Windshield, removing

Preparatory steps

  1. Remove windshield wiper arms. --> «92 - WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SYSTEM»(/audi/s6/c6-2006-2008/remont/cruise-control-systems/#electrical-equipment)
  2. Remove cowl panel trim.
  3. Pull left and right water deflectors out from retaining strips (from bottom upward).
  4. Remove trim on top of A-pillars. --> «70 - INTERIOR TRIM»(/audi/s6/c6-2006-2008/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#body-interior)
  1. Remove left, middle and right sun visors. --> «70 - INTERIOR TRIM»(/audi/s6/c6-2006-2008/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#body-interior)
  2. Remove interior mirror. --> «68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT»(/audi/s6/c6-2006-2008/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#body-interior)

Note. This must be removed on vehicles with light/rain sensor. Disconnect all electrical wires to sensors and rearview mirror or to window heater. Use awl to pierce through adhesive sealing material on lower left of window from inside to outside.

  1. Pull cutting cord through adhesive sealing material into inside of vehicle using awl.

  1. Lay cutting cord underneath and all around inside of windshield.

  1. Secure end of cutting cord to windshield wiper arm securing screw.
  2. Insert protective foil V.A.G 1474/13 between windshield and instrument panel.
  1. Secure beginning of cutting cord in spooling tool and cut out first area of adhesive (up to about center of windshield).

  1. Move spooling tool as shown, and continue to cut out adhesive sealing material.

  1. Move spooling tool as shown and attach relay pulley.
  2. Route cord as shown.
  3. Cut window free until cutting cord is no longer fed through idler pulley.

  1. Remove idler pulley and continue cutting window free.

  1. Replace spool as shown and position idler puller in upper part of window.
  2. Route cord as shown.
  3. Insert protective foil V.A.G 1474/11 between windshield and molded headliner.
  4. Cut window free until cutting cable is no longer fed through idler pulley.
  1. Remove idler pulley and continue cutting window free.

  1. Repeat procedure in upper and lower left parts of windshield.
  2. Cut glass completely free in this manner.
  3. Remove windshield from windshield opening using suctioned lifter.
