Checking Before Installing
Flushing clean the oil cooler
When replacing the transmission, the oil cooler must always be flushed through because there may be particles in the oil cooler. See: Oil cooler, flush cleaning .
Scheme 656
Check that the transmission and engine mating surfaces are absolutely clean.
Also check that the guide sleeves towards the engine are in position and are free of faults.
Lubricate the holes in the transmission (for the guide pins). Use a little grease.
Note. This only applies if replacing the transmission.
Slacken off the bracket screws for the bevel gear - chain housing so that they can be moved slightly. The bracket is on the cylinder block.
Scheme 657
Adjust height and angle with the mobile jack and the transmission fixture.
Locate the transmission on the engine.
Ensure that the transmission goes straight in relation to the engine and that the torque converter is in the correct location.
Scheme 658
Ensure that the mating surfaces on the torque converter are clean. Ensure that the torque converter is as far into the transmission as possible. Check with a ruler that the distance between the cover and mounting lugs is approximately 14 mm.
Scheme 659
Install all 5 screws (apart from the screw for the bracket on the engine mounting) for the transmission / engine.
At the same time, check that the whole of the transmission is in contact with the engine.
Then tighten transmission / engine screws crosswise.
Remove the fixture from the transmission.
Install the 2 screws on the bracket at the cover for the differential housing.
Tighten.
Scheme 660
Install
- the bracket on the end of the transmission. Tighten
- the screw for the upper bracket. Tighten.
Tighten the screws for the bracket in the cylinder block: 4 x M10 and 1 x M8.
Scheme 661
Install
- the bevel gear - chain housing on the transmission. Lightly tighten the 2 M10 screws alternately. Tighten
- the bracket between the engine and the chain housing. Lightly tighten the 4 M10 screws to the cylinder block
- the 2 M10 screws to the chain housing - bracket. Tighten.
Tighten the 4 M10 screws for the bracket - cylinder block. Tighten.
