INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT

  1. In contrast to normal malfunction diagnosis for components, circuit and systems, DTC P1605 is used to determine the malfunctioning area from the problem symptoms and freeze frame data when the user mentions problems such as rough idling. As these DTCs can be stored as a result of certain user actions, even if these DTCs are output, if the customer makes no mention of problems, clear these DTCs without performing any troubleshooting and return the vehicle to the customer.
  2. If any DTCs other than P1605 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.
  3. Since DTC P1605 is different from other DTCs, the following procedure is shown as a reference.
  4. Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. Freeze frame data records engine conditions when a malfunction occurs. This information can be useful when troubleshooting.
  5. When confirming the freeze frame data, be sure to check all 5 sets of freeze frame data. Refer to «FREEZE FRAME DATA [12/2013 - ]»(ref-651185-S24586942692014081900000) .
  6. When confirming freeze frame data, if there are multiple items related to the cause of the malfunction, perform troubleshooting for all related items.
  7. Try to operate the vehicle under the conditions recorded in the freeze frame data which were present when the malfunction occurred. Confirm the data at this time and the data when the engine is idling (engine warmed up and no load) and compare these data with the freeze frame data.
  8. Inspections take into account the fact that the malfunction may not have reoccurred and place emphasis on checking the vehicle conditions present at the time when the malfunction occurred.
  9. When performing inspections, jiggle the relevant wire harnesses and connectors in an attempt to reproduce malfunctions that do not always occur.

Note. Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

HINT

  1. Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
  2. The throttle actuator current (Throttle Motor Current) and the throttle actuator duty ratio (Throttle Motor Duty (Open) / Throttle Motor Duty (Close)) can be read using the Techstream. However, the ECM shuts off the throttle actuator current when the electronic throttle control system malfunctions.

HINT

  1. Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. Freeze frame data records engine conditions when a malfunction occurs. This information can be useful when troubleshooting.
  2. Since a pending DTC is not stored for this DTC, it takes time to confirm whether the malfunction has been successfully repaired by checking for this DTC. When confirming whether the malfunction has been successfully repaired, compare "ISC Learning Value" recorded in the freeze frame data with "ISC Learning Value" in the Data List after repairs have been made to save time.

HINT

  2. Refer to "Data List / Active Test" [Throttle Position Command, Throttle Position No. 1, Throttle Motor Current, Throttle Motor Duty (Open), Throttle Motor Duty (Close)]. Refer to «DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [12/2013 - ]»(ref-651185-S09213809152014081900000) .

Note. Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

HINT

  1. Sensor 1 refers to the sensor closest to the engine assembly.
  2. Sensor 2 refers to the sensor farthest away from the engine assembly.
  4. A low air fuel ratio sensor voltage could be caused by a rich air fuel mixture. Check for conditions that would cause the engine to run rich.
  5. A high air fuel ratio sensor voltage could be caused by a lean air fuel mixture. Check for conditions that would cause the engine to run lean.

HINT

  1. Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
  2. When any air-fuel ratio imbalance is detected, the ECM will perform air-fuel ratio feedback control to make the air-fuel ratio close to the stoichiometric level. This may result in an air-fuel ratio imbalance of normal cylinders and DTCs may be stored.

Note. Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

HINT

  1. DTC P2610 is set if an internal ECM problem is detected. Diagnostic procedures are not required. ECM replacement is required.

HINT

  1. Repeating this inspection for symptom confirmation may cause the SOC to drop, preventing the system from entering the READY-on state. In this case, use the THS charger to charge the HV battery.
  2. Cranking the engine once causes the SOC to drop approximately 1%.
  3. Charging the HV battery once (10 minutes) using the THS charger restores the SOC approximately 2%.
  4. Charging the HV battery using the THS charger takes approximately 10 minutes when the HV battery temperature is 25°C or approximately 30 minutes when the HV battery temperature is 0°C.
  5. The THS charger is a supplemental charging device that charges the HV battery enough to enable the engine to start (the vehicle can enter the READY-on state).

HINT

  1. When DTC P3190, P3191 or P3193 is stored, engine operation is disabled. In this case, add fuel or perform a repair, then clear the DTCs and turn the ignition switch off to allow the operation to return to normal.
  2. When DTC P3190, P3191 or P3193 is stored, the HV battery is not charged as the vehicle operates using only the motor. If the vehicle is driven in this condition, the SOC will drop and the HV battery will be depleted, preventing the system from entering the READY-on state.

Refer to the CAN Communication System. Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [12/2013 - ] .
