Electrical testing
- For testing use a Fluke 83 multimeter or equivalent.
- The specified values are valid for an ambient temperature of 10-40° C (50-104° F).
- If measured values deviate from specified values, determine the malfunction using the appropriate wiring diagram.
- If measured values deviate only slightly from specified values, clean the sockets and connectors of the test unit and test leads and repeat the test.
- Before replacing components, check the respective wiring and connectors. Repeat resistance tests when values are below 10°.
- To connect test units, use test box VAG 1598/20.
- The terminal numbers of the connector and the socket numbers of test box VAG 1598/20 must be uniform. See «MULTI-PIN CONNECTOR (88-PIN CONNECTOR) OF TCM -J217- (SOCKET NUMBERS ON VAG 1598/20)»(/audi/a8/d2-1999-2002/remont/automatic-trans/#on-board-diagnostic-obd-5-spd-automatic-transmission-01l-awd__multi-pin-connector-88-pin-connector-of-tcm) .
| CAUTION | In order to avoid interference with electronic components, switch to the correct test range on the multimeter before connecting the test leads. |
- Battery Positive Voltage (B+) OK
- Fuses for Transmission Control Module (TCM) OK
- Fuses for components to be checked OK
- Ground (GND) connections OK
- Check battery GND strap and GND strap between body and transmission.
- Check GND connectors for TCM.
