. After completing work, check gear oil level, top up as necessary, and tighten plug. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure gear oil level is to lower edge of filler plug (1). Use only the approved gear oil. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the transfer box.

Installation Of Replacement Transfer Case

Drain oil at oil drain plug (2). (Scheme 6)

Remove transfer box. See TRANSFER CASE (ATC 400 X-DRIVE) .

Swap the following parts from previous transfer case to new transfer case

1. Covers & Protective Caps
2. Drive Shaft Transportation Lock
3. Vent Hose Of Transfer Box
4. Vibration Damper
5. Rubber Mount For Transfer Case Mounting
