Key Interlock System Circuit Troubleshooting

- Check the A/T system DTCs with the HDS. Are DTCs P0705 and/or P0706 indicated? YES -Go to DTC troubleshooting P0705 (see «DTC P0705: SHORT IN TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH CIRCUIT (MULTIPLE SHIFT-POSITION INPUT)»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission-4-cyl) ), P0706 (see «DTC P0706: OPEN IN TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH CIRCUIT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission-4-cyl) ). NO -Go to step 2.
- Move the shift lever to P and set the parking brake.
- Remove the column covers (see «COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#dashboard-4-cyl__column-cover-removalinstallation) ).
- Disconnect the steering lock 6P connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to ACCESSORY (I).
- Check if the ignition switch can be turned to LOCK (0). Can the ignition switch be turned to LOCK (0)? YES -Go to step 7. NO -Replace the ignition key cylinder/steering lock (see «STEERING LOCK REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/manual-power-steering/#steering-4-cyl) ).
- Check the No. 18 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box. Is the fuse OK? YES -Go to step 8. NO -Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. 18 (7.5A) fuse circuit.
- Make sure the ignition switch is turned to LOCK (0).
- Disconnect driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector Q (20P).
- Check for continuity between steering lock 6P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the key interlock solenoid and the driver's MICU. NO -Go to step 11.
- Check for continuity between driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector Q (20P) terminal No. 14 and steering lock 6P connector terminal No. 3. Is there continuity? YES -Go to step 12. NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the key interlock solenoid and the driver's MICU.
- Move the shift lever to P.
- Remove the center console (see «CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#consoles-4-cyl__center-console-removalinstallation) ).
- Disconnect the shift lever 12P connector.
- Do the park pin switch test (see «KEY INTERLOCK SOLENOID TEST»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/steering-column-switches/#ignition-switch-4-cyl__key-interlock-solenoid-test) ). Is the switch OK? YES -Go to step 16. NO -Check the park pin switch installation. If the switch installation is OK, the park pin switch is faulty. Replace the A/T gear position indicator panel light/park pin switch (see «A/T GEAR POSITION INDICATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission-4-cyl) ), and retest.
- Check for continuity between A/T gear position indicator panel light/park pin switch 6P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair a short to body ground in the wire between A/T gear position indicator panel light/park pin switch 6P connector terminal No. 1 and the driver's MICU. NO -Go to step 17.
- Check for continuity between A/T gear position indicator panel light/park pin switch 6P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Go to step 18. NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between shift lever and body ground (G503).
- Check the A/T system Data List with the HDS. Is the transmission range switch indicated ON when the shift lever is in P, and is the transmission range switch indicated OFF when the shift lever is shifted to any position other than P? YES -Go to step 20 . NO -Go to step 19.
- Do the transmission range switch test (see «TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH TEST»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission-4-cyl) ). Is the switch OK? YES -Go to step 20. NO -Check the transmission range switch installation. If the switch installation is OK, replace the transmission range switch (see «TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission-4-cyl) ), and retest.
- Disconnect the transmission range switch 10P connector.
- Check for continuity between driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector F (33P) terminal No. 4 and transmission range switch 10P connector terminal No. 2. Is there continuity? YES -Go to step 22. NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the transmission range switch.
- Check for continuity between transmission range switch 10P connector terminal No. 5 and body ground.

Is there continuity?
YES -Faulty driver's MICU; replace the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box, USA models (see DRIVER'S UNDER-DASH FUSE/RELAY BOX (MICU) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ), Canada models (see SPECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED ).
NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the ground wire or poor ground (G101).

- Remove these items: Lower steering column cover (see «COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#dashboard-4-cyl__column-cover-removalinstallation) ) Driver's dashboard lower cover (see «DRIVER'S DASHBOARD LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#dashboard-4-cyl__drivers-dashboard-lower-cover-removalinstallation) )
- Disconnect the steering lock 6P connector (A).
- Insert the ignition key in the key cylinder, then turn the ignition key to ACCESSORY (I).
- Connect the positive battery terminal to steering lock assembly connector terminal No. 4, and connect the negative battery terminal to terminal No. 3. Check that the ignition key cannot be turned to LOCK (0). Release the battery terminals, and check that the key can be turned to the LOCK (0) position and removed from the cylinder.
- If the key interlock solenoid works improperly, replace the ignition key cylinder/steering lock (see «STEERING LOCK REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/manual-power-steering/#steering-4-cyl) ).
- Install these items: Lower steering column cover (see «COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#dashboard-4-cyl__column-cover-removalinstallation) ) Driver's dashboard lower cover (see «DRIVER'S DASHBOARD LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#dashboard-4-cyl__drivers-dashboard-lower-cover-removalinstallation) )

- Remove the center console (see «CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#consoles-4-cyl__center-console-removalinstallation) ).
- Disconnect the A/T gear position indicator panel light/park pin switch 6P connector (A) from the park pin switch (B).
- Check for continuity between connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2. There should be continuity when the shift lever is moved out of P. There should be no continuity when the shift lever is moved to P.
- If the park pin switch tests OK, go to step 5. If the park pin switch fails the test, replace the park pin switch (see «PARK PIN SWITCH REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission-4-cyl) ).
- Install the center console (see «CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#consoles-4-cyl__center-console-removalinstallation) ).

- Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/body-electrical/#battery-4-cyl) ).
- Remove the steering column covers (see «COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#dashboard-4-cyl__column-cover-removalinstallation) ).
- Disconnect the 5P connector (A) from the ignition switch (B).
- Check for continuity between the terminals in each switch position according to the table.
- If the continuity is not as specified, replace the ignition switch (see «IGNITION SWITCH TEST»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/steering-column-switches/#ignition-switch-4-cyl__ignition-switch-test) ).
- Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/body-electrical/#battery-4-cyl__battery-removal-and-installation) ).
Ignition Switch Replacement

- Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/body-electrical/#battery-4-cyl) ).
- Remove the steering column covers (see «COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#dashboard-4-cyl__column-cover-removalinstallation) ).
- Disconnect the 5P connector (A) from the ignition switch (B).
- Remove the two screws and the ignition switch.
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
- Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/body-electrical/#battery-4-cyl__battery-removal-and-installation) ).
