HEADLINER

CAUTIONPrior to working on the electrical system: disconnect the battery ground cable.

Removal

Note. Due to equipment variations, small deviations must be considered during removal and installation.

Remove the upper A-pillar trim. Refer to UPPER A-PILLAR TRIM ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW

Remove the upper inner door seals.

Pry out the vanity mirror light with a screwdriver and disconnect the electrical connections.

Remove sun visor -1- from bracket -2-.

Pry off cap -6-.

Remove bolt -5-.

Unhook sun visor mount -4- from the bracket and disconnect harness connector -3-.

Pry off caps -7-.

Remove bolts -8- and bracket -2-.

Pull off the rear edge of trim -1- (with clock) downward from the roof trim and disengage the trim at the front edge.

Disconnect harness connector -2- for the interior light (and clock).

Rotate interior rearview mirror -1- down at an angle -arrow- from the retaining plate (spring clip in mirror base).

Vehicles with eyeglass compartment above the windshield (on the headliner)

Open the eyeglass compartment and disconnect cover -2- -arrow-.

Remove the eyeglass compartment insert in the vehicle interior.

Remove the bolts -1- and -3-.

Remove the eyeglass compartment from the headliner.

Vehicles with eyeglass compartment on the driver side (on the headliner)

Open eyeglass compartment -1- in a downward direction.

Pry off cover -2- using a screwdriver and fold up.

Remove screws -3- and remove eyeglass compartment -1-.

Vehicles with sunroof

Disconnect trim -1- in the -direction of the arrow- and remove.

Remove bolts -1- and carefully disconnect the retaining frame engagement hooks -arrows- of the automatic preselector.

Disconnect the harness connector -arrow-.

Fold grab handle -1- downward.

Pry off cover -2- using a screwdriver and fold up.

Remove screws -3- and remove handle -1-.

Disconnect cover strip -1-.

Models without an interior monitor

Remove the interior lights and disconnect the electrical connections.

Removing the reading lamp with the interior monitor

Using removal tool -1-, press spring for reading light -2- toward rear.

Remove reading lamp -3- and disconnect the harness connector.

Note. When pressing in spring -2- with release tool -1-, the release tool may not be inserted between headliner -4- and metal frame -5- in the headliner.

Vehicles with sunroof

Disengage the headliner carefully at the front roof opening -arrows-.

Procedure for all vehicles

Pull headliner -1- downward at the front and swing forward below the windshield over B-pillar trim -2- -arrow-.

Lower headliner -1- together with second technician (caution: danger of breakage!) and remove from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation is the reverse of removal.

When sliding in roof trim -1-, the retaining tabs along the rear edge of the roof trim must be pushed into the brackets -arrows- at roof edge -2-.

On vehicles with sliding/tilting sunroof, headliner cutout must first be hooked into rear then into front roof cutout.

Note. After connecting the battery, the vehicle options (radio, clock, electric window regulator) must be checked according to repair information and/or user manual.
