Removing and Installing Audi A8 D3

Exhaust 4 illustrations ~404 words

Note. Align exhaust system to relieve stress. See EXHAUST SYSTEM, ALIGNING TO RELIEVE STRESS . Check exhaust system for leaks. See EXHAUST SYSTEM, CHECKING FOR LEAKS . Separating point between center and rear mufflers, SEPARATING POINT BETWEEN CENTER AND REAR MUFFLERS Always replace gaskets and nuts The mountings for the center and rear mufflers look the same but have a different elasticity. See Parts list Exhaust manifold, removing and installing: see EXHAUST MANIFOLD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING

Scheme 2: Separating point between center and rear mufflers
  1. The cutting point between center an rear mufflers is used to replace parts separately if required.
  2. Cut through connecting pipes between center and rear mufflers at points marked with groove
  3. a = approx. 240 mm (9.5 in.)
  4. b = approx. 200 mm (7,8in.)
  5. Use two short double clamps to connect center to rear mufflers.
  6. Installation position of rear double clamps, see «INSTALLATION POSITION OF REAR DOUBLE CLAMPS»(ref-196867-S29853619162005100900000) .
  7. Bolt ends must not protrude beyond bottom of clamp.
  8. Aligning tailpipes, see «TAILPIPES, ALIGNING»(ref-196867-S27900527952005100900000) .
  9. Aligning rear mufflers, see «TAILPIPES, ALIGNING»(ref-196867-S27900527952005100900000) .
