DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
Mirror positions can be adjusted with ignition switch in ON or ACC position. Using mirror control switch, driver-side mirror or passenger-side mirror can be adjusted. Each mirror assembly contains a motor to allow horizontal and vertical adjustment of mirror angles. Some models are equipped with an electrically-heated mirror defogger, which will only operate with ignition in ON position.
Mirrors have power folding feature. When activated, this folding feature rotates mirror assemblies inward, to prevent mirror damage in tight situations. When folding switch is deactivated, mirror assemblies will return to previously set positions.

MIRROR CONTROL PANEL SWITCHES
Turn ignition off. Remove mirror control panel from center console. Mirror control panel contains mirror control switch, defogger switch and folding switch. (Scheme 1) Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between specified terminals for each switch while operating switch in specified positions. (Scheme 2) Replace any switch that does not test as specified.

POWER MIRROR MOTOR
Turn ignition off. Disconnect mirror motor connector. Test power mirror motors by applying battery voltage and ground to specified terminals of mirror motor terminals. See POWER MIRROR MOTOR TEST table. (Scheme 3) If power mirror does not operate as specified positions, replace mirror assembly.

MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH CIRCUIT TEST
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect mirror switch connector. Using an ohmmeter, connect negative lead to terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire) of mirror control switch harness connector. With ohmmeter positive lead, check for continuity at terminals No. 5, 7, 8 and 10. (Scheme 4) If continuity exists at each terminal, go to step 3). If continuity does not exist at one or all terminals, go to next step.
- If continuity does not exist at terminals No. 5, 7, 8 and 10, locate and repair open in Black/White wire. (Scheme 4) If continuity does not exist at only one terminal, check related circuit to each mirror assembly. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/acura/slx/i-1995-1999/remont/mirrors/#mirrors-power). If circuit is okay, check for faulty mirror motor. Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition switch to ACC position. Using a voltmeter, check for voltage between ground and terminal No. 4 (Orange/Green wire). (Scheme 4) If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check AUDIO/MIRROR (10-amp) fuse in interior fuse block. If fuse is okay, locate and repair open in Orange/Green wire.
- Turn ignition off. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire) and ground. (Scheme 4) If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Black/White wire between mirror control switch and each mirror assembly.
- Check for continuity between mirror switch harness connector terminal No. 9 (Black wire) and ground. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire between mirror control switch and ground.
Scheme 4
DEFOGGER SWITCH CIRCUIT TEST
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect defogger switch harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, check between ground and terminal No. 4 (Blue/White wire). (Scheme 5) If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check ELEC-IGN (10-amp) fuse. If fuse is okay, check for an open or short in Blue/White wire. Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition off. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between ground and terminal No. 5 (Pink/White wire). (Scheme 5) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, check for an open Pink/White wire between connector and both mirror assemblies. If Pink/White wire is okay, check for faulty heating element in mirror assembly.
- Check for continuity between ground and terminal No. 3 (Black wire). (Scheme 5) If continuity does not exist, locate and repair open in Black wire. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/acura/slx/i-1995-1999/remont/mirrors/#mirrors-power).
Scheme 5
FOLDING SWITCH CIRCUIT TEST
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect folding switch connector. Turn ignition to ACC position. Using a voltmeter, check for voltage at terminal No. 6 (Orange/Green wire) of harness connector. (Scheme 6) If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check AUDIO/MIRROR (10-amp) fuse of interior fuse box. If fuse is okay, locate and repair open in Orange/Green wire.
- Turn ignition off. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between terminal No. 4 (Gray/Green wire) and terminal No. 7 (Gray/Blue wire). (Scheme 6) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, check for an open in Gray/Green wire or Gray/Blue wire between connector and both mirror assemblies. If both circuits are okay, check for faulty mirror assembly. Repair or replace as necessary.
- Check for continuity to ground at terminal No. 5. Check for continuity to ground at terminal No. 8. (Scheme 6) If continuity does not exist at either or both terminals, locate and repair open in Black wire of related terminal.
Scheme 6
BOTH POWER MIRRORS INOPERATIVE
Check AUDIO/MIRROR (10-amp) fuse.
DEFOGGERS ON BOTH MIRRORS INOPERATIVE
Check ELEC-IGN (10-amp) fuse. If fuse is okay, check Defogger switch and wiring circuit.
FOLDING MECHANISM FOR BOTH MIRRORS INOPERATIVE
Check AUDIO/MIRROR (10-amp) fuse, folding switch and wiring circuit.
Removal & Installation
Insert a thin, flat-blade screwdriver between switch bezel and mounting surface. Release bezel lock and remove power mirror switch assembly. Disconnect electrical connectors. Remove power mirror switch. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Remove knobs and door panel. Remove mirror rim cover on inside of door. Remove screws and power mirror. Unplug harness connector. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to 69 INCH lbs. (8 N.m).
