REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Removal & Installation (RAV4, Tacoma & 4Runner - Front)
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove glove box, if necessary. Disconnect blower motor and resistor harness connectors. Remove blower motor. To install, reverse removal procedure. (Scheme 1), (Scheme 2) or (Scheme 4).
Removal & Installation (Tundra)
Remove lower instrument panel cover. Remove heater to register duct, if necessary. Remove blower motor retaining screws. Remove blower motor. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Removal & Installation (4Runner - Rear)
Remove rear heater assembly. See HEATER ASSEMBLY. Remove wire harness and clamps. Separate heater case and remove blower motor. To install, reverse removal procedure. (Scheme 5)
Removal & Installation (Tacoma)
Remove glove box door. Disconnect blower motor resistor harness connector. Remove blower motor resistor. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Remove glove box components. Remove lower finish panels. Remove lower center cover. Remove heater-to-register ducts as necessary. Remove blower motor resistor. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Removal & Installation (4Runner - Front)
Remove glove box components. Remove front blower motor resistor. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Remove front seats. Slide floor carpet backward. Disconnect rear blower motor resistor harness connector. Remove rear blower motor resistor. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Removal & Installation (RAV4, Tacoma, Tundra & 4Runner - Front)
- Remove instrument panel and/or glove box components. See «INSTRUMENT PANEL»(ref-98908-S32977673502001060500000).
- Remove A/C cooling unit (if equipped). See appropriate MANUAL A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS article. Drain cooling system. Disconnect hoses from heater core. Remove grommets from hoses. Remove instrument panel (if required).
- Disconnect control cables from heater assembly. Remove defroster nozzle and heater duct. Remove heater unit. (Scheme 1), (Scheme 2), (Scheme 3) or (Scheme 4). Remove screws, clamps and heater core. To install, reverse removal procedure.

- Drain cooling system. Remove front seats and center console box. Roll floor carpet back and disconnect water hoses. Remove heater duct.
- Disconnect control cable and remove heater control assembly. Remove heater unit. (Scheme 5) Remove wire harness and clamps. Separate heater case and heater core. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Removal & Installation (RAV4)
Remove glove box door. Remove side trim cover and lower trim panel. Remove lower insert panel. Disconnect heater control cables. Remove heater control knobs. Remove heater control cover trim. Remove 3 screws and heater control panel. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Remove lower trim finish panels. Remove glove box door. Remove heater control knobs. Remove heater control name plate. Remove 2 screws. Using screwdriver, release fitting clips and pull heater control panel from dash. Disconnect harness connector and control cables. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Remove 3 heater control knobs. Remove 5 panel screws. Gently pull center cluster integration panel at inside of vents to release 7 retainer clips. Remove air bag indicator. Remove 5 illumination bulbs. Remove 5 retaining screws and heater control housing. Remove underdash panels, glove box and heater-to-register ducts. Disconnect heater control cables. Remove heater control assembly. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Remove parking brake hole cover. Remove upper console panel. Remove center cluster finish panel. Disconnect heater control cables. Remove front heater control panel knobs, face trim panel and mounting screws. Remove front heater control panel from dash. Disconnect harness connector. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Remove rear console box. Disconnect control cable. Disconnect harness connector. Remove rear heater control panel. To install, reverse removal procedure.
- Disable air bag system. See AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article in GENERAL SERVICING. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove front pillar trim, front door scuff plate and cowl side trim. Remove steering wheel and steering column cover. Remove passenger's side air bag module.
- Remove right and left side lower panels, lower center cover and glove box door. Remove hood lock release lever. Remove combination switch. Remove upper and lower center cluster panels (center console box, if equipped). Remove instrument cluster panel and instrument cluster.
- Remove instrument panel vents and heater ducts. Remove glove box door reinforcement and instrument panel braces. Disconnect any harness connectors necessary for instrument panel removal.
- Remove bolts at instrument cluster opening. Disengage instrument panel from clips along top edge of panel. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Drain cooling system. Disconnect control cable from water valve. Disconnect water hoses from heater core. Remove water valve. To install, reverse removal procedure. When connecting water hose to heater core, push hose onto pipe until it contacts ridge.
