DOOR, ADJUSTING

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Adjustment Gauge 3371
2. Template T40038 /8

Note. The >>min and max<< markings on T40038 /8 are used to check the lateral adjustment. The groove in the center of the template is used for checking the height. The 0.4 mm graduation is used for checking the recess of the front door to the fender, or of the rear door to the front door. the 0.6 mm graduation is used to check the recess of the trim on the B-pillar from the rear door to the front door.

Gap dimensions

Note. All dimensions are given in mm. All dimension tolerances are ± 0.5 mm. The parallel alignment of the gap must not exceed 0.5 mm.

1. Dimension F = 3.5 mm

Driver Side

Remove the driver side instrument panel cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the trim at the bottom of the A-pillar. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the driver side relay carrier mount [For engine(s) CAEB, CALA, CCBA] Removal and Installation .

Passenger Side

Remove the glove compartment. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Procedure for Both Sides

Remove the A-pillar coupling station. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALA, CCBA] Removal and Installation .

Loosen the bolts -arrows B- at the top and at the bottom of the hinge and on the A-pillar -1-.

Adjust the door -2- lengthwise.

Tighten the bolts -B arrows-.

Height Adjustment

Note. The hinge screws on the door (item 8 DOOR OVERVIEW ) are so-called fitting screws, therefore it is not necessary to adjust the door using these screws. If it is necessary to make an adjustment using these bolts, the bolt can be replaced with one of the same length and strength category.

Use the T40038 /8 for adjusting.

Place the T40038 /8 in distance -a- = 150 mm.

When correctly adjusted, the T40038 /8 must contact the roof and trim strip >>point 1<< (-arrows-) as illustrated.

At >>point 2<< the bottom of the window guide must be inside the groove.

Adjustment to Center of Vehicle

Use the T40038 /8 for adjusting.

Place the T40038 /8 in distance -a- = 150.

Loosen the bolts -A arrows- (Refer to LONGITUDINAL DIRECTION ADJUSTMENT ) on the top and bottom of the hinge.

Adjust the door -2- lengthwise.

Tighten the bolts -A arrows-.

For the >>min<< position, >>points -1- and -3-<< must touch.

>>Point -2-<< may show a gap.

For the >>max<< position, >>points -2- and -3-<< must touch.

>>Point -1-<< may show a gap.

Loosen the bolts -2-.

Slide the striker pin -1- until the door is flush with the body contours.

Note. Only work from the center of the vehicle out when adjusting at the striker pin. Do not adjust the door height using the striker pin because the door lock will be damaged.

Loosen the bolts -2-.

Slide the striker pin -1- until the door is flush with the body contours.

Striker pin must align in door lock center for correct adjustment.

Tighten the bolts -2-.

CENTRAL LOCKING SYSTEM COMPONENT OVERVIEW

Note. Central locking functions electronically. Actuators in doors are integrated in the door lock and have 2 motors. Actuators cannot be replaced separately. The first motor locks the door and the second motor locks the interior door mechanism (Safe function). Now, doors also can no longer be opened from the interior. After an accident in which the airbag deploys, the central locking control module opens any doors which were locked. Central locking control module is located in right rear side panel.

Open the release and the disconnect the connectors -1- and -2-.

Disconnect electrical harness connector -3-.

Disconnect the connector -2- on the door control module.

Press the retaining detent -5- in -direction of arrow- and disengage the door control module -6- on the door shell.

Installation

Installation is in reverse order of removal. Make sure the catch engages in the inner door panel.

DOOR CONTROL MODULE -J388- /DOOR CONTROL MODULE -J389- REMOVING AND INSTALLING

Press the release downward and disconnect the connector.

Press the catch in -direction of arrow- and disengage the door control module -1- on the door shell.

Installation

Installation is in reverse order of removal. Make sure the catch engages in the inner door panel.

COMFORT SYSTEM CENTRAL CONTROL MODULE -J393-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING

Open the right luggage compartment side trim panel.

Open the clips -arrows- and remove the Comfort System Central Control Module -J393- -4- from the retainer.

Carefully disconnect the connectors -1- and -3- and the connector for the antenna -7-.

Disconnect the connectors -2, 5 and 6-.

To disconnect electrical connector, press catch -1-, rotate the retaining bracket in -direction of arrow- and remove the connector.

Remove the comfort system central control module -J393-.

Open the right luggage compartment side trim panel.

Disconnect the control module connectors.

Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the control module behind the mount.

Removing

Remove the door arrester bolt -2-.

Remove the cover caps -1- and -3- from the stud bolts.

Remove the stud bolts -4- on the upper and lower door hinge.

Carefully remove the door upward out of the door hinges.

Installation

Note. Do not make any adjustments after installing the door.

Disengage the actuating link from the operating lever.

Remove the bolts -arrows-.

Engage the actuating link -3- in the door lock operating lever -2-.

Insert the operating cable into the cable mounting bracket -1- and rotate the lever -4- 90° -arrow-.

1. The lever must engage audibly with the locking tab on the cable mounting bracket.

Install the door lock cover. Refer to DOOR LOCK COVER

Install the inner door panel cover. Refer to DOOR INNER PANEL COVER .

Install the door trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Install the lock cylinder. Refer to LOCK CYLINDER .

Remove the door trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the inner door panel cover. Refer to DOOR INNER PANEL COVER .

Turn the operating cable on the lever -1- 90° in the -direction of arrow A- and remove it from the bracket -2-.

Rotate the actuating link on the door lock operating lever -3- in the -direction of arrow B-.

1. The actuating link must be aligned with the opening on the operating lever.

Disengage the actuating link -1- on the operating lever by pressing the bracket -3- out of the mount on the cable mounting bracket -2- -arrow-.

INSTALLATION

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Engage the actuating link -3- in the door lock operating lever -2-.

Insert the operating cable into the cable mounting bracket -1- and rotate the lever -4- 90° -arrow-.

1. The lever must engage audibly with the locking tab on the cable mounting bracket.

Install the inner door panel cover. Refer to DOOR INNER PANEL COVER .

Install the door trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Squeeze the latch -3- and remove the cover -2- from the door lock -1-.

Installation

When installing, the latch -3- must audibly click inside the door lock.

Removing

Remove lock cylinder. Refer to LOCK CYLINDER .

Insert the nipple -2- in the door opener release lever -3- -bottom arrow-.

Rotate the nipple 90° -top arrow- and press the actuating link into the cable mounting bracket on the door lock -1- until it engages audibly.

Install the inner door panel cover. Refer to DOOR INNER PANEL COVER .

Install the door trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Install the lock cylinder. Refer to LOCK CYLINDER .

Inner Door Seal, Removing and Installing

1. Inner Door seal Remove the window frame trim. Refer to «Removal and Installation»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-sedan) . Loosen door arrester on the A-pillar. Connected all around on body flange To remove, remove from body flange. When installing, align the seal with the center of the vulcanized joint on the lower hinge and press it by hand onto the body flange.

REPLACING THE DOOR OUTER SEAL

Note. The door outer seal is completely bonded and can only be replaced. Adhesion surfaces must be free of dust and grease. Both the vehicle and the seal must be room temperature.

Outer Door Seal NOTE: Before removing, mark the position on the door, for example, with adhesive tape. -- Slightly lift the seal at the top of the window frame and cut it with commercially available scissors. NOTE: Make sure there is no adhesive left on the door, first pull the seal lengthwise and then pull it off the door. Removal: -- Bend the seal lengthwise and then pull it off little by little, refer to «DOOR SEALS»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#front-doors-central-locking-system-sedan__door-seals) . Installation -- Clean the adhesive surface, if necessary, remove any remaining adhesive with VAS 6349. -- Loosen the door check on the body. Refer to «DOOR SEALS»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#front-doors-central-locking-system-sedan__door-seals) . -- Pull the door outer seal behind the door check. -- Secure the door check again. NOTE: Line up the marking on the door outer seal with the corner at the top of the B-pillar. Secure the door outer seal to the top of the window frame on the left and on the right with tape, item 2 «DOOR SEALS»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#front-doors-central-locking-system-sedan__door-seals) . The water drain (3x) is in the correct position when it is found in the outer door seal on the underside of the door. It is necessary to press the door outer seal starting in the center and the working outward left and right in steps. -- Remove off the peel-off backing near the bottom of the door. -- Press the door outer seal starting in the center and working outward left and right. -- Continue to remove the peel-off backing little by little and press the door outer seal onto the door. -- Press the door outer seal upward along the A-pillar and B-pillar. -- Press the door outer seal along the window frame. CAUTION: Do not stretch or crush the seal when installing it. The seal will come off wherever it is stretched or crushed along the bottom or on the A- or B-pillar. The door outer seal can be bent or crushed only in the are around the top of the window frame because window frame cover will hold it place. -- Press the end of the door outer seal, item 2 «DOOR SEALS»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#front-doors-central-locking-system-sedan__door-seals) with a 3356. CAUTION: Do not close the door for at least 2 hours to prevent loosening or moving the door outer seal. The vehicle must be at room temperature.

REMOVE THE DOOR CHECK

Remove the door arrester bolt -arrow-.

Pull the seal behind the door arrester and tighten the screw to the tightening specification, refer to item 6 DOOR CHECK OVERVIEW .

Note. Pulling the seal laterally will loosen the adhesive and then it is possible to remove the door outer seal from the window frame without any left over adhesive on it.

Bend the door seal -1- laterally as illustrated -arrow- and remove it.

Proceed the same way all around and remove the door seal completely.

Remove any left over adhesive on the window frame with VAS 6349.

Install Outer Door Seal for New Doors

Note. The front edge of the seal must pressed onto the radius of the window frame -arrow-. To make it easier to install, mark these distances and then press the seal on.

1. Outer Door Seal After marking the radius run-out, continue to install in the previously described manner, refer to «REPLACING THE DOOR OUTER SEAL»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#front-doors-central-locking-system-sedan__replacing-the-door-outer-seal) . Starting from the door lock and moving upward up to the lower door hinge, the edge of the seal must be placed on the run-out of the inner radius as illustrated. The front edge of the seal must be placed on the run-out of the outer radius from the lower door hinge at the bottom of the door up to the door lock. -- Press the seal secure with a 3356, refer to «INSTALLING THE DOOR OUTER SEAL»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#front-doors-central-locking-system-sedan) .

1. The rear edge of the seal must be placed on the run-out of the inner radius starting in area -A- from the door lock up to the lower door hinge.
2. In area -B- the front edge of the seal must be placed on the run-out of the outer radius

2. Outer Door Seal -- Tape the door outer seal to the top of the window frame first -arrows-. CAUTION: Only use 3356 to press the door outer seal onto the seal base. -- Fold up the door outer seal as illustrated and then press it onto the seal base using force and 3356 all the way around.

Remove the door handle -2- and sensor -1-. Refer to OUTER DOOR HANDLE .

With light force on the screwdriver, pry out the sensor form the door handle.

Slide the lock cylinder into the mounting bracket and then check if the door lock closing and opening position is activated.

MOUNTING BRACKET

1. Pry Lever 80-200

Remove the door trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the inner door panel cover. Refer to DOOR INNER PANEL COVER .

Turn the operating cable on the lever -1- 90° in the -direction of arrow A- and remove it from the bracket -2-.

Rotate the actuating link on the door lock operating lever -3- in the -direction of arrow B-.

1. The actuating link must be aligned with the opening on the operating lever.

Disengage the actuating link from the operating lever.

Remove the outside door handle. Refer to OUTER DOOR HANDLE .

Remove the door lock cover. Refer to DOOR LOCK COVER

Disengage the electrical wire on the mounting bracket -arrow- if applicable.

Free up the electrical wire spiral clip -1- using the 80-200.

Note. Use a soapy solution if necessary make removal easier.

Remove the bolt -3- and the mounting bracket -2-.

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Engage the actuating link -3- in the door lock operating lever -2-.

Insert the operating cable into the cable mounting bracket -1- and rotate the lever -4- 90° -arrow-.

1. The lever must engage audibly with the locking tab on the cable mounting bracket.

Install the door lock cover. Refer to DOOR LOCK COVER .

Install the inner door panel cover. Refer to DOOR INNER PANEL COVER .

Install the door trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Install the outer door handle. Refer to OUTER DOOR HANDLE .

OUTER DOOR HANDLE

Removing

Press the door outer seal to the side and remove the cover over the hole -arrow A-.

Remove the locking bolt -4- as far as the stop using a screwdriver -1-.

Pull the outer door handle outward and hold it in the "opened" position.

Press the lock cylinder retaining bracket -3- inward. The outer door handle is secured in the "opened" position.

Remove the lock cylinder -2- from the mounting bracket -arrow B-.

Note. If the lock cylinder cannot be pressed out, slide the vehicle key into it and remove it with the key turned slightly.

Pull the outer door handle -1- in the -direction of the arrow-. This disengages the handle from the operating lever in the mounting bracket.

Tilt the outer door handle -1- outward -arrow- and remove it from the mount on the mounting bracket.

Replace the outer door handle washers -1- and -2- if damaged or brittle.

Insert the outer door handle -1- -arrow A-. It must engage in the mount -2- on the mounting bracket -3-.

Tilt the outer door handle -1- in the -direction of arrow B- and slide the >>coupling plate<< -5- into the mounting bracket in front of the operating lever -4-.

Press lock cylinder retaining bracket onto the outer door handle.

Install the lock cylinder. Refer to LOCK CYLINDER .

OUTER DOOR HANDLE TRIM

Note. In vehicles without "keyless entry", trim installed instead of the outer door handle touch sensor.

Remove the outside door handle. Refer to OUTER DOOR HANDLE .

Pry the outer door handle trim -2- out using a small screwdriver -1- at the location shown in the illustration -arrow-.

Remove the outer door handle trim from the handle -3-.

Installation

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

Slide the outer door handle trim in until it engages audibly.

Install the outer door handle. Refer to OUTER DOOR HANDLE .

Install the lock cylinder. Refer to LOCK CYLINDER .

OUTER WINDOW SHAFT STRIP

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. 3x Removal Tool T40219

Note. After removing with the door glass with window regulator still installed, the window shaft strip must be replaced. It is possible to remove without destroying only when the door glass and window regular are removed.

Open the window.

Door trim removed. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the exterior mirror. Refer to EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR .

Before the window shaft strip -1- can be removed, first disconnect it from the door hooks -arrows- -2-.

Removing

Insert the first T40219 on the mirror triangle between the outer window shaft strip and door window.

Move the T40219 toward the rear to -dimension c-.

Pull the T40219 upward and slide it into place into the window shaft strip.

Note. The line on the T40219 must be flush with the upper edge of the window shaft strip.

Insert the second T40219 between the door window and the window shaft strip near the B-pillar.

Move the second T40219 to -dimension b- and fit it in from underneath.

Insert the third T40219 near the B-pillar move it to -dimension a-.

1. Measure all of the dimensions of the window shaft strip beginning from the B-pillar.

1. Dimension -a- = 185 to 230 mm.
2. Dimension -b- = 350 to 385 mm.
3. Dimension -c- = 520 ••• 555 mm.

Gently push the T40219 outward and release the window shaft strip.

Release the window shaft strip -2- completely in steps and then pull it upward off the door flange -1-.

Installation

Beginning at the A-pillar, press the window shaft strip completely into the retaining hooks in the door.

Install the exterior mirror. Refer to EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR .

STRIKER PIN

Removing

Remove the bolts -2- and the striker pin -1-.

Installation

1. Tightening specifications, refer to «STRIKER PIN, DOOR LOCK AND DOOR OPENER ACTUATING LINK OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#front-doors-central-locking-system-sedan) .

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal

Note. The striker pin backing must be position with the pins -arrows- exactly in the hole. The striker pins must be sheared off cleanly after sliding the striker pin. If a new part is being installed, then remove the sheared off pins from the striker pin.

Adjust the striker pin. (Scheme 133)

1. Window Guide Remove the door trim panel and the window frame trim. Refer to «Removal and Installation»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-sedan) . The exterior mirror is moved. Refer to «EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment-sedan) . Remove B-Pillar trim on the front door, refer to «FRONT B-PILLAR TRIM»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment-sedan) . Door window removed. -- Beginning at the upper window guide, as well as on the A-pillar and B-pillar, remove it from the door. -- Remove the window guide from the door. To make it easier to install, spray the window guide with soap solution. Push the window guide into the guide shafts as illustrated. Press the window guide with the latching tabs into the door at the top.

Release the threaded pins clips -arrow- for the window regulator with an 11 mm socket by mounting the socket onto the threaded pins.

Remove the clip -1- for the cable -2- from the inner side of the cable guide -1-.

Remove the sealing plugs -1, 3 and 6-.

2. Window Regulator Motor NOTE: The window regulator motor can be removed or installed with the motor or door window in any position. Removing -- Remove the door trim. Refer to «Removal and Installation»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-sedan) . -- Remove the screws -6- and remove the window regulator motor from the window regulator. NOTE: With the window regulator motor switches connected, switch the ignition on and run the door windows up to the stop. Continue holding the window regulator switch for approximately 2 seconds so the basic setting and one-touch up/down function are activated.

Fuel Filler Door Unlock Motor -V 155- Removal: -- Fuel filler door removed -- Pull the comfort system central control module -J393- into the luggage compartment and pull it forward. -- Remove the fuel tank lid unlock motor -V 155- forward off the body flange and disconnect the electrical connector. Installing: -- Slide the fuel tank lid unlock motor -V 155- onto the flange and slide the emergency release into the luggage compartment.
3. Fuel Filler Door Removal: Must be replaced after removing. Refer to «REPLACE THE TANK DOOR UNIT»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids-sedan) -- Open the door and remove the bolt. -- Pull the bolted side of the door out of the side panel slightly. -- Completely remove the door from the side panel diagonally toward the rear. Installing: -- Guide cable through opening in fuel filler door cup. -- Insert fuel filler door diagonally until catches on protruding flange engage in side panel. -- Bolt the door and the door release motor together using the bolt -4-.
