ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

  1. INSPECT THROTTLE WITH MOTOR BODY ASSEMBLY Turn the ignition switch to ON without operating the accelerator pedal. NOTE: If the accelerator pedal is operated, perform the above steps again. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3 and clear the DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-394513-S17742279252011040800000) . Start the engine and check that the MIL is not illuminated and that the idle speed is within the specified range when the A/C is switched off after the engine is warmed up. Standard (for Automatic Transaxle) Condition Engine Idle Speed A/C switched off 650 to 750 rpm Standard (for Manual Transaxle) Condition Engine Idle Speed A/C switched off 550 to 650 rpm HINT: Be sure to perform this step with all accessories off. Make sure that the shift lever is in neutral. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Throttle Sensor Position. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and check that the value is 60% or more. Perform a road test and confirm that there are no abnormalities.

  3. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER NO. 2 . Refer to «REMOVAL - Step 2»(ref-394534-S35282352712011040800000)
  4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE NO. 1 Disconnect fuel vapor feed hose No. 1 and fuel vapor feed hose No. 2 from the vacuum switching valve assembly. Disconnect the vacuum switching valve assembly connector and wire harness clamp. Disconnect ventilation hose No. 2. Disconnect the wire harness clamp and mass air flow meter connector. Loosen the hose clamp, unlock the air cleaner assembly clamp and remove air cleaner cap sub-assembly with air cleaner hose No. 1.
  5. DISCONNECT WATER BY-PASS HOSE Disconnect the water by-pass hose.
  6. DISCONNECT WATER BY-PASS HOSE NO. 2 Disconnect water by-pass hose No. 2.
  7. REMOVE THROTTLE WITH MOTOR BODY ASSEMBLY Disconnect the throttle with motor body assembly connector. Remove the nut and remove the wire harness with bracket. Remove the 2 nuts and remove the water filler sub-assembly with hose. Remove the bolt and 3 nuts and remove the throttle with motor body assembly. Remove the gasket from the intake manifold.

  1. INSPECT THROTTLE WITH MOTOR BODY ASSEMBLY Check the resistance. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals. Standard resistance Tester Connection Specified Condition 1 (M-) - 2 (M+) 0.3 to 100 ohms at 20°C (68°F) If the result is not as specified, replace the throttle with motor body assembly.
  1. INSPECT ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Accel Sensor Out No. 1 and Accel Sensor Out No. 2. Read the value displayed on the Techstream. Standard Voltage Condition Accel Sensor Out No. 1 Accel Sensor Out No. 2 Accelerator pedal released 0.5 to 1.1 V 1.2 to 2.0 V Accelerator pedal depressed 2.6 to 4.5 V 3.4 to 5.0 V HINT: If the results are not as specified, check the accelerator pedal, wire harness or ECM.

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
  2. REMOVE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY Disconnect the accelerator pedal connector. Remove the 2 bolts and the accelerator pedal. NOTE: Do not drop or strike the accelerator pedal. Do not disassemble the accelerator pedal.

Note. Perform the mass air flow meter inspection according to the procedures below. Only replace the mass air flow meter when both the LONG FT#1 value and MAF value in the DATA LIST (with the engine stopped) are not within the normal operating range.

  1. INSPECT MASS AIR FLOW METER Perform confirmation driving pattern. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Clear the DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-394513-S17742279252011040800000) . Start the engine and warm it up with all the accessory switches OFF (until the engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) or more). Drive the vehicle at 50 km/h (31 mph) or more for 3 to 5 minutes *1. Allow the engine to idle for 2 minutes *2. Perform steps *1 and *2 at least 3 times. Read the value using the Techstream (Long FT#1). Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Long FT #1. Read the values displayed on the tester. Standard value Within -20 to 20 % If the result is not within the specified range, perform the inspection below. Read the value using the intelligent tester (MAF). NOTE: Turn off the engine. Perform the inspection with the vehicle indoors and on a level surface. Perform the inspection of the mass air flow meter while it is installed into the air cleaner case (installed on the vehicle). During the test, do not use the exhaust air duct to perform suction on the exhaust pipe. Turn the ignition switch to ACC. Turn the ignition switch ON (do not run the engine). Turn the tester ON. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / MAF. Wait 30 seconds, and read the values on the intelligent tester. Standard condition Less than 0.28g/sec If the result is not as specified, replace the mass air flow meter. If the result is within the specified range, investigate the cause of the extremely rich or lean air fuel ratio. Refer to «DTC P0171: System Too Lean (Bank 1); DTC P0172: System Too Rich (Bank 1)»(ref-394516-S19376087342011040800000) .
