COOLANT TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHT
If light comes on while driving, it indicates that the engine may be overheating due to low coolant level. Stop all vehicle operations and allow engine to cool before checking engine compartment. Have the system checked and serviced as necessary.
OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT
Light indicates low oil pressure, but does not indicate amount of oil in engine. Light is designed to come on with ignition switch in the "ON" position as a bulb check, but should go out shortly after engine is started. If light remains on or comes on while driving, have the system checked promptly. Do not operate vehicle until cause is located and corrected.
ALTERNATOR WARNING LIGHT
Light comes on with the ignition switch in the "ON" position as a bulb check and goes out after engine is started. If light remains on or comes on while driving, it indicates a possible malfunction in the electrical system or the V-belt (alternator driving belt) may be loose or broken. Stop all operations on vehicle and have the system checked and serviced immediately.
"ANTI-LOCK OFF" WARNING LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)
Light is designed to come on with the ignition switch in the "ON" position and should go out shortly after engine is started. On 5000 Quattro, the warning light goes out only when the differential lock is disengaged. If light remains on or comes on while driving with unlocked differential (5000 Quattro) and ABS switch in the "ON" position, it indicates a potential problem in the system and should be inspected as soon as possible. The regular braking system will still operate normally but without anti-lock function.
"BRAKE"/"PARKING BRAKE" WARNING LIGHT
This light is designed to come on with the ignition switch in the "ON" position as a bulb check and should go out after engine is started and the parking brake fully released. If light does not come on as designed or comes on at any other time, it indicates a potential problem in the electronic and/or braking system. Have the system inspected and serviced immediately, continued operation of vehicle in this condition is dangerous.
OXYGEN SENSOR "OXS" LIGHT
Light comes on when the ignition is turned on and goes out after engine is started. Light will come on (and remain on) every 30,000 miles as a maintenance service reminder for the emission control system.
ELECTRONIC IGNITION WARNING LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)
Light comes on when the ignition is turned on and goes out after engine is started. If it remains on or comes on while driving, it indicates a possible malfunction in the electronic ignition system or low fuel octane rating. Drive with reduced engine power, have the system checked and serviced promptly.
GLOW PLUG LIGHT (DIESEL ENGINE)
Light comes on with the ignition switch in the "ON" position and it will remain on until the glow plugs are preheated. Do not start engine until light has gone out. "Pre-glow" time will vary depending on temperature. It will take longer for the engine to preheat in the cold weather.
AUTO-CHECK SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)
This system consistently monitors certain functions & components of the vehicle. Should a malfunction occur in one of the systems being monitored, it will be audibly signaled as well as displayed by a Red (danger) or Yellow (warning) lights in the instrument cluster. If a Red blinking symbol appears (three warning tones will also sound), stop all vehicle operations and have the system checked and serviced immediately. Do not operate vehicle until cause is located and corrected. If a Yellow symbol appears (a single warning tone will also sound), have the malfunction being displayed corrected as soon as possible. The Red/Yellow lights will remain lit until the corresponding components have been properly serviced.
SYSTEM "OK" INDICATOR LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)
The "OK" light comes on when the ignition is turned on to indicate all systems are operating correctly.
STOP LIGHT INDICATOR (IF EQUIPPED)
Light indicates the wiring connections need servicing or the brake light bulbs and/or fuses need to be replaced.
WORN BRAKE PAD INDICATOR LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)
Light indicates the front and rear brake pads need to be checked and replaced as necessary.
HEADLIGHT/TAIL LIGHT INDICATOR (IF EQUIPPED)
If light comes on, it indicates that the electrical circuits need repairing or the light bulbs and/or fuses need replacing.
