Windshield Wiper/washer System: Maintenance Audi A3 8P facelift

WASHER FLUID LINES

The following descriptions can be found in Electrical System General Information. Refer to General Information

1. Washer fluid line hose connections, disconnecting and connecting
2. Corrugated hose washer fluid line, repairing

WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR, VEHICLES WITHOUT AUXILIARY HEATING

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Drip tray

Removing

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Remove right front wheel.

Remove front right wheel housing liner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the right headlamp.

1. Halogen headlamps. Refer to «HEADLAMPS»(ref-496070-S01638844112012082100000)
2. HID Headlamps «HEADLAMPS»(ref-496070-S13769428812012082100000)
3. Bi-Xenon gas discharge headlamps with cornering lamp. Refer to «HEADLAMPS»(ref-496070-S29082010572012082100000)

Vehicles with gasoline engine

Scheme 13

Remove the line -3- on the filler tube -2- for the windshield washer fluid reservoir to the EVAP canister.

Remove the EVAP canister, with the lines still connected, upward and out of its mount -arrow- and lay it to the side.

Remove the screw -1- on the windshield washer fluid reservoir filler tube.

Vehicles with TDI engine

Scheme 14

Remove the fuel filter, with the lines still connected, upward and out of its mount -arrow- and lay it to the side.

Remove the screw -1- on the windshield washer fluid reservoir filler tube -2-.

All

Scheme 15

Place a drip tray under the windshield washer fluid reservoir.

Remove the washer fluid lines -4- and -5- on the windshield washer fluid pump.

Free up wiring harness.

Disconnect electrical connectors -1 to 3-.

Remove the windshield washer fluid reservoir -arrows-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following

1. Washer fluid hose must engage audibly into connection for washer fluid pump.

Install the right headlamp

1. Halogen headlamps. Refer to «HEADLAMPS»(ref-496070-S01638844112012082100000)
2. HID Headlamps. Refer to «HEADLAMPS»(ref-496070-S13769428812012082100000)
3. Bi-Xenon gas discharge headlamps with cornering lamp. Refer to «HEADLAMPS»(ref-496070-S29082010572012082100000)

Install the right front wheel housing liner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Tightening Specifications

WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR, VEHICLES WITH AUXILIARY HEATING

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Drip tray

Removing

Scheme 16

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Remove right front wheel.

Remove the noise insulation in the center -attachments 1 through 3-.

Remove the noise insulation on the right side -attachments 1 through 3-.

Scheme 17

Remove the clamps -1- and -5-.

Scheme 18

Remove the bolt -6- on the front exhaust pipe bracket.

Remove the auxiliary heater front exhaust pipe -2-.

Remove the coolant hose -4- bracket -3-.

Remove the right headlamp.

1. Halogen Headlamps. Refer to «HEADLAMPS»(ref-496070-S01638844112012082100000)
2. HID Headlamps. Refer to «HEADLAMPS»(ref-496070-S13769428812012082100000)
3. Bi-Xenon gas discharge headlamps with cornering lamp. Refer to «HEADLAMPS»(ref-496070-S29082010572012082100000)

Vehicles with gasoline engine

Remove the line -3- on the filler tube -2- for the windshield washer fluid reservoir to the EVAP canister.

Remove the EVAP canister, with the lines still connected, upward and out of its mount -arrow- and lay it to the side.

Remove the screw -1- on the windshield washer fluid reservoir filler tube.

Vehicles with TDI engine

Remove the fuel filter, with the lines still connected, upward and out of its mount -arrow- and lay it to the side.

Remove the screw -1- on the windshield washer fluid reservoir filler tube -2-.

All

Scheme 19

Place a drip tray under the windshield washer fluid reservoir.

Remove the washer fluid lines -1- and -2- on the windshield washer fluid pump.

Free up the wiring harness on the locations identified with -7- and -9- using the pry lever 80-200.

Open the bracket -3- and remove the electric wire.

Disconnect electrical connectors -4 to 6-.

Remove bolts -8- and -10-.

Slide the windshield washer fluid reservoir in the drive direction.

Unclip the auxiliary heater fuel line -3- on the windshield washer fluid reservoir -1- and on the filler tube -4-.

Scheme 20

Remove the filler tube in -direction of arrow- from the windshield washer fluid reservoir.

Remove the screw -2- on auxiliary heater bracket.

Remove nuts -1- and -2-.

Scheme 21

Release the lower auxiliary heater bracket -3- on the longitudinal member in -direction of arrow A- and on the side of the longitudinal member in -direction of arrow B-.

Push the auxiliary heater in the drive direction far enough toward the rear until it is possible to remove the windshield washer fluid reservoir from the guide.

Installing

Scheme 22

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following

Make sure that the fuel line edge protection -arrow- on the lock carrier -1- and that the wiring harness are not missing.

1. Washer fluid hose must engage audibly into connection for washer fluid pump.

Install the auxiliary heater exhaust pipe.

Install the right headlamp.

1. Halogen Headlamps. Refer to «HEADLAMPS»(ref-496070-S01638844112012082100000)
2. HID Headlamps. Refer to «HEADLAMPS»(ref-496070-S13769428812012082100000)
3. Bi-Xenon gas discharge headlamps with cornering lamp. Refer to «HEADLAMPS»(ref-496070-S29082010572012082100000)

Install the right front wheel housing liner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Tightening Specifications

WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR FILLER NECK

Removing

Scheme 23

Vehicles with gasoline engine

Remove the EVAP canister vacuum line -1- while pressing the release button.

Note. Ignore item -2-.

Remove the vacuum hose on the coolant pipe.

Scheme 24

Remove the EVAP canister -2- with the line still connected out of its bracket -arrow B- while lifting the release strap -1- -arrow A-.

Move the EVAP canister to the side.

Vehicles with TDI engine

Scheme 25

Remove the engine cover -arrows-.

Remove the bolt -1-.

Scheme 26

Remove the bolt -2- and nut -3-.

Remove the hose bracket -4- on the fuel filter and lay the fuel filter -7- to the side with the hoses still connected.

Note. If necessary remove the fuel hoses on the bracket. Ignore items -5 and 6-.

All Vehicles

Scheme 27

Remove bolt -1-.

Remove the filler tube and filler neck -2- on the windshield washer fluid reservoir -3-.

Installing

Scheme 28

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Push the filler tube -3- all the way onto the windshield washer fluid reservoir -1-.

1. The tab -2- must fit into the opening -4- on the filler tube.

Vehicles with TDI engine

Install the fuel filter. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Tightening Specifications

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Drip tray

Removing

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Remove the washer fluid reservoir filler neck. Refer to WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR FILLER NECK .

Remove the front section of the front right wheel housing liner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove fog lamp. Refer to. FOG LAMP, THROUGH 05.2008 .

Place a drip tray under the windshield washer fluid reservoir.

Scheme 29

Disconnect the electrical connector -5-.

Loosen the wiring harness -4- from the mount on the washer fluid reservoir.

Open the clamp -6- -right arrow- and disconnect the fluid line -7- from the washer fluid pump.

Vehicles with headlamp washer system

Disconnect the electrical connector -3-.

Open the clamp -2- -left arrow- and disconnect the washer fluid line -1- from the pump for the headlamp washer system.

All Vehicles

Scheme 30

Remove bolt -3-.

Remove the nuts -1- and then remove the windshield washer fluid reservoir -2-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

1. Washer fluid hose must engage audibly into connection for washer fluid pump.

Install fog lamp. Refer to FOG LAMP, THROUGH 05.2008 .

Install the front section of the front right wheel housing liner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Install the washer fluid reservoir filler neck. Refer to WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR FILLER NECK .

Tightening Specifications

WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Drip tray

Removing

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Remove the front section of the front right wheel housing liner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove fog lamp. Refer to FOG LAMP, THROUGH 05.2008 .

Place a drip tray under the windshield washer fluid reservoir.

Disconnect the electrical connector -3-.

Scheme 31

Remove the windshield washer fluid level sensor -G33- -item 1- from the washer fluid reservoir -4-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Check the sealing grommet -2- for damage.

Install fog lamp. Refer to FOG LAMP, THROUGH 05.2008 .

Install the front section of the front right wheel housing liner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

REAR WINDOW WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR

Combine washer fluid reservoir for front and back windshield washer systems is located in the engine compartment.

Remove the washer fluid reservoir.

1. WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR

The shared windshield and headlamp washer system washer fluid reservoir is located in the engine compartment.

Remove the washer fluid reservoir. Vehicles without an auxiliary heater, refer to WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR, VEHICLES WITHOUT AUXILIARY HEATING , vehicles with an auxiliary heater, refer to WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR, VEHICLES WITH AUXILIARY HEATING

Remove the washer fluid reservoir. Refer to WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR, VEHICLES WITHOUT AUXILIARY HEATING .
