Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Ignition Coil Puller T40039

Remove the ignition coils from cylinder bank 1

Only remove the lower section of the air filter housing for cylinder 1 ignition coil. Refer to LOWER AIR FILTER HOUSING .

For cylinder 2 and 3 ignition coils, remove the air guide hose (open the hose clamp -3- and the clips -arrows-).

Scheme 2

Remove bolts from the ignition coil wiring harness.

Release electrical connectors and remove connectors simultaneously from ignition coils.

Remove ignition coils with T40039 from spark plug shaft

Scheme 3

Remove ignition coils from cylinder bank 2

Remove coolant reservoir -arrows-.

Scheme 4

Scheme 4

Disconnect electrical connector to the engine coolant level warning switch -F66- on the bottom of the coolant reservoir and lay the reservoir aside with the coolant hoses -1 and 2- and -3- attached.

Remove bolts -arrows-.

Scheme 5

Pull ignition coils approximately 30 mm out of the spark plug shaft using the T40039.

Release electrical connectors and remove connectors simultaneously from ignition coils.

Installing

Insert all ignition coils loosely into spark plug shaft.

Align the ignition coils to the connectors and then connect all of the connectors simultaneously onto the ignition coils.

Press the ignition coils uniformly onto the spark plugs by hand (do not use an impact tool under any circumstances).

Further installation is performed in reverse order.

Removing

WARNINGFuel system is under high pressure! Before opening high pressure components of the fuel injection system, pressure must be relieved to residual pressure. Refer to BEFORE OPENING HIGH PRESSURE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM . Then wrap a clean rag around the connection and relieve residual pressure by carefully loosening the connection. Observe safety precautions when disconnecting the battery. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove upper section of the intake manifold. Refer to UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD .

Remove each intake manifold section with the fuel rail. Refer to LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD WITH FUEL RAIL .

Note. Remove fuel injector 2 to reach the bolt for the KS 1 -- -4-. Remove fuel injector 2 to reach the bolt for the KS 2 -- -4-.

Remove the screws from each knock sensor.

Installing

Install the removed knock sensor.

Note. Tightening specifications affects function of KS.

  1. Tightening specifications, refer to «IGNITION OVERVIEW»(ref-515429-S02812275052012120300000)

Install lower intake manifold section with the fuel rail. Refer to LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD WITH FUEL RAIL .

Reinstall upper intake manifold. Refer to UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD .
