Headlamp Beam Adjustment Motors, Removing and Installing

Removing

1. With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (GND) wire --> «Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting»(ref-289227-S36384413212008062700000) .

1. Loosen locking bolt - 1 - a few turns.
2. Remove appropriate front wheel.
3. Remove appropriate front wheel housing liner --> «66 - EXTERIOR EQUIPMENT»(ref-289221-S23584739002008062700000) .
4. Release retainer tabs - arrows - and detach low beam housing cover from headlamp housing.

Scheme 6

1. Remove screws - arrows -.
2. By swivelling control motor - 1 - , push ball end of positioning stem downwards out of socket.
3. Disconnect electrical connector - 2 -.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

1. Start by inserting ball end of positioning stem from underneath in reflector socket. To do so, pull reflector to rear.

Note. Always adjust headlamps after removing, installing or replacing adjustment motors --> 01 - MAINTENANCE .

1. Close housing cover and secure with screw.
2. Install front wheel housing liner --> «66 - EXTERIOR EQUIPMENT»(ref-289221-S23584739002008062700000) .
3. Connect battery. Required actions --> «Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting»(ref-289227-S36384413212008062700000) .

Tightening torque

Steering Column Adjustment Switch, Removing and Installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

1. T8 screwdriver T40056 A

Removing

1. Remove drivers storage compartment --> «68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT»(ref-289222-S37995085722008062700000) .
2. Adjust steering wheel downward and to rear as far as possible, use entire adjustment range of steering column adjustment for this.

Scheme 7

1. Remove bolts - 3 - and - 4 - using T8 screwdriver T40056 A.
2. Remove TORX bolt - 5 -.
3. Disconnect upper trim - 2 - for steering column switch from lower trim - 1 - and remove both sections.
4. Disconnect electrical harness connector at lower trim.

Note. Steering wheel has been removed in illustration.

Scheme 8

1. Remove screws - arrows -.
2. Remove Steering Column Adjustment Switch E167 - item 1 - upward from bottom trim.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

1. Install drivers storage compartment --> «68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT»(ref-289222-S37995085722008062700000) .

Tightening Specifications

Mirror Adjustment Switch, Removing and Installing

Removing

1. Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
2. Remove front door trim --> «70 - INTERIOR TRIM»(ref-289222-S30170627502008062700000) .
3. Detach insulating mat from door trim.

Scheme 9

1. Remove bolts - arrows - and detach armrest.

Scheme 10

1. Remove bolt - arrow - and detach switch mount - 1 - from armrest.

Scheme 11

1. Remove bolts - arrows - and detach switch mount with mirror adjustment switch.

Scheme 12

1. Disconnect electrical connector - 1 -.
2. Carefully release catches - arrows - using a small screwdriver.
3. Pull Mirror Adjustment Switch E43 - item 2 - down out of switch mount.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Note. When installing, make sure that symbol panel is inserted in front of mirror adjustment switch.

1. Press switch into switch mount until fasteners engage.
2. Install front door trim --> «70 - INTERIOR TRIM»(ref-289222-S30170627502008062700000) .

Front Passenger Seat Adjustment Switch, Removing and Installing

Removing

Scheme 13

1. Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
2. Remove rear door trim --> «70 - INTERIOR TRIM»(ref-289222-S30170627502008062700000) .
3. Detach insulating mat from door trim.
4. Remove bolts - arrows - and remove speaker trim.

Scheme 14

1. Disconnect electrical connector - 1 -.
2. Remove bolts - arrows - and detach small cover panel and storage compartment from door trim.

Scheme 15

1. Use Allen wrench to remove pin - 1 - for actuating storage compartment catch.
2. Repeat procedure on other side of storage compartment.
3. Open storage compartment.

Scheme 16

1. Remove switch cover panel - 1 - - arrow -.

Scheme 17

1. Release adjustable front passengers seat switch at top and bottom and press to rear out of switch mount in storage compartment - arrow -.
2. Disconnect electrical connector - 1 -.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

1. Press switch into switch mount until fasteners engage.
2. Install rear door trim --> «70 - INTERIOR TRIM»(ref-289222-S30170627502008062700000) .

Lane Change Assistance Control Modules, Calibrating

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Scheme 18

1. Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System VAS 5051B with diagnostic cable VAS 5051/5 A
2. Calibration Device VAS 6350

Requirements

1. Place vehicle on a solid, level surface.
2. Activate parking brake - vehicle must not move during measurement.
3. Place front wheels in straight-ahead position - steering wheel in 0 position.
4. Remove sticker with metal foil from bumper cover if necessary.

Procedure

Scheme 19

1. Connect Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051B with Diagnostic Cable VAS 5051/5 A.

Note. If a malfunction indication is displayed refer to Operating instructions of VAS 5051B.

1. Switch on ignition.

Scheme 20

1. Secure three SW 19 wheel bolt adapters for wheel bolts on each Wheel Center Sensor VAS 6350/1.
2. Insert measuring paddle on both wheel center sensors VAS 6350/1 and secure with lock nut.
3. Place Wheel Center Sensor VAS 6350/1 on wheel bolts on both rear wheels.

1. Wheel center sensor rotation center must be in wheel rotation center.

Note. Place Wheel Center Sensor VAS 6350/1 on wheels so that "anti-theft wheel bolts" are not connected with wheel center sensor.

1. Adjust measuring paddle with aid of lock nuts so that they move freely just above the floor.

1. The measuring paddles must move easily.
2. The measuring paddles must be vertical.

Scheme 21

1. Position Calibration Device VAS 6350 at distance - a - from rear wheels.

1. Dimension - a - = 1,700 mm

1. Switch distance laser VAS 6350/2 on with ON button.

Note. Laser is switched on at same time.

Scheme 23

1. For distance measurement, hold distance laser VAS 6350/2 - item 2 - flush to catch bracket as shown in illustration.

1. The distance laser VAS 6350/2 lie firmly against catch bracket.

1. Ensure "laser beam" for distance measurement hits the lower enlarged portion of the measuring paddle - 1 -.

If this is not the case, measure paddle height must be corrected using lock nuts on Wheel Center Sensor VAS 6350/1.

Scheme 24

1. Briefly press ON button for distance measurement.

Display on VAS 6350/2

1. "1.700 m" (specified value: 1700 2 mm).

1. Repeat the measurement procedure from the right catch bracket to the right rear wheel.

1. The distance value must be the same on both sides.

If both measured values are not the same, adjust Calibration Device VAS 6350 accordingly.

Scheme 25

1. Secure lane change assistance calibration device VAS 6350/4 at left rear of Calibration Device VAS 6350 mount.

1. When installed correctly, vehicle electrical system voltage line must be connected at bottom left of calibration device (as seen in direction of travel).
2. Dimension - a - = 800 mm (measured from upper edge of calibration device to floor).

1. The indicator on the base of the lane change assistance calibration device VAS 6350/4 must align with setting on measurement scale - 1 - on measuring field - arrow -.

1. Left setting = 679 mm (read on measurement scale - 1 - ).

1. Connect lane change assistance calibration device VAS 6350/4 to vehicle electrical system voltage.

Scheme 26

1. Bring Calibration Device VAS 6350 into horizontal position by turning plastic base.

1. Observe bubble level (sight glass) on Calibration Device VAS 6350 - arrow -.

Scheme 27

1. Switch Line Laser VAS 6350/3 on Calibration Device VAS 6350 on.
2. Put on "Laser eye protection".
3. Align the calibration device VAS 6350 so the line laser VAS 6350/3 strikes the center of the brand emblem on the rear lid.

1. Check left and right distance between catch bracket on Calibration Device VAS 6350 and measuring paddle - 1 - on wheel sensors again.

1. Specified value: 1700 2 mm

Calibration procedure

The following should not occur during the calibration procedure

1. Vehicle doors must not be opened or closed.
2. People should not sit in the vehicle.
3. People should not go between the vehicle and the lane change assistance calibration device VAS 6350/4.

Procedure

Scheme 28

1. Switch lane change assistance calibration device VAS 6350/4 on at power switch - 3 -.

1. The green LED - 1 - must light up.

Note. If the red LED - 2 - lights up: Check lane change assistance calibration device VAS 6350/4.

1. Select the function or path

1. Follow further instructions on display of VAS 5051B.

Scheme 29

During the course of the program, a request is made to switch the lane change assistance calibration device VAS 6350/4 from the left to the right side of the Calibration Device VAS 6350.

1. Switch lane change assistance calibration device VAS 6350/4 off and move device.

1. When installed correctly, vehicle electrical system voltage line must be connected at bottom left of calibration device (as seen in direction of travel).
2. Dimension - a - = 800 mm (measured from upper edge of calibration device to floor).
3. Right setting = 679 mm (read on measurement scale - 1 - ).

1. Switch lane change assistance calibration device VAS 6350/4 on at power switch - 3 -.

1. The green LED - 1 - must light up.

1. Follow further instructions on display of VAS 5051B.

After successfully calibrating lane change assistance

Scheme 30

1. Tap button Sprung.
2. Select function "Exit".

1. After this display appears, switch ignition off and disconnect diagnostic connector.
