RIDING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT

Note. Prior to performing riding height adjustments, perform preliminary visual and mechanical inspection of wheels, tires and suspension components. See PRE-ALIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS in WHEEL ALIGNMENT THEORY & OPERATION article in GENERAL INFORMATION.

Hombre

  1. To check front riding height, lift front bumper up about 1.5" (38 mm), gently release and let vehicle settle on its own. Repeat 2 more times. Measure front riding height dimension "Z" between center of front lower control arm bolt and lower inboard corner of lower ball joint. (Scheme 1) Record measurement.
  2. Push front bumper down about 1.5" (38 mm), gently release and let vehicle rise on its own. Repeat 2 more times. Measure dimension "Z" once more. Average of high and low measurements is true "Z" measurement. Ensure front riding height is within specification. See «RIDING HEIGHT SPECIFICATIONS (HOMBRE)»(/acura/slx/i-1995-1999/remont/wheel-alignment/#specifications-procedures) table.
  3. To check rear riding height, jounce rear of vehicle at least 3 times and let settle. Measure rear riding height dimension "D" between rubber bumper bracket and top of rear axle housing tube. (Scheme 2) Ensure rear riding height is within specification. See «RIDING HEIGHT SPECIFICATIONS (HOMBRE)»(/acura/slx/i-1995-1999/remont/wheel-alignment/#specifications-procedures) table.
  4. Riding height is not adjustable. If out of specifications, inspect suspension components for damage or wear. Replace components as necessary and recheck.
ApplicationIn. (mm)
Front "Z"2.638-3.110 (67-79)
Rear "D"5.197-6.378 (132-162)

Amigo, Rodeo & Trooper

  1. To measure front riding height, jounce vehicle several times and allow suspension to settle. Obtain dimension "Z" by subtracting dimension "B" from dimension "A". (Scheme 3) Dimension "Z" is true front riding height.
  2. Ensure front and rear riding height is within specifications. See «RIDING HEIGHT SPECIFICATIONS (AMIGO»(/acura/slx/i-1995-1999/remont/wheel-alignment/#specifications-procedures), RODEO & TROOPER) table. If front riding height is not within specifications, adjust height control arms by turning adjusting bolts. Rear riding height is not adjustable.

EMERGENCY JACKING

When changing front tire, position jack under front crossmember. Position jack under rear axle housing, near wheel, when changing rear tire.

HOIST

See FLOOR JACK.

WHEEL ALIGNMENT PROCEDURES

Note. Prior to performing wheel alignment procedures, check riding height. Riding height must be checked with vehicle on level floor and tires properly inflated. Visually inspect vehicle for signs of abnormal height difference from front to rear or side to side. Check passenger and luggage compartments for extra heavy items, and remove them, if present. See RIDING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT .

CAMBER ADJUSTMENT

Adjust camber by inserting or removing equal shim thickness from both pivot bolts between upper control arm pivot shaft and frame. (Scheme 6)

Scheme 6

Scheme 6: CAMBER ADJUSTMENT

CASTER ADJUSTMENT

Adjust caster by inserting or removing shims between upper control arm pivot shaft and frame. (Scheme 6)

TOE-IN ADJUSTMENT

Adjust toe-in by turning tie rod and/or sleeves.
