A/C compressor, removing and installing

  1. Discharge A/C refrigerant system. See «A/C REFRIGERANT SYSTEM (R-134A), DISCHARGING»(/audi/s8/d2-2-2002-2003/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#air-conditioning__ac-refrigerant-system-r-134a-discharging) .
  2. Remove compressor from mounting bracket. See «A/C COMPRESSOR FROM MOUNTING BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING»(/audi/s8/d2-2-2002-2003/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#air-conditioning__ac-compressor-from-mounting-bracket-removing) .
  3. Disconnect refrigerant lines from the compressor (tightening torques and O-rings. See «A/C REFRIGERANT SYSTEM (R-134A), COMPONENTS»(/audi/s8/d2-2-2002-2003/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#air-conditioning__ac-refrigerant-system-r-134a-components) .
CAUTIONMark travel direction of ribbed belt before removing. Reversing direction could cause belt to fail. If a new compressor is installed, or if system has just been recharged, manually turn the A/C compressor 10 rotations before operating the system to prevent compressor damage.

Note. If a compressor is to be shipped for quality monitoring, connections should be sealed with caps. Replace compressor. See A/C REFRIGERANT SYSTEM (R-134A), REPLACING COMPONENTS . When first operating compressor, start engine with compressor switched off ("OFF" mode). Wait until the idle speed has stabilized before switching the compressor on and then run at idle for at least 10 minutes. Removing and installing ribbed V-belt. See RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
