  1. Pry out with screwdriver
  2. Drive in flush with VW 423

37 - Breather cap

  1. Remove using pliers
  2. Drive onto stop with drift VW 460/2

Driving out

  1. Drive spring pin for engaging lever and spring pin for detent segment out only far enough to remove selector shaft.

Note. Spring pin of engaging lever may drop into planetary transmission if driven out further.

Driving in

  1. Drive in spring pins until flush after inserting selector shaft, engaging lever and detent segment.

Note. With valve body installed do not damage the conductor strip.

  1. Remove selector segment spring -A-.
  2. Remove screw with washer (arrow).

The washer prevents selector shaft movement.

  1. Lubricate bushing mounting before driving in.

Scheme 105: Removing and installing Multi-function TR switch -F125

Location: on rear of transmission

  1. Switch ignition off, open hood.
  2. Disconnect connector from multi-function TR switch.
  3. Remove bolt and retainer.
  4. Remove multi-function TR switch.
  1. Replace seal.

Installation is performed in the reverse order.

  1. Insert switch so that each pin rests on a slope of detent segment.
  2. Tighten bolt to10 Nm.

Scheme 106: Removing and installing Transmission vehicle speed sensor -G38

Location: sensor (arrow) is located on top of transmission

  1. Switch off ignition, open hood.
  2. Disconnect sensor connector.
  3. Remove bolt and pull sensor out.
  4. Replace seal.

Installation is performed in the reverse order.

  1. Tighten bolt to 10 Nm.

Location: sensor (arrow) is located on top of transmission

When the transmission is installed the sensor is covered by the left assembly mounting.

  1. Obtain radio code on vehicles with coded radio.
  2. With ignition switched off disconnect battery ground strap and remove battery.
  3. Remove air cleaner.

  1. Install support bar 10-222 A with legs 10-222 A/1 (6-cyl. engine adapter 10-222 A/3) and support engine/transmission in this position.
  2. Remove bracket for power steering pressure hose.

Note. Do not remove the bolts for the transmission carrier (arrows) until the transmission has been supported.

  1. Remove pendulum support (arrows).

Scheme 110

  1. Lower transmission approx. 60 mm -a-.
  2. Disconnect black connector from sensor.
  3. Remove bolt and pull sensor -1- out.
  4. Replace seal.

Installation is performed in the reverse order.

  1. Tighten bolt to 10 Nm.
