SIDE SPEAKER TRIM
Note. Be extremely careful when removing and installing because it is easy to damage the speaker trim. Removing and installing is identical for the left and right sides. The illustration shows the right speaker trim.
Scheme 63
Using a small screwdriver, carefully pry the speaker trim -1- out beginning at the corner -arrow-.
Carefully fold the speaker trim upward and remove it.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
First insert the speaker trim in the instrument panel and then press it on until it engages audibly.

Remove the instrument panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL .
Remove the nuts -2 through 4- on the bottom of the instrument panel.
Remove the speaker mounts -1- and -5- upward from the instrument panel.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
Note. When tightening the nuts, make there is an even distance between the upper side of the instrument panel and the upper edge of the speaker vent as well as an even gap all the way around.
Scheme 65
Remove the instrument panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL .
Remove the nuts -2 through 7- on the bottom of the instrument panel.
Remove the top center defroster vent -1- from the instrument panel.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
Note. When tightening the nuts, make sure there is an even distance between the upper side of the instrument panel and the upper edge of the top center defroster vent as well as an even gap all the way around.

Remove the passenger knee airbag. Refer to FRONT PASSENGER KNEE AIRBAG IGNITER -N296 .
Remove the bolts -arrows-.
Remove the left -1- and right -2- glove compartment brackets.
Position both glove compartment brackets so that tab -4- engages in hole -3- in the instrument panel.
Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
Remove the instrument panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL .
Remove the steering column. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Disengage the left instrument panel vent air duct at the instrument panel central tube. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Removal and Installation .
Remove the right instrument panel vent air duct. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Removal and Installation .
Remove the left fuse panel C -SC- and the right fuse panel D -SD- from the instrument panel central tube. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Removal and Installation .
Remove the data bus on board diagnostic interface -J533- and lay it aside. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Removal and Installation .
Remove the bolts -1- on the left and right of the central tube support and remove the bracket -2-.

Remove the left and right bolts -3- for the central tube support.
Remove the A/C unit bolt -1- on the left and right of the central tube support.
Scheme 68
Remove the center defroster vent air duct. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Removal and Installation .
Scheme 69
Remove the A/C unit bolt -1- on the instrument panel central tube top brace.
Remove the bolt -2- on the top brace on the instrument panel central tube.
Remove the ground wire and left ground point on the tunnel wall and free them up.
Disconnect the electrical connectors on the accelerator pedal module and the brake light switch and free them up.
Remove the right lower A-pillar trim. Refer to A-PILLAR LOWER TRIM .
Disconnect the multi-pin electrical connectors from the right coupling station on the A-pillar. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Removal and Installation .
Disconnect the electrical connector on the fresh air blower and free up the wires.
Remove the air intake chamber bracket bolts -1- on the instrument panel central tube.
Scheme 70
Remove the nut -2-.
Remove the bolt -1- and nut -2-.
Scheme 71
Tighten the 2 nuts -2- and -3- on the threaded pin -1- on the driver side A-pillar and remove the threaded pin.
Scheme 72
Note. 2 technicians are needed to remove instrument panel central pipe.
Carefully pull the instrument panel central tube -1- up at the driver side while disengaging it from the A/C unit -3- and the upper -2- and lower -4- stop brackets.
Scheme 73
Remove the instrument panel central tube from the threaded pin on the A-pillar on the front passenger side.
Carefully tilt the top side of the instrument panel central tube back while pulling it up.
Remove the instrument panel central tube from the vehicle interior.
Carefully insert the instrument panel central tube -1- in the body.
Engage the instrument panel central tube on the A/C unit -3- and on the upper -2- and lower -4- stop brackets.
Align the instrument panel central tube -4- with the A-pillar.
Scheme 74
Tighten the two nuts -2- and -3- on threaded pin -1- and insert the threaded pin in mount -5- on the A-pillar on the driver side and tighten.
- The threaded pin must be installed completely and its collar must make contact with the mount on the A-pillar.
Tighten the left and right instrument panel central tube bolts and nuts.
Further installation is performed in reverse sequence of removal, but observe the following
Install the steering column. Refer to Removal and Installation .
| WARNING | Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery. |
Connect the battery ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Removal and Installation .
Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the vehicle diagnostic tester.
Scheme 75
Remove the driver side instrument panel cover. Refer to DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL COVER .
Remove the bolts -arrows-.
Remove the left impact absorber -1- downward.
Install in reverse order of removal.
Scheme 76
Remove the left instrument panel vent air guide channel. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Removal and Installation .
Remove the bolts -1- and -3- and remove the mounting bracket -2- downward.
Note. The removed steering column is shown in the illustration.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
The mounting bracket can only be positioned properly when the central tube is installed.
Attach the steering column and mounting bracket to the central tube first, and then tighten the mounting bracket screws -1- and -3- to the mount on the lower windshield frame. Refer to Removal and Installation
Scheme 77
Remove the driver side instrument panel cover. Refer to DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL COVER .
Remove the driver knee airbag. Refer to DRIVER KNEE AIRBAG IGNITER -N295 .
Remove the bolts -arrows-.
Remove the right impact absorber -1- downward.
Install in reverse order of removal.
