  3. Remove the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/engine-control-systems/#electronic-throttle-control-system__throttle-body-removalinstallation) ).
  4. Clean off the carbon from the throttle valve and inside the throttle body with a paper towel soaked in throttle plate cleaner. NOTE: Remove the throttle body to clean it. Be careful not to pinch your fingers. To avoid removing the molybdenum coating, do not clean the bearing area of the throttle shaft (A). Do not spray throttle plate cleaner directly on the throttle body. Use Acura genuine throttle plate cleaner.
  5. Install the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/engine-control-systems/#electronic-throttle-control-system__throttle-body-removalinstallation) ).
  6. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  7. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
  8. Reset the PCM with the HDS.
  9. Select the ETCS TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.
  10. Select TP POSITION CHECK and clear the throttle position (TP) learned value.
  11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
  12. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and wait 2 seconds without pressing the accelerator pedal.
  13. Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/testing-diagnostics/#idle-control-system__pcm-idle-learn-procedure) ).

Throttle Body Removal/Installation

CAUTIONDo not insert your fingers into the installed throttle body when you turn the ignition switch to ON (II)/press the engine start/stop button, or while the ignition switch is in ON (II)/vehicle in ON mode. If you do, you will seriously injure your fingers if the throttle valve is activated.

  1. Make sure the ignition switch turned LOCK (0) or the engine start/stop button pressed to select OFF mode.
  2. Disconnect the MAP sensor connector (A).
  3. Remove the intake air duct (B).
  4. Disconnect the throttle body connector (C).
  5. Disconnect and plug the water bypass hoses (D), then remove the throttle body (E).
  6. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal with a new gasket (F). NOTE: When tightening the screw of the hose clamp (G), align the edge of the hose clamp (H) with the painted mark (I). After installation, refill the radiator with engine coolant (see «COOLANT CHECK»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ). If it is in case of replacing or cleaning the throttle body, go to step 7. If it isn't, this procedure is complete.
  7. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  8. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
  9. Reset the PCM with the HDS.
  10. Select the ETCS TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.
  11. Select TP POSITION CHECK and clear the throttle position (TP) learned value.
  12. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
  13. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and wait 2 seconds without pressing the accelerator pedal.
  14. Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/testing-diagnostics/#idle-control-system__pcm-idle-learn-procedure) ).

APP Sensor Signal Inspection

Note. This procedure checks the APP sensor in its fully closed position. In any other position, the APP sensor stores DTCs which are covered in other troubleshooting procedures. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS before doing this procedure. If any DTCs are indicated, troubleshoot them first, then do this procedure. Press the accelerator pedal several times to check its operation. If it does not operate smoothly, check the pedal. If you find a problem, replace the accelerator pedal module (see ACCELERATOR PEDAL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).

Scheme 64

Scheme 64: APP Sensor Signal Inspection
  1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
  3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM. If it doesn't, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting (see «DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/communication-devices/#communication-systems-f-can-k-line__dlc-circuit-troubleshooting) ).
  4. Make sure the accelerator pedal is not pressed, then check the APP SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS. If it is 0 %, the APP sensor is OK. If it is not 0 %, reconnect all connectors, then update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «PCM UPDATE»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system__pcm-update) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/testing-diagnostics/#fuel-and-emissions-systems__substituting-the-pcm) ), then go to step 5.
  5. Make sure the accelerator pedal is not pressed, then check the APP SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS. If it is 0 %, the APP sensor is OK. If it is not 0 %, replace the accelerator pedal module (see «ACCELERATOR PEDAL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/zdx/i-2009-2013/remont/engine-control-systems/#electronic-throttle-control-system) ), then go to step 1 .
