ROOF TRIM STRIP OVERVIEW

Note. Note different versions. The roof trim strips are not riveted to the body and must be unclipped from underneath for removing. Do not twist or bend high gloss trim strips. To remove roof trim molding, it is not necessary to remove the side window.

  1. Roof Trim Molding Standard roof trim molding: -- Remove the roof trim molding from the body beginning at the C-pillar. High gloss roof trim strip: -- Pull the lower trim strip out the clips beginning on the side of the C-pillar. -- Carefully pry the roof trim strip out of the clips above the side window and unclip it from the body flange. -- Beginning at the A-pillar, unclip the roof trim strip from the body moving downward.
  2. Side Window
  3. Decorative Trim Strip -- To remove the C-pillar, pry it out of the clips beginning at the side. -- Pry the roof trim molding on the roof out of the side clips. -- Slide the trim molding down out of the roof trim molding.

High gloss roof trim strip: -- Pull the lower trim strip out of the clips on the C-pillar beginning on the side. -- Carefully pry the roof trim strip out of the clips on the D-pillar and side window and unclip it from the body flange. -- Beginning at the A-pillar, unclip the roof trim strip from the body moving downward.

SILL PANEL TRIM OVERVIEW, ALLROAD

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Roller 3356

Note. The trim can only be replaced. It is not possible to remove the trim without breaking it. Remove adhesive residue on body if necessary. Clean the adhesive surfaces on body with cleaning solution -D 009 401 04-. The adhesive surfaces must be free of dust and grease. Warm the adhesive surfaces and the trim to approximately 40 °C (105 °F) before installing. When installing, the trim must be applied according to the contours. It is not possible to make corrections later. Press the cover with the 3356 after installing.

  1. Sill Panel Cover -- Remove the lower screws. -- Starting at the front, remove the sill panel trim from the bottom toward the top from the Velcro fastener for the mounting strip. -- Install the trim into the mounting strip first from the top. -- Press the trim from the top into the Velcro fastener and secure it with the screws. NOTE: If the same sill panel trim is going to used again, then replace the adhesive strips.

Scheme 55: FRONT NOISE INSULATION OVERVIEW
  1. Noise Insulation Removing Front wheel spoiler removed, refer to «FRONT WHEEL SPOILER»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment-avant) . -- Remove the screws -1- and -2-, as well as the lower wheel housing screws (3 on each side) and remove the noise insulation under the bumper. When installing, slide the front noise insulation in under the bumper. NOTE: If the vehicle has an auxiliary heater, then pay close attention the exact routing of the exhaust pipe through the noise insulation.

  3. Quick-release Fastener Rotate 180° to the left to remove. The fastener must engage when turned.

  1. Rear Noise Insulation Loosen the 3 rear quick-release fasteners on the noise insulation. Loosen the quick-release fasteners -6- and remove the noise insulation toward the rear.

  1. B-pillar Trim -- Remove the door window. Refer to «REAR DOOR WINDOW»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/windows/#glass-window-regulators-avant) . -- Remove the B-pillar trim. -- Disengage the window guide near the B-pillar from the trim and remove it. -- Remove the screws -4- and remove the trim from the door. -- When installing the window guide into the trim, coat the guide with a soapy solution.

  6. C-pillar Trim -- Loosen the window frame trim near the C-pillar. -- Remove the screw, push the trim downward and remove it to the side.

OUTER SILL PANEL STRIP

Note. The sill panel is secured to the sill panel using adhesive strips. It is not possible to remove without destroying.

  1. Inner Door Seal
  2. Rear Sill Panel Trim Removing -- Heat the door sill molding using a hot air gun and pull the molding upward and off. Installing -- The side-member must be free of dirt and grease in the adhesive area. -- Heat the adhesive surface to approximately 40 °C (105 °F) with a heat gun. -- Remove protective film from adhesive tape. -- Insert the sill panel trim with the centering pins in the side member and press it on firmly in stages from front to back.
  3. Front Sill Panel Trim Removal and installation same as with rear sill panel strip.
  4. Adhesive Tape Pull off protective foil before installing.

STONE CHIP PROTECTIVE MOLDING

Note. The stone chip protective molding is also secured to the sill panel using adhesive strips. It is not possible to remove without destroying. The clips are destroyed when removing the stone chip protective molding and must be replaced.

  1. Stone Chip Protective Molding Removing -- Warm the adhesive areas using a hot air gun and remove the stone chip protective molding from the sill panel in stages. NOTE: The clips are removed from the retaining pins when the stone chip protective molding is pulled off and they must be replaced. Installing NOTE: The side-member must be free of dirt and grease in the area with the adhesive strips. -- Bend the removal tabs on the protective film up so they can be reached when the stone chip protective molding is installed on the sill panel. -- Slide the stone chip protective molding onto the clips as far as the stop working from back to front. -- Note the order for removing the removal tabs. -- Press the stone chip protective molding onto the sill panel in stages.
  2. Clip Quantity: 9 The installation direction for the clip is stamped on. Slide the clips onto the pins according to the installation direction and engage them. Align the clips lengthwise to the side-member.

FENDER COVER

  1. Cover Removal: -- Remove the expanding clip under the wheel housing liner, heat the adhesive surface with a hot air blower and remove the cover in stages. Installing: -- Remove the protective film sideways so that they can be reached when the fender cover is dismantled. -- Position it above the centering pin from front to back and in line with the contour when installing. -- Remove the protective film on the removal tabs between the fender and the cover and tighten it by hand in stages. -- Install the expanding clip in the cover.
  2. Adhesive Tape Remove the protective film a little further before installing the cover and bend it back to the side with the help of the removal tabs.

  1. Side Panel Trim Removal: -- Remove the screws under the wheel housing liner. -- Remove the expanding clip under the wheel housing liner, heat the adhesive surface with a heat gun and remove the trim in stages. Installing: -- Bend the protective film up so it can be reached when the trim is installed on the side panel. -- Install so that the gap dimension to the sill panel trim and to the door panel according to the contours. Refer to «SIDE PANEL TRIM => Gap Dimension between the Side Panel/Sill Panel Trim»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment-avant__side-panel-trim) . -- Remove the protective film on the removal tabs between the side panel and trim and press it on by hand in stages. -- Tighten the screws in this sequence: center, rear and front. -- Press the expanding clip into the cover.
  2. Adhesive Tape Pull off protective foil before installing.
  3. Wheel Housing Liner
  4. Bolt 2.5 Nm
  5. Rear Door Trim To remove, warm adhesive points with hot air gun and gradually pull off trim. Position according to contours when installing and gradually press on firmly by hand.

GAP DIMENSION BETWEEN THE SIDE PANEL/SILL PANEL TRIM

Check the gap dimensions using the T40038 /8. Adjust if necessary.

Install the side panel trim -1- with distance -a- from the sill panel trim -2-.

Install the door panel -1- with distance -a- = 2.5 mm from the side panel trim -2-.

Pay attention to the parallel gap progression.

ROOF RAIL

CAUTIONIf being re-used, install the nuts and screws with locking compound.

  1. Roof Rail Lower the headliner. Refer to «Removal and Installation»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-avant) . -- Adjusting elements must be pushed into the roof and be in the installation position with slight pretension. -- Place railing on roof and threaded pins through adjusting elements. Follow the installation sequence: -- First tighten the screws and then the nuts to the tightening specification.
  2. Adjusting Element Insert the front adjusting element and both rear adjusting elements into the holes and slide them forward into their installation position. Insert the remaining adjusting element (2nd element as seen from the front) into the hole and slide it toward the rear into its installation position. Position the adjusting elements so that it makes contact, with light pre-tension of 0.3 Nm.

MIRROR GLASS

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Removing

Protect the upper and lower corners of the housing with tape to prevent paint damage.

Press the mirror glass -1- up and down from the mirror adjusting unit using the 80 - 200 -arrow-.

WARNINGWear protective gloves.

Disconnect the heated mirror electrical connectors -2- and -3- on the rear side of the mirror glass -1-.

Unclip the electrical connector -5- from the bracket, if applicable.

Disconnect electrical harness connector -4-.

Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Position the mirror glass on the mirror adjusting unit and press it on.

Note. Only press in the center of the mirror when pressing the mirror glass on.

EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR HOUSING

Removing

Remove mirror glass. Refer to MIRROR GLASS .

Note. Cover the area around the mirror housing with a soft cloth to protect the paint.

Remove the screws -4- and -5-.

Release the retaining tabs -3- in the -direction of arrow A-.

Release the clip -1- and remove the exterior rearview mirror housing from the cover -2- -B arrows-.

Press the mirror adjusting unit down and remove the exterior rearview mirror housing upward.

Disconnect the connector for the turn signals

Remove the turn signal from the exterior mirror housing. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Installation

  1. Tightening specifications, refer to «EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment-avant) .

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

MIRROR ADJUSTING UNIT MOUNT COVER

Removing

Remove the exterior rearview mirror housing. Refer to EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR HOUSING .

Remove the bolts -arrows-.

Disengage the retaining tab -2- and remove the cover -1- on the mirror adjusting unit mount.

Installation

  1. Tightening specifications, refer to «EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment-avant) .

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Install the exterior rearview mirror housing, refer to EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR HOUSING .

MIRROR ADJUSTING UNIT MOUNT

Removing

Remove the door trim and window frame trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the speaker trim and the treble speaker bracket. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Disconnect the electrical connector by pulling the retainer -3- back -arrow A- and pressing the release -4- down.

Scheme 79: MIRROR ADJUSTING UNIT MOUNT

Pry the grommet -2- out of the exterior mirror seal.

Remove the retaining studs from the door in the exterior rearview mirror area.

Lift the exterior rearview mirror seal -1- off the door while removing the bolts -arrows-.

Remove the mirror adjusting unit mount while guiding the wiring harness out through the body opening.

Installation

  1. Tightening specifications, refer to «EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment-avant) .

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Install the exterior rearview mirror seal.

Install the treble speaker bracket and speaker trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Install the door trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

MIRROR ADJUSTING UNIT

Remove mirror glass. Refer to MIRROR GLASS .

Remove the screw -1- from the mirror adjusting unit -2-.

Release the retaining tabs -arrows- and remove the mirror adjusting unit.

Disconnect the electrical connector -1- on the mirror adjusting unit -2-.

Installation

RADIATOR GRILLE

Remove the bumper cover. Refer to FRONT BUMPER COVER .

Remove the impact absorber. Refer to IMPACT ABSORBER .

Remove the bolts -3-.

Free up the parking aid sensor electrical wiring harness on the radiator grille, if applicable, by disconnecting the cable ties -1-.

Remove the electrical connector -2- from the bracket.

To do this, press the release in the -direction of arrow A- and remove the electrical connector -1- from the bracket -2- in the -direction of arrow B-.

Remove the bolts -arrows-.

Remove the reinforcing bars -1 through 3-.

Disconnect the electrical connectors -5- and -6- on the parking aid sensors.

Remove the bolts -arrows- and the radiator grille -4- from the bumper cover.

If necessary, removing the parking aid sensor mount by releasing the clips and removing the mount.

Installation

  1. Tightening specifications, refer to «RADIATOR GRILLE OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment-avant) .

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

Install the impact absorber. Refer to IMPACT ABSORBER .

Install the bumper cover. Refer to FRONT BUMPER COVER .

OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR BRACKET

Remove the outside air temperature sensor -G17-. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Release the clips -arrows- and remove the bracket -1- from the radiator grille -2-.

Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Position the bracket on the radiator grille and press it on until it engages audibly.

Install the outside air temperature sensor -G17-. Refer to Removal and Installation .

  1. Wheel Spoiler -- Remove the bolts in the wheel housing liner in the spoiler area. -- Press the wheel housing liner to the side in the spoiler area and loosen the locking pins. -- Remove the wheel spoiler under the wheel housing liner.

WARNINGSpoiler must also be adhered with an additional adhesive sealing bead in addition to adhesive strips. The spoiler can only be installed with the Assembly adhesive -D 172 090 A2-.

  1. Roof Spoiler CAUTION: Rear lid and spoiler must be completely free of dust and grease in adhesion area. When removing, protect adjacent painted areas on lid with fabric reinforced adhesive tape. Heat adhesion area on lid using V.A.G 1416 Remove spoiler from rear lid begging with side. Completely remove adhesive residue from adhesive bands on rear lid. Cut back residual bead from adhesive on rear lid between adhesive bands. Before installing a new spoiler, clean the bonding surface with cleaning solutionD 009 401 04 Wipe cleaned surfaces with paper towel. Apply adhesive over entire spoiler width between rear adhesive bands.

  3. Double Sided Adhesive Tape Remove protective paper just before installation.
  4. Adhesive Sealing Material Assembly adhesive -D 172 090 A2- Apply 3 mm diameter adhesive bead. Cut nozzle tip back accordingly.

  1. Rear Lid Spoiler
  2. Double Sided Adhesive Tape Part of delivery package. Remove protective paper just before installation.
  3. Adhesive Sealing Material Cut nozzle tip back to an interior diameter of 3 mm. Apply adhesive added to delivery casing between adhesive bands with a diameter of 3 mm over entire width of spoiler. Place spoiler so that it comes in contact with and is centered on rear lid. Press spoiler down firmly beginning in center and working towards outside. Secure spoiler with adhesive tape while curing. CAUTION: Vehicle must stay at room temperature at least 4 hours after spoiler is installed.

  1. Bolt 2 Nm
  2. Wheel Housing Liner (Front Part) Removing Driveshaft cover, removing Press in front wheel accordingly. Remove the bolts on the lower wheel housing liner. Loosen the retainer on the clips, for example, using a small screwdriver, and slide the clip sideways off the retaining pins. -- Disengage wheel housing liner from fender and pull downward and out. Installing in reverse order
  3. Wheel Housing Liner (Rear Part)
  4. Clip Qty. 7 NOTE: After removing the wheel housing liner, the clips must be replaced.
