Note. Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces. To avoid damaging the wiring and terminals, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion. Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection. Also, be sure that they do not contact other wiring or hoses, or interfere with other parts.

Disconnect the support struts from both sides of the pivot ball (bolted to the hood). Secure the hood in a vertical position. Install the right side pivot ball into the lower threaded hole. NOTE: Do not attempt to close the hood with the support strut in the vertical position, as it will damage the support strut and hood.
Relieve the fuel pressure (see «FUEL PRESSURE RELIEVING»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system__fuel-pressure-relieving) ).
Remove the engine compartment covers (see «ENGINE COMPARTMENT COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__engine-compartment-cover-replacement) ).
Remove the air intake duct splash separator.
Do the battery removal procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/body-electrical/#battery) ).
Remove the air cleaner (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/mechanical/#intake-air-system__throttle-body-cleaning) ).
Remove the harness clamp (A) from the battery base (B).
M/T model: Remove the harness clamps (C) from the battery base.
Remove the bolts (D), and loosen the bolt (E), then remove the battery base.
M/T model: Remove the harness clamp (A) and the ground cable (B), then disconnect the positive starter cable (C).
A/T model: Remove the harness clamps (A), then disconnect the positive starter cable (B).
Remove the strut brace (see «FRAME BRACE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/exterior-body-panels/#frame) ).
Disconnect the battery cable (A) from the under-hood fuse/relay box.
Remove the harness clamps (B).
Remove the harness clamp (A), then disconnect the harness connectors (B).
Remove the harness clamp (A), then disconnect the ECM/PCM connectors (B).
Remove the quick-connect fitting cover (A), then disconnect the fuel feed hose (B) (see «FUEL LINE/QUICK-CONNECT FITTING REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system) ).
Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose (A) and the EVAP canister hose (B).
M/T model: Remove the three bolts securing the shift cable holder, then remove the shift cable and the select cable (see step 23 under «TRANSMISSION REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/manual-trans/#manual-transmission__transmission-removal) ). Do not bend the cables excessively.
M/T model: Remove the clutch slave cylinder and the clutch line bracket mounting nut (see step 24 under «TRANSMISSION REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/manual-trans/#manual-transmission__transmission-removal) ). Do not operate the clutch pedal once the slave cylinder has been removed.
A/T model: Remove the shift cable (see «SHIFT CABLE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) ). Do not bend the shift cable excessively.
Remove the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/charging-system/#charging-system__drive-belt-replacement) ).
Disconnect the EPS connectors (A).
Remove the steering joint cover (A).
Loosen the upper steering joint bolt (B) and the lower steering bolt (C).
Center the steering wheel spokes, and install a commercially available steering wheel holder tool (A).
Remove the lower steering joint bolt (A). Disconnect the steering joint (B) by sliding the steering joint into the column shaft (C). Tighten the upper steering joint bolt (D) to hold the steering joint in place. NOTE: Do not disconnect the steering joint from the column shaft.
Remove the center guide (A) (if equipped) from the top of the pinion shaft (B), and discard it.
Wrap vinyl tape over the splines on the pinion shaft.
Wait until the engine is cool, then carefully remove the radiator cap.
Raise the vehicle on the lift.
Remove the front wheels.
Remove the front splash shield (see «FRONT SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell__front-splash-shield-replacement) ).
Loosen the drain plug in the radiator, and drain the engine coolant (see «COOLANT CHECK»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
Drain the transmission fluid: Manual transmission (see «TRANSMISSION FLUID INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/manual-trans/#manual-transmission__transmission-fluid-inspection-and-replacement) ) Automatic transmission (see «ATF REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission__atf-replacement) )
Drain the engine oil (see «ENGINE OIL LEVEL CHECK»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/lubrication-system/#engine-lubrication) ).
Remove the damper fork (see step 4 under «DAMPER/SPRING REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension) ).
Separate the tie-rod end ball joints from the knuckles (see step 13 under «RACK END REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/electronic-steering/#electronic-power-steering-eps-system) ).
Separate the knuckles from the suspension lower arms (see step 7 under «LOWER ARM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension__lower-arm-removalinstallation) ).
Remove the driveshafts (see «DRIVESHAFT INSPECTION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/axle-shafts/#drivelineaxle-tl__driveshaft-inspection) ). Coat all precision-finished surfaces with new engine oil. Tie plastic bags over the driveshaft ends.
Remove the front subframe stiffener.
Remove exhaust pipe A. With SH-AWD
With SH-AWD: Remove the propeller shaft (see «PROPELLER SHAFT REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/axle-shafts/#drivelineaxle-tl) ).
With SH-AWD: Remove the transfer assembly: Manual transmission (see «TRANSFER ASSEMBLY FLUID INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/manual-trans/#manual-transmission) ) Automatic transmission (see «TRANSFER ASSEMBLY REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) )
A/T model: Disconnect the ATF cooler hoses from the transmission, then plug the ATF cooler hoses and the lines (see step 44 under «TRANSMISSION REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission__transmission-removal) ).
Lower the vehicle on the lift.
Disconnect the upper radiator hose (A) and the lower radiator hose (B).
Disconnect the heater hoses.
Remove the radiator (see «RADIATOR REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
Disconnect the A/C compressor clutch connector (A), and remove the harness clamp (B).
Remove the A/C compressor without disconnecting the A/C hoses. Do not bend the A/C hoses excessively. NOTE: Hang the A/C compressor with a wire tie.
Remove the bolt (A) securing the connector bracket (B) from the front cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole (C) to attach the engine hanger balance bar front arm.
Remove the harness clamp (A), then remove the bolt (B) securing the engine mount control solenoid valve bracket (C) from the rear cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole (D) to attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm.
A/T model: Disconnect the vacuum hose (E).
Install the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019). Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with a 10 mm (0.39 in) spacer (B) and a 10 x 1.25 mm bolt (C). Remove the rear arm from the engine hanger balance bar, then install the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033). Attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm to the rear cylinder head with a 10 mm (0.39 in) spacer (D) and an 8 x 1.25 mm bolt (E).
Install the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) onto the vehicle as shown, and attach the hook to the slotted hole in the engine hanger balance bar. Tighten the wing nut (F) by hand, and lift and support the engine/transmission. NOTE: Be careful when working around the windshield. AAR-T1256 two sets required for stacking two cross section bars.
M/T model: Remove the front engine mount (see «FRONT ENGINE MOUNT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/mechanical/#engine-assembly) ).
A/T model: Disconnect the vacuum hose (A) and remove the front engine mount stop (B), then remove the front engine mount bolt (C).
M/T model: Remove the rear engine mount bolt (A).
A/T model: Remove the rear engine mount stop (A), then remove the rear engine mount bolt (B).
Raise the vehicle on the lift.
Loosen the subframe middle mount bolts.
Remove the lower transmission mount nuts (A).
A/T model: Remove the ground cable (B).
Attach the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) to the front subframe by looping the belt (A) over the front of the subframe (B), then secure the belt with its stop (C).
Raise the transmission jack and line up the slots in the subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts.
Remove the four 12 x 1.25 mm bolts (A) securing the subframe stiffeners (B), the four subframe mounting bolts (C), and the stiffeners, then lower the front subframe (D).
Lower the vehicle on the lift.
Attach a chain hoist (A) to the engine hanger (B) and the transmission hanger (C), then lift the engine/transmission until it's securely supported by the chain hoist and remove the engine support hanger, the engine hanger balance bar, and the 2008 V6 attachment arm.
Remove the mounting bolts from the upper half of the side engine mount bracket.
Remove the upper transmission mount bracket mounting bolts. NOTE: Do not remove the bolt (A) from the. upper transmission mount. If the bolt is removed, the upper transmission mount must be replaced as an assembly. M/T model A/T model
Check that the engine/transmission is completely free of the vacuum hoses, the fuel hoses, the coolant hoses, and the electrical wiring.
Slowly lower the engine/transmission about 150 mm (6 in). Check once again that all the hoses and the electrical wiring are disconnected and free from the engine/transmission, then lower it all the way and support it.
Disconnect the chain hoist from the engine/transmission.
Raise the vehicle, and remove the engine/transmission from under the vehicle.

Install the engine mount brackets and the accessory brackets and tighten their bolts to the specified torque.
Position the engine/transmission under the vehicle. Be sure that they are properly aligned. Carefully lower the vehicle until the engine/transmission are properly positioned in the engine compartment. Make sure the vehicle is not resting on any part of the engine/transmission. Support the engine/transmission with a chain hoist (A) and carefully raise the engine/transmission into place. NOTE: Reinstall the mounting bolts/support nuts in the sequence given in the following steps. Failure to follow this sequence may cause excessive noise and vibration, and reduce engine mount life.
Install the new mounting bolts into the upper half of the side engine mount bracket. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
Tighten the new upper transmission mount bracket mounting bolts to the specified torque. NOTE: If bolt (A) was removed by mistake during removal, the upper transmission mount bracket must be replaced as an assembly. M/T model A/T model
Install the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019). Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with a 10 mm (0.39 in) spacer (B) and a 10 x 1.25 mm bolt (C). Remove the rear arm from the engine hanger balance bar, then install the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033). Attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm to the rear cylinder head with a 10 mm (0.39 in) spacer (D) and an 8 x 1.25 mm bolt (E).
Install the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) onto the vehicle as shown, and attach the hook to the slotted hole in the engine hanger balance bar. Tighten the wing nut (F) by hand, and lift and support the engine/transmission. NOTE: Be careful when working around the windshield. AAR-T1256 two sets required for stacking additional cross section bar.
Remove the chain hoist, then raise the vehicle on the lift.
Attach the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) to the subframe by looping the belt (A) over the front of the front subframe (B), then secure the belt with its stop (C).
Line up the slots in the subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts, then raise the front subframe up to the body.
Loosely install the new subframe mounting bolts (four) (A), the 12 x 1.25 mm bolts (two) (B), the new 12 x 1.25 mm (two) (C), and the stiffeners (D).
Align the front subframe with the subframe alignment pin (see «FRONT SUBFRAME ALIGNMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/exterior-body-panels/#frame) ).
Remove the transmission jack and the front subframe adapter.
Tighten the bolts securing the subframe middle mount.
Tighten the lower transmission mount nuts (A).
A/T model: Install the ground cable (B).
Lower the vehicle on the lift.
Remove the engine support hanger, the engine hanger balance bar, and the 2008 V6 attachment arm.
M/T model: Install the front engine mount (see «FRONT ENGINE MOUNT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/mechanical/#engine-assembly) ).
A/T model: Tighten the new front engine mount bolt (A), then install the front engine mount stop (B) and connect the vacuum hose (C).
M/T model: Tighten the new rear engine mount bolt.
A/T model: Tighten the new rear engine mount bolt (A), then install the rear engine mount stop (B) using new nuts (C).
Loosen the mounting bolts for the upper half of the side engine mount bracket, then retighten them in the numbered sequence shown.
Loosen the mounting bolts for the upper transmission mount bracket, then retighten them to the specified torque. M/T model A/T model
Install the connector bracket to the front cylinder head.
Install the engine mount control solenoid valve bracket to the rear cylinder head, then install the harness clamp (A).
A/T model: Connect the vacuum hose (B).
Install the A/C compressor, then install the harness clamp (A) and connect the A/C compressor clutch connector (B).
Install the radiator (see «RADIATOR REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
Connect the heater hoses (A).
Connect the upper radiator hose (A) and the lower radiator hose (B).
Raise the vehicle on the lift.
A/T model: Connect the ATF cooler hoses to the transmission (see step 30 under «TRANSMISSION INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission__transmission-installation) ).
With SH-AWD: Install the transfer assembly: Manual transmission (see «TRANSFER ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/manual-trans/#manual-transmission) ) Automatic transmission (see «TRANSFER ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) )
With SH-AWD: Install the propeller shaft (see «PROPELLER SHAFT INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/axle-shafts/#drivelineaxle-tl) ).
Install exhaust pipe A using new gaskets (6) and new self-locking nuts (C).
Install the front subframe stiffener (A) using new bolts (B).
Install a new set ring on the end of each driveshaft, then install the driveshafts (see «FRONT DRIVESHAFT INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/axle-shafts/#drivelineaxle-tl__front-driveshaft-installation) ). Make sure each ring "clicks" into place in the differential and the intermediate shaft.
Connect the suspension lower arm to the knuckles (see step 7 under «LOWER ARM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension__lower-arm-removalinstallation) ).
Connect the tie-rod end ball joints to the knuckles (see step 42 under «STEERING GEARBOX REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/electronic-steering/#electronic-power-steering-eps-system__steering-gearbox-removal-and-installation) ).
Install the damper fork (see step 4 under «DAMPER/SPRING REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension) ).
Install the front splash shield (see «FRONT SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell__front-splash-shield-replacement) ).
Install the front wheels.
Lower the vehicle on the lift.
Loosen the upper steering joint bolt (A), and slip the lower end of the steering joint (B) onto the pinion shaft (C).
Align the bolt hole (D) on the steering joint with the groove (E) around the pinion shaft, then loosely install the lower steering joint bolt (F). Be sure that the joint bolt is securely in the groove in the pinion shaft.
Remove the steering wheel holder tool (A).
Tighten the upper and lower steering joint bolts (A) to the specified torque.
Install the steering joint cover (B).
Install the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/charging-system/#charging-system__drive-belt-replacement) ).
Connect the EPS connectors (A).
A/T model: Install the shift cable (see «SHIFT CABLE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) ).
M/T model: Install the clutch slave cylinder and the clutch line bracket mounting bolt (see step 49 under «TRANSMISSION INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/manual-trans/#manual-transmission__transmission-installation) ).
M/T model: Install the shift cable and the select cable, then tighten the three bolts securing the shift cable holder (see step 50 under «TRANSMISSION INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/manual-trans/#manual-transmission__transmission-installation) ).
Connect the brake booster vacuum hose (A) and the EVAP canister hose (B).
Connect the fuel feed hose (A), then install the quick-connect fitting cover (B) (see «FUEL LINE/QUICK-CONNECT FITTING INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system) ).
Connect the ECM/PCM connectors (A), then install the harness clamp (B).
Connect the harness connectors (A), then install the harness clamp (B).
Install the harness clamps (A).
Connect the battery cable (B) to the under-hood fuse/relay box.
Install the strut brace (see «FRAME BRACE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/exterior-body-panels/#frame) ).
M/T model: Connect the positive starter cable (A), then install the harness clamp (B). Make sure the crimped side of the ring terminal face away from the starter when you connect it.
M/T model: Install the ground cable (C).
A/T model: Connect the positive starter cable (A), then install the harness clamps (B). Make sure the crimped side of the ring terminal face away from the starter when you connect it.
Install the battery base (A), then install the harness clamp (B).
M/T model: Install the harness clamps (C).
Install the air cleaner (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/mechanical/#intake-air-system__throttle-body-cleaning) ).
Do the battery installation procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/body-electrical/#battery) ).
Install the air intake duct splash separator.
Inspect for fuel leaks. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode (do not operate the starter) so the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds and pressurizes the fuel line. Repeat this operation three times, then check for fuel leaks at any point in the fuel line.
Refill the engine with engine oil (see «ENGINE OIL LEVEL CHECK»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/lubrication-system/#engine-lubrication) ).
Refill the transmission with fluid: Manual transmission (see «TRANSMISSION FLUID INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/manual-trans/#manual-transmission__transmission-fluid-inspection-and-replacement) ) Automatic transmission (see «ATF REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission__atf-replacement) )
M/T model: Check that the transmission shifts into all gears smoothly.
A/T model: Move the shift lever to each gear, and verify that the A/T gear position indicator follows the transmission range switch.
Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed the air from the cooling system (see «COOLANT CHECK»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
Check for fluid leaks.
Do the ECM/PCM reset procedure (see «HDS CLEAR COMMAND»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#fuel-and-emissions-systems__hds-clear-command) ).
Do the CKP pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure (see «CKP PATTERN CLEAR/CKP PATTERN LEARN»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#fuel-and-emissions-systems) ).
Inspect the idle speed (see «IDLE SPEED INSPECTION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/testing-diagnostics/#idle-control-system__idle-speed-inspection) ).
Inspect the ignition timing (see «IGNITION TIMING INSPECTION»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/ignition-system/#ignition-system) ).
Install the engine compartment covers (see «ENGINE COMPARTMENT COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__engine-compartment-cover-replacement) ).
Check the wheel alignment (see «WHEEL ALIGNMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/wheel-alignment/#front-and-rear-suspension-inspection__wheel-alignment) ).

Remove the engine compartment covers (see «ENGINE COMPARTMENT COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2011-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__engine-compartment-cover-replacement) ).
Lift and support the engine with a jack and a wood block under the oil pan.
Remove the ground cable (A), then remove the upper half of the side engine mount bracket (B).
Remove the side engine mount.

Install the side engine mount using new bolts.
Loosely install the upper half of the side engine mount bracket (A) using new bolts.
Remove the jack and the wood block.
Tighten the bolts in the numbered sequence shown.
Install the ground cable (B).
