Note for display group 3

If display zones for engine speed and actual engine torque are to be read out with engine running communication between Scan tool and control module must be terminated with "End output" function, see END OUTPUT . Then start engine and set up diagnostic link between Scan tool and control module again.

  1. Press buttons -0- and -8- for "Read measured value block" function.
  2. Confirm input with -Q- button.
  3. Press buttons -0-, -0- and -3-.

  1. For vehicles for which the On Board Diagnosis (OBD) does not give any indication of the source of the DTC the complete electrical check must be worked through.
  2. In vehicles in which the self- diagnosis provides a direct indication of the source of the DTC only perform the test steps recommended in the DTC table (specific testing).

Scheme 204

Scheme 204: Test requirements
  1. An "Automatic test sequence" must first be performed to establish that any DTCs present in the transmission and Engine Control Module (ECM)s can only originate from the ABS/EDL. Connect up Scan tool V.A.G 1551 and select address word 00 with ignition switched on. See «VAG1551 SCAN TOOL (ST), CONNECTING AND ENTERING ADDRESS WORD»(/audi/a8/d3-2002-2005/remont/warning-system/#on-board-diagnostic-obd-absedlasr__vag1551-scan-tool-st-connecting-and) . After completing the "Electrical check", check and erase the DTC memories of the transmission and Engine Control Module (ECM).
  2. Make sure multiple connector between wiring harness and ABS Control Module (w/EDL) -J104- is in perfect condition, i.e. not bent, broken or corroded terminals. Replace any damaged terminals using wiring repair kit VAS 1978. NOTE: The instructions supplied with wiring repair kit VAS 1978 normally do not permit repairs to the wiring of the ABS and its associated systems. However, this only applies to the screened wiring in the systems.
  3. Switch ignition and electrical consumers off before commencing the check (headlights, lighting, fan, etc.).

The following equipment is required

  1. VAG 1598 Test box
  2. 1598/27 Adapter
  3. VAG 1594 Adapter cable set
  4. VAG 1526 Hand-held multimeter

Connecting test box VAG 1598 with adapter 1598/27

  1. Switch ignition off.
  2. Connect adapter VAG 1598/27 to test box VAG 1598. Disconnect multi-pin connector from ABS Control Module (w/EDL) -J104-. Connect adapter VAG 1598/27 and test box VAG 1598 to connector of ABS/EDL wiring harness.

The socket designations on test box VAG 1598 are identical with the terminal designations on ABS Control Module (w/EDL) -J104- and the designations of the connector on the wiring harness.

Terminal assignment of wiring harness/ABS Control Module (w/EDL) -J104- multiple connector.
