ROOF TRIM STRIP ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW

Note. Note different versions. The roof trim strips are not riveted to the body and must be unclipped from underneath for removing. Do not twist or bend high gloss trim strips To remove roof trim molding, it is not necessary to remove the side window.

Scheme 1: ROOF TRIM STRIP ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW
  1. Roof Trim Molding Standard roof trim strip: -- Unclip the roof trim molding from the top of the vehicle body starting at the C-pillar. High gloss roof trim strip: -- Pull the lower trim strip out of the clips on the C-pillar beginning on the side. -- Carefully pry the top roof trim strip out of the clips on the D-pillar and side window and unclip it from the body flange. -- Beginning at the A-pillar, unclip the roof trim strip from the body moving downward.

Scheme 2: LONGITUDINAL MEMBER SEAL ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW
  1. Longitudinal Panel
  2. Longitudinal Member Seal To remove, pull the seal out of the clips and off the longitudinal member. The clips must be removed from the longitudinal member. If the same seal is being installed again, then the clips must be inserted into the seal first. Install the seal starting at the front and push it onto the body flange on the wheel housing. Push it in under the side window seal on the C-pillar and attach it to the side panel.

Scheme 4: FRONT WHEEL SPOILER ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW
  1. Clamping Pin
  2. Front Noise Insulation
  3. Spring Nut Slide onto the noise insulation.
  4. Wheel Spoiler -- Remove the bolts in the wheel housing liner in the spoiler area. -- Press the wheel housing liner to the side in the spoiler area and loosen the locking pins. -- Remove the wheel spoiler under the wheel housing liner.

Scheme 5: ROOF SPOILER ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW
  1. Roof Spoiler Removing -- Remove the rear lid trim. Refer to «Removal and Installation»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim) -- Disconnect the antenna and brake lamp connectors. -- Remove the antenna amplifier. -- Remove the screws and nuts and then remove the roof spoiler from the rear lid.

Scheme 6: FRONT NOISE INSULATION ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW
  1. Noise Insulation Removing Front wheel spoiler removed. Refer to «FRONT WHEEL SPOILER ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment) -- Remove the screws -1- and -2-, as well as the lower wheel housing screws (3 on each side), and remove the noise insulation under the bumper. When installing, slide the front noise insulation in under the bumper.

  5. Quick-Release Fastener Rotate 180° to the left to remove. When installing, the connection must engage when rotating.

Vehicles with Auxiliary Heater

On vehicles with an auxiliary heater, make sure the exhaust pipe is installed correctly inside the noise insulation.

Scheme 8: REAR NOISE INSULATION ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW
  1. Rear Noise Insulation Loosen the 3 rear quick-release fasteners on the noise insulation. Loosen the quick-release fasteners -6- and remove the noise insulation toward the rear.
  2. Cross brace
  3. Spring nut Slide sideways into the transmission cross member.
  4. Window
  5. Quick-Release Fastener Rotate 180° to the left to remove. When installing, the connection must engage when rotating.
  6. Spring Nut Slide into the cross brace.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Door Insulation Foil Application Roller 3356
CAUTIONThe adhesive surfaces on the body must be free of dirt and grease. Clean the adhesive surfaces using cleaning solution D 009 401 04. Warm the adhesive areas to approximately 104 °F (40 °C) using a heat gun. After installing, take the roller and press the brand emblem one more time.

Rear Lid

Press the emblem firmly onto the body according to the dimensions.

  1. Dimension -a- = 18 mm
  2. Dimension -b- = 176 mm
  3. Dimension -c- = 540 mm.
  4. Dimension -d- = 190 mm
  5. Dimension -e- = 4 mm
  6. Dimension -f- is not for North American market.

Scheme 16: FRONT DOOR B-PILLAR TRIM
  1. B-Pillar Trim -- Lower the door window. -- Disengage the window guide near the B-pillar from the trim and remove it. -- Remove the screws -4- and remove the trim from the door. -- When installing the window guide into the trim, coat the guide with a soapy solution.

Scheme 17: REAR DOOR B-PILLAR TRIM
  1. B-Pillar Trim -- Remove the door window. Refer to «REAR DOOR WINDOW»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/windows/#glass-window-regulators) . -- Remove the C-pillar trim. -- Disengage the window guide near the B-pillar from the trim and remove it. -- Remove the screws -4- and remove the trim from the door. -- When installing the window guide into the trim, coat the guide with a soapy solution.

B-Pillar seal

B-pillar trim removed.

To install, push the seal -1- in, peel off the protective film and press firmly onto the door frame -2-.

Scheme 19: REAR DOOR C-PILLAR TRIM

Window frame trim removed. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the screw and push the trim down, then remove it from the window guide.

Remove the seal -3- between the window shaft strip and the door.

OUTER DOOR SILL MOLDING

Note. The protective molding is secured to the sidemember using adhesive strips. Removal cannot be done without destroying.

Scheme 20: OUTER DOOR SILL MOLDING
  1. Door Seal
  2. Rear Sill Panel Trim Removing -- Heat the door sill molding using a heat gun and pull the molding upward and off. Installing -- The sidemember must be free of dirt and grease in the adhesive area. -- Warm the sidemember in the adhesive area to approximately 104 °F (40 °C) using a heat gun. -- Remove protective film from adhesive tape. -- Insert the sill panel trim with the centering pins in the side member and press it on firmly in stages from front to back.
  3. Front Sill Panel Trim Removal and installation same as with rear sill panel strip.
  4. Adhesive Tape Pull off protective foil before installing.

DOOR GAP COVERS

CAUTIONThe adhesive surfaces on the body must be free of dirt and grease. Clean the adhesive surfaces using cleaning solution D 009 401 04. Warm the adhesive areas to approximately 104 °F (40 °C) using a heat gun. After installing, take the roller and press the covers one more time.

Unclip the upper door gap cover -1- starting from the back toward the front and then pull it off the door flange.

Clean any remaining adhesive from the door.

Peel off the protective film from the two-sided adhesive tape.

Position the cover on the door flange from underneath, align it so that it centered and then push it into the clips -2-.

Removing and installing is same as on the front door.

WHEEL HOUSING COVERS

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Door Insulation Foil Application Roller 3356
CAUTIONThe adhesive surfaces on the body must be free of dirt and grease. Clean the adhesive surfaces using cleaning solution D 009 401 04. Warm the adhesive areas to approximately 104 °F (40 °C) using a heat gun. After installing, take the roller and press the covers one more time.

Front Wheel Housing Cover

  1. Front Bumper Cover Removing and installing is the same as on the fenders. -- Push the bumper cover onto the fender cover as far as the stop -arrow- (zero gap) and press on it firmly with the roller 3356.
  2. Fender Cover Removing -- Warm the cover with a heat gun and remove it. Installing -- The fender must be free of dirt and grease in the adhesive area. -- Warm the fender in the adhesive area to approximately 104 °F (40 °C) using a heat gun. -- Peel off the protective film from adhesive tape. -- Position the cover upward making sure it fits exactly to the contour of the fender and then press on it lightly. -- Peel off the protective film from the adhesive tape and press on the cover. -- Press the cover firmly and evenly over the entire surface with the roller 3356.
  3. Adhesive Tape When installing, peel off the protective film sideways from the adhesive tape.

Rear Wheel Housing Cover

  1. Rear Door Cover Removing and installing is the same as on the side panel. -- Position the rear door cover to the side panel cover at distance -a-, and push on it with the roller 3356. Dimension -a- = 3.5 mm.
  2. Side Panel Cover Removing -- Warm the cover with a heat gun and remove it. Installing -- The side panel must be free of dirt and grease in the adhesive area. -- Warm the sidemember in the adhesive area to approximately 104 °F (40 °C) using a heat gun. -- Peel off the protective film from adhesive tape. -- Position the cover upward making sure it fits exactly to the contour on the side panel and then press on it lightly. -- Peel off the protective film from the adhesive tape and press on the cover. -- Press the cover firmly and evenly over the entire surface with the roller 3356.
  3. Rear Bumper Cover Removing and installing is the same as on the side panel. -- Push the bumper cover onto the side panel cover as far as the stop -arrow- (zero gap) and press it on firmly with the roller 3356.
  4. Adhesive Tape

ROOF RAIL

CAUTIONIf being reused, install the nuts and screws with locking compound.

  1. Roof Rail Removing -- Lower the headliner. Refer to «Removal and Installation»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim) . NOTE: The roof rack recognition sensor -G625- is located only in the left roof railing. -- Disconnect the roof rack recognition sensor connector. -- Remove the nuts and screws and remove the roof railing. Installing -- Adjusting elements must be pushed into the roof and be in the installation position with slight pretension. -- Place railing on roof and threaded pins through adjusting elements. Follow the installation sequence: -- First tighten the screws and then the nuts to the tightening specification.
  2. Threaded Pin Pushed into the roof railing at the front and back
  3. Nut Replacing, install the new nut with locking compound -D 000 600 A2-. 10 Nm
  4. Roof
  5. Adjusting Element Insert the front adjusting element and both rear adjusting elements into the holes and slide them forward into their installation position. Insert the remaining adjusting element (2nd element as seen from the front) into the hole and slide it toward the rear into its installation position. Position the adjusting elements so that it makes contact, with light pretension of 0.3 Nm.
  6. Bolt Replacing, clean any remaining locking compound form the threaded hole with a thread cutter. 10 Nm

Roof Rack Recognition Sensor

The roof rack recognition sensor -2- is installed only in the left roof railing and cannot be replaced individually.

EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR GLASS

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Pry Lever 80 - 200
  2. Protective Gloves

Removing

Protect the upper and lower corners of the housing with tape to prevent paint damage.

Press the mirror glass -1- up and down from the mirror adjusting unit using the pry lever 80 - 200 -arrow-.

WARNINGWear protective gloves.

Disconnect the -1- heated mirror electrical connectors on the back of the mirror glass -2-.

Unclip the connector from the bracket, if applicable.

Installation

Position the mirror glass on the mirror adjusting unit and press it on.

Press the wires into the clips -3-.

Note. Only press in the center of the mirror when pressing the mirror glass on.

  1. Exterior Rearview Mirror Housing Removal: -- Mirror glass removed. Refer to «EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR GLASS»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment__exterior-rearview-mirror-glass) . -- Remove the bolts -2-. -- From the inside, remove the housing upward at the lower front edge. Refer to «REMOVING HOUSING»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment) . -- Remove the housing upward and out of the guides for the adjusting unit mount. Refer to «INSTALLING»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment__installing) . -- Disconnect the turn signal connector. -- Remove the housing.
  2. Lane Change Assistance Warning Lamp Removal and Installation, refer to «[For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches)
  3. Bolt 1 Nm

Scheme 30: REMOVING HOUSING

From the inside, push the housing -1- on the front lower edge upward and against the bottom of the adjusting unit mount and then pull it off the retaining hooks -arrows-.

INSTALLING

When the installing, the guides must be pushed correctly into the brackets -arrows b- so that the retaining hooks -arrows a- can engage.

The front edge of the housing must engage with the bottom of the bracket.

  1. Tightening specification, refer to «EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment) .

Install the mirror glass.

MIRROR ADJUSTING UNIT MOUNT

Removing

Remove the door trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the speaker trim and the treble speaker bracket. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Scheme 32: MIRROR ADJUSTING UNIT MOUNT

Disconnect the connectors -4- and -5-.

Pry the grommet -2- out of the rearview mirror seal.

Remove the retaining studs from the door in the exterior rearview mirror area.

Remove the bolts -3-.

Remove the mirror adjusting unit mount -1- while guiding the wiring harness out through the body opening.

Installation

  1. Tightening specifications, refer to «EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment) .

Install the exterior rearview mirror seal.

Install the treble speaker bracket and speaker trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Install the door trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

MIRROR ADJUSTING UNIT

Removing

Remove mirror glass. Refer to EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR GLASS .

Remove the screw -2- from the mirror adjusting unit -1-.

Disconnect the connector -2- on the mirror adjusting unit -1-.

Installation

  1. Tightening specifications, refer to «EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment) .

Press the mirror adjusting unit onto the mirror mount until it engages audibly.

Scheme 35: RADIATOR GRILLE
  1. Radiator Grille -- To remove, remove the left and right screws on the radiator grille. -- Disengage the radiator grille at the top and bottom -arrows- and lift it out.
  2. Bumper Cover Removed

Scheme 36: FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER
  1. Wheel Housing Liner Removing -- Driveshaft cover. Refer to «DRIVESHAFT COVER»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment) -- Press in front wheel accordingly. -- Remove the bolts on the lower wheel housing liner. -- Loosen the retainer on the clips, e.g. using a small screwdriver, and slide the clip sideways off the retaining pins. -- Disengage wheel housing liner from fender and pull downward and out. Installation is reverse of removal.
  2. Bolt 2 Nm
  3. Clip Quantity: 7 NOTE: Replace the clips after removing the wheel housing liner.

  1. Rear Wheel Housing Liner Removing -- Rear wheel removed. -- Remove the outer bolts. -- Remove the clips from the retaining pins. -- Remove wheel housing liner downward. Installation is reverse of removal.

  3. Clip Quantity: 7 NOTE: Replace the clips after removing the wheel housing liner.
