CONTACT CORROSION

Contact corrosion can occur if incorrect fasteners (bolts, nuts, washers, etc.) are used.

For this reason, only fasteners with a special surface coating are used.

In addition, rubber or plastic parts and adhesive consist of non-conductive materials.

If there are doubts as to whether parts are suitable or not, use new parts.

Note. We only recommend original replacement parts, they have been tested and are compatible with aluminum. We recommend using Audi accessories. Damage resulting from contact corrosion is not covered by warranty.

Note. All warning lamps in instrument cluster are fitted with light-emitting diodes. Instrument cluster must be replaced in the event of warning lamp failure.

The fuel level sensor -G- is located under the right side of the rear seat bench.

Remove rear seat bench. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Unclip right locking flange cover retaining tabs -arrows-.

Carefully release and disconnect the connector -arrow- on the connector flange.

Note. On vehicles with FSI/TFSI engines, the fuel level signal travels from the fuel level sensor through the fuel pump control module.

The fuel pump control module is located under the rear seat bench on the right side under the cover for the connector flange.

The fuel level sensor 2 -G169- is at the left under the rear seat bench.

Remove rear seat bench. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Unclip left locking flange cover retaining tabs -arrows-.

Carefully release and disconnect the connector -1- on the connector flange.

Note. Disregard item -2-.

Note. Do not disassemble instrument cluster.

Removing

If the instrument cluster was replaced with the instrument cluster control module -J285-, select the Replace function for the corresponding control module in the Guided Fault Finding or Guided Functions operating mode.

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Note. It is not necessary to remove the steering wheel in order to remove the instrument cluster.

Remove the steering wheel and adjustment mechanism completely and lay it down.

Remove gap cover -1- in -direction of arrow-.

Place gap cover on upper steering column trim.

Remove screws -arrows-.

Pull instrument cluster out until it lies on steering wheel.

Release catches of connectors -1-, turn retainer in -direction of arrow- and disconnect the connector.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Removing

Remove front bumper cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Disconnect the electrical connector -2-.

Carefully press the retaining clips together -arrow- and remove the outside air temperature sensor -G17- -item 1- upward from the bracket.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

RADIO FREQUENCY CONTROLLED CLOCK RECEIVER

Disconnect the connector on the radio frequency controlled clock receiver -J489- -item 1-.

Remove screws -2- and remove radio frequency controlled clock receiver.

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following

CIGARETTE LIGHTER OUTLET WITHOUT FUNCTION SELECTOR SWITCH II

  1. Release tool T40148

Removing

The release tabs -2- on the release tool T40148 must engage in the openings in the cigarette lighter/ 12V outlet -3- -arrow- and the threaded pin -1- must slide down as far as the stop.

If equipped, open the cover -1- and hold it in this position.

Insert the T40148 all the way into the cigarette lighter/12V outlet.

Rotate the thumbwheel -2- on the T40148 clockwise as far as the stop.

  1. The piston -2- is pulled upward and the release tabs -1- on the T40148 spread -arrows-.

Remove the cigarette lighter/12V outlet using the T40148 from the cigarette lighter illumination -L28-.

Disconnect the electrical connector.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

CAUTIONRisk of injury. After removing the release tool T40148, check to see if the lighter retaining tabs are bent. If the retaining tabs are bend, bend them back so the lighter does not slide out.

Remove the support -1- on the T40148.

Slide the piston down and hold it in place.

Rotate the thumbwheel -4- on the T40148 counterclockwise -arrow-. This loosens the release tabs -2- on the cigarette lighter -3- so the T40148 can be removed.

CIGARETTE LIGHTER OUTLET WITH FUNCTION SELECTOR SWITCH II

Removing

Remove center console. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the Function Selector Switch II -E272-. Refer to FUNCTION SELECTOR SWITCH II .

Remove screws -arrows-.

Remove the cigarette lighter and bracket from the center console by moving the bracket downward.

The release tabs -2- on the release tool T40148 must engage in the openings in the cigarette lighter/ 12V outlet -3- -arrow- and the threaded pin -1- must slide down as far as the stop.

If equipped, open the cover -1- and hold it in this position.

Insert the T40148 all the way into the cigarette lighter/12V outlet.

Rotate the thumbwheel -2- on the T40148 clockwise as far as the stop.

  1. The piston -2- is pulled upward and the release tabs -1- on the T40148 spread -arrows-.

Remove the cigarette lighter/12V outlet using the T40148 from the cigarette lighter illumination -L28-.

Disconnect the electrical connector.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

CAUTIONRisk of injury. After removing the release tool T40148, check to see if the lighter retaining tabs are bent. If the retaining tabs are bend, bend them back so the lighter does not slide out.

Remove the support -1- on the T40148.

Slide the piston down and hold it in place.

Rotate the thumbwheel -4- on the T40148 counterclockwise -arrow-. This loosens the release tabs -2- on the cigarette lighter -3- so the T40148 can be removed.

Install the Function Selector Switch II -E272-. Refer to FUNCTION SELECTOR SWITCH II .

Install center console. Refer to Removal and Installation .

CIGARETTE LIGHTER ILLUMINATION

Remove the cigarette lighter/12V outlet. Vehicles without function selector switch 2 -E272-, refer to CIGARETTE LIGHTER OUTLET WITHOUT FUNCTION SELECTOR SWITCH II , vehicles with function selector switch 2, refer to CIGARETTE LIGHTER OUTLET WITH FUNCTION SELECTOR SWITCH II .

Release the retaining clips -arrows-.

Remove the illumination ring -1- with the cigarette lighter illumination bulb -L28- from the center console storage compartment -2-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Slide the lighted ring into mount until retaining clips engage.

  1. The illumination ring can only be inserted in the mount in one position.

Install the cigarette lighter/12V outlet. Vehicles without function selector switch 2, refer to CIGARETTE LIGHTER OUTLET WITHOUT FUNCTION SELECTOR SWITCH II , vehicles with function selector switch 2, refer to CIGARETTE LIGHTER OUTLET WITH FUNCTION SELECTOR SWITCH II .

CIGARETTE LIGHTER MOUNT AND 12V OUTLET

  1. Pry lever 80-200

Open the sun blind -2-.

Pry the mount -1- with Pry Lever 80-200 out of the center console.

Unplug connectors.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Note. The back side of the mount must be installed first in the drive direction into the center console.

Remove the air inlet grilled form the fog lamp housing and unhook the retaining tab on the bumper.

Reach into the opening -arrow A- remove the lower air inlet grille -1- from the bumper -arrow B-.

Remove the nut -5-.

Removing

Reach into the opening -arrow A- remove the lower air inlet grille -1- from the bumper -arrow B-.

Disconnect the electrical connectors -1- and -6-.

Remove the screws -4- and -5-.

Remove the bracket -3- and the high tone horn -H2- / -H7-.
