INSTALLATION

  1. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY Install a new gasket and the throttle body with motor with the 4 bolts. Torque: 11 N*m (112 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf) Connect the throttle position sensor and throttle control motor connector. Connect the No. 4 water by-pass hose. Connect the No. 5 water by-pass hose.
  2. INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY WITH ELEMENT . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 4»(ref-389345-S13091461642011032200000)
  3. INSTALL NO. 2 AIR CLEANER HOSE . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 5»(ref-389345-S13091461642011032200000)
  4. ADD ENGINE COOLANT . Refer to «REPLACEMENT - Step 3»(ref-389307-S31806286302011032200000)
  5. INSPECT FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAK . Refer to «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION - Step 1»(ref-389303-S24434070642011032200000)

  10. PERFORM INITIALIZATION NOTE: Be sure to perform this procedure after reassembling the throttle body assembly or removing and reinstalling any throttle body component. Perform the following procedure after replacing the ECM, throttle body assembly or any throttle body components. The following procedure should also be performed if the throttle body is cleaned. Be sure to perform this procedure after reconnecting the battery cable and replacing the ECM. Disconnect the EFI NO. 1 fuse and ETCS fuse at the same time. Wait at least 60 seconds and reconnect the fuses. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position without operating the accelerator pedal. NOTE: If the accelerator pedal is operated, perform the above steps again. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3 and clear the DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-389327-S24648340122011032200000) . Start the engine and check that the MIL is not illuminated and that the idle speed is within the specified range when the A/C is switched off after the engine is warmed up. Standard Condition Engine Idle Speed A/C switched off 650 to 750 rpm NOTE: Be sure to perform this step with all accessories off. Make sure that the shift lever is in N or P. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ETC / Data List / All Data / Throttle Sensor Position. Sensor Output. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and check that the value is 60% or more. Perform a road test and confirm that there are no abnormalities.

  1. DISCONNECT CONNECTOR HOLDER BLOCK Remove the 3 bolts and move the connector holder block so that the ECM can be removed in the next step.
  2. REMOVE ECM NOTE: Make sure that the lock lever is raised 90° as shown in the illustration before disconnecting the ECM connectors. Failure to do this may cause the ECM connectors to break. Raise the 2 levers while pushing the locks on the 2 levers. Disconnect the 2 connectors. Remove the 4 bolts and ECM.
  3. REMOVE ECM GASKET Peel off the rubber part of the gasket. NOTE: When using gasket remover or equivalent, cover the ECM connector with a cloth. Spray gasket remover or equivalent on the remaining tape of the gasket. NOTE: Do not damage the ECM seal's surface with the knife. Use a cutter knife to remove the tape of the gasket.

  1. INSTALL ECM GASKET Clean the ECM seal's surface with non-residue solvent. Attach a new gasket to the ECM.
  2. INSTALL ECM NOTE: Make sure the gasket is not folded or caught on any area on the surrounding part. Make sure there is no foreign matter caught between the gasket and surrounding part. Do not damage the gasket. Install the ECM with the 4 bolts. Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf) NOTE: Make sure that the lock lever is raised 90° before connecting the ECM connectors. Failure to do this may cause the lock lever and terminals to break. Do not twist the wire harness when connecting the ECM connectors. Connect the 2 ECM connectors and push each lock lever down to lock the ECM connectors.
  3. CONNECT CONNECTOR HOLDER BLOCK Connect the connector holder block with the 3 bolts. Torque: 7.3 N*m (74 kgf*cm, 65 in.*lbf)

  1. INSTALL ACCELERATOR PEDAL ROD ASSEMBLY NOTE: Avoid physical shocks to the accelerator pedal rod assembly. Do not disassemble the accelerator pedal rod assembly. Install the accelerator pedal rod with the 2 nuts. Torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) Connect the accelerator pedal position sensor connector.

  2. INSTALL VVT SENSOR (for Bank 1) Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring of the sensor. Install the sensor with the bolt. Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf) Connect the sensor connector.

  1. INSPECT CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR NOTE: In the table above, the terms "cold" and "hot" refer to the temperature of the sensor. "Cold" means approximately -10 to 50°C (14 to 122°F). "Hot" means approximately 50 to 100°C (122 to 212°F). Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 - 2 Cold 1630 to 2740 ohms Hot 2065 to 3225 ohms If the resistance is not as specified, replace the sensor.
  1. INSTALL CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring of the sensor. Install the sensor with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) Connect the sensor connector.

  1. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR Partially soak the sensor in water and warm up the water. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 - 2 Approx. 20°C (68°F) 2.32 to 2.59 kohms Approx. 80°C (176°F) 0.310 to 0.326 kohms NOTE: When checking the sensor in water, keep the terminals dry. After the check, wipe the sensor dry. If the result is not as specified, replace the sensor.

  1. INSTALL ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR Install a new gasket to the sensor. Install the sensor. Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) Connect the sensor connector.
  2. INSTALL INTAKE MANIFOLD NOTE: Align the port holes of the gasket and cylinder head. Be careful of the installation direction. Set a new gasket on each cylinder head. Set the intake manifold on the cylinder heads. Install and uniformly tighten the 10 bolts in several passes. Torque: 26 N*m (265 kgf*cm, 19 ft.*lbf) Connect the 6 fuel injector connectors.
  3. INSTALL INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK Install the intake air surge tank. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-389345-S09613473482011032200000) .

  1. INSPECT AIR FUEL RATIO SENSOR Disconnect the 2 sensor connectors. Measure the heater resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard resistance (for Bank 1 sensor 1) Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 (HA1A) - 2 (+B) 20°C (68°F) 1.8 to 3.4 ohms Standard resistance (for Bank 2 sensor 1) Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 (HA2A) - 2 (+B) 20°C (68°F) 1.8 to 3.4 ohms If the result is not as specified, replace the air fuel ratio sensor. Connect the 2 sensor connectors.
  2. INSPECT AIR-FUEL RATIO COMPENSATION SYSTEM HINT: Malfunctioning areas can be identified by performing the Control the Injection Volume for A/F sensor function provided in the Active Test. The Control the Injection Volume for A/F sensor function can help to determine whether the Air-Fuel Ratio (A/F) sensor, Heated Oxygen (HO2) sensor and other potential trouble areas are malfunctioning. The following instructions describe how to conduct the Control the Injection Volume for A/F sensor operation using the Techstream. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Start the engine and turn the Techstream main switch ON. Warm up the engine at an engine speed of 2500 rpm for approximately 90 seconds. Enter the following menus: Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the Injection Volume for A/F sensor. Perform the Active Test operation with the engine in an idling condition (press the RIGHT or LEFT button to change the fuel injection volume). Monitor the output voltages of the A/F and HO2 sensors (AFS Voltage B1S1 and O2S B1S2 or AFS Voltage B2S1 and O2S B2S2) displayed on the Techstream. HINT: The Control the Injection Volume for A/F sensor operation lowers the fuel injection volume by 12.5% or increases the injection volume by 25%. Each sensor reacts in accordance with increases and decreases in the fuel injection volume. To display the graph, enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the Injection Volume for A/F Sensor / A/F Control System / AFS Voltage B1S1 and O2S B1S2 or AFS Voltage B2S1 and O2S B2S2.

  1. REMOVE FRONT NO. 3 EXHAUST PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Regular Cab Standard Deck) Remove the 4 bolts and 2 nuts. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust pipe support, and remove the 2 gaskets.
  2. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (for Regular Cab Standard Deck) Disconnect the air fuel ratio sensor connector. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector. Remove the 3 nuts, exhaust pipe and gasket.
  3. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (except Regular Cab Standard Deck) Disconnect the air fuel ratio sensor connector. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector. Remove the 3 nuts, 2 bolts, exhaust pipe and gasket.
  4. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY Disconnect the air fuel ratio sensor connector. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector and 2 clamps. Remove the 2 bolts. Remove the 3 nuts, exhaust pipe and 2 gaskets.
  5. REMOVE AIR FUEL RATIO SENSOR (for Bank 1 Sensor 1) Using SST, remove the sensor. SST: 09224-00010
  6. REMOVE AIR FUEL RATIO SENSOR (for Bank 2 Sensor 1) Using SST, remove the sensor. SST: 09224-00010

  1. INSTALL AIR FUEL RATIO SENSOR (for Bank 1 Sensor 1) Using SST, install the sensor. SST: 09224-00010 without SST Torque: 44 N*m (449 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf) with SST Torque: 40 N*m (408 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf) HINT: Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 30 cm (11.8 in.). If using a torque wrench with a length that is not 30 cm (11.8 in.), calculate the torque specification for the torque wrench and SST based on the "without SST" torque specification. Refer to «PRECAUTION»(ref-389124-S05111986592011032200000) . Make sure SST and wrench are connected in a straight line.
  2. INSTALL AIR FUEL RATIO SENSOR (for Bank 2 Sensor 1) Using SST, install the sensor. SST: 09224-00010 without SST Torque: 44 N*m (449 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf) with SST Torque: 40 N*m (408 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf) HINT: Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 30 cm (11.8 in.). If using a torque wrench with a length that is not 30 cm (11.8 in.), calculate the torque specification for the torque wrench and SST based on the "without SST" torque specification. Refer to «PRECAUTION»(ref-389124-S05111986592011032200000) . Make sure SST and wrench are connected in a straight line.
  3. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY Install a new gasket and the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold RH with 3 new nuts. Torque: 54 N*m (551 kgf*cm, 40 ft.*lbf) Install a new gasket and the exhaust pipe to the center exhaust pipe with the 2 bolts. Torque: 48 N*m (489 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf) Connect the air fuel ratio sensor connector. Connect the heated oxygen sensor connector and 2 clamps.
  4. INSTALL FRONT NO. 2 EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (except Regular Cab Standard Deck) Connect the front No. 2 exhaust pipe to the exhaust pipe support. Install a new gasket and the front No. 2 exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold LH with 3 new nuts. Torque: 48 N*m (489 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf) Connect the air fuel ratio sensor connector. Connect the heated oxygen sensor connector.
  5. INSTALL FRONT NO. 2 EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (for Regular Cab Standard Deck) Install a new gasket and the front No. 2 exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold LH with 3 new nuts. Torque: 54 N*m (551 kgf*cm, 40 ft.*lbf) Connect the air fuel ratio sensor connector. Connect the heated oxygen sensor connector and 2 clamps.
  6. INSTALL FRONT NO. 3 EXHAUST PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Regular Cab Standard Deck) Install a new gasket to the front No. 2 exhaust pipe. Install a new gasket to the front No. 3 exhaust pipe. Connect the front No. 3 exhaust pipe to the exhaust pipe support. Install the front No. 3 exhaust pipe with the 4 bolts and 2 new nuts. Torque: 48 N*m (489 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf)

  1. REMOVE INTEGRATION RELAY (UNIT E) Remove the engine room relay block cover. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and disconnect the integration relay from the engine room relay block. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use. Disconnect the 3 connectors.
  2. INSPECT INTEGRATION RELAY (IGNITION RELAY NO. 2) NOTE: Some relays are built into the integration relay (unit E). The integration relay cannot be disassembled. If there is a malfunction in the circuit of the integration relay, replace the integration relay. The internal circuit of the integration relay is as shown in the illustration below. Inspect the integration relay using the following procedures. Measure the resistance of the IG2 MAIN fuse. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition IG2 MAIN fuse Always Below 1 ohms If the result is not as specified, replace the IG2 MAIN fuse.   3. INSTALL INTEGRATION RELAY (UNIT E) Connect the 3 connectors. Install the integration relay to the engine room relay block. Install the engine room relay block cover.
