ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
- INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Start the engine and turn the Techstream on. Warm up the engine. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Linear (Bank 1) or Control the VVT Linear (Bank 2) or Control the VVT System (Bank 1) or Control the VVT System (Bank 2) or Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 1) or Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 2). Check the engine speed while operating the Oil Control Valve (OCV) using the Techstream. OK Tester Operation Specified Condition OCV OFF Normal engine speed OCV ON Soon after OCV switched from OFF to ON, engine idles roughly or stalls If the result is not as specified, check the oil control valve, wirings and camshaft timing gear. HINT: Control the VVT Linear (Bank 1): Command to activate exhaust and intake side oil control valves of bank 1 (Control range: Between -128 to 127%). Control the VVT Linear (Bank 2): Command to activate exhaust and intake side oil control valves of bank 2 (Control range: Between -128 to 127%). Control VVT System (Bank 1): Command to activate oil control valve of bank 1 (Control range: ON/OFF). Control VVT System (Bank 2): Command to activate oil control valve of bank 2 (Control range: ON/OFF). Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 1): Command to activate exhaust side oil control valve of bank 1 (Control range: Between -128 to 127%). Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 2): Command to activate exhaust side oil control valve of bank 2 (Control range: Between -128 to 127%).

- REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Intake Side of Bank 1) Disconnect the oil control valve connector. Remove the bolt and oil control valve. Remove the O-ring from the oil control valve.
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Intake Side of Bank 2) Disconnect the oil control valve connector. Remove the bolt and oil control valve. Remove the O-ring from the oil control valve.
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Exhaust Side of Bank 2) Disconnect the oil control valve connector. Remove the bolt and oil control valve. Remove the O-ring from the oil control valve.

- INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 - 2 20°C (68°F) 6.9 to 7.9 ohms If the result is not as specified, replace the oil control valve assembly. Connect the battery positive (+) lead to terminal 1 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 2, and check the movement of the valve. OK Condition Specified Condition Battery positive (+) voltage is applied Valve moves in left arrow direction shown in the illustration Battery positive (+) voltage is cut off Valve moves in right arrow direction shown in the illustration If the result is not as specified, replace the oil control valve assembly. If the valve cannot return properly because of foreign matter, a small pressure leak in the advanced direction may occur and a DTC may be output.
INSTALLATION
- INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Exhaust Side of Bank 1) Install a new O-ring to the oil control valve. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring. Install the oil control valve with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the oil control valve (connecting surface with cylinder head cover). Be careful that the O-ring is not cracked or moved out of place when installing the oil control valve. Connect the oil control valve connector.
- INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Intake Side of Bank 1) Install a new O-ring to the oil control valve. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring. Install the oil control valve with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the oil control valve (connecting surface with cylinder head cover). Be careful that the O-ring is not cracked or moved out of place when installing the oil control valve. Connect the oil control valve connector.
- INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Intake Side of Bank 2) Install a new O-ring to the oil control valve. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring. Install the oil control valve with the bolt. - CHECK THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY Check the throttle control motor operating sounds. Turn the engine switch on (IG). When depressing the accelerator pedal, check the operating sound of the running motor. Make sure that no friction noises are emitted from the motor. If friction noise exists, replace the throttle body. Check the throttle position sensor. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream main switch on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / Throttle Sensor Volt %. Depress the accelerator pedal. When the throttle valve is fully opened, check that the value of "Throttle Sensor Volt %" is within the specification. Standard throttle valve opening percentage 60% or more HINT: When checking the standard throttle valve opening percentage, the shift lever should be in N. If the percentage is less than 60%, replace the throttle body.

- REMOVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY Disconnect the 2 water by-pass hoses. Disconnect the throttle position sensor and control motor connector. Remove the 4 bolts, throttle body and gasket. Remove the 2 water by-pass hoses from the throttle body.

- INSPECT THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY Check the throttle valve. Check that the throttle valve opens and closes smoothly. Check that there is no sludge accumulating around the throttle body. Check the throttle control motor. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 (M-) - 2 (M+) 20°C (68°F) 0.3 to 100 ohms If the result is not as specified, replace the throttle body.

- INSTALL THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY Install the 2 water by-pass hoses to the throttle body. Install a new gasket to the intake air surge tank. HINT: Align the protrusion of the gasket with the groove of the intake air surge tank. Install the throttle body with the 4 bolts. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) Connect the throttle position sensor and control motor connector. Connect the 2 water by-pass hoses.

- PERFORM INITIALIZATION NOTE: Perform the following procedure after replacing the ECM, throttle body assembly or any throttle body components. The following procedure should also be performed if the throttle body is cleaned. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Wait at least 60 seconds and reconnect the cable. Turn the ignition switch on (IG) without operating the accelerator pedal. NOTE: If the accelerator pedal is operated, perform the above steps again. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3 and clear the DTCs. Refer to «INITIALIZATION»(/toyota/land-cruiser/200-2012-2015/remont/hoistjack/#introduction) . Start the engine and check that the MIL is not illuminated and that the idle speed is within the specified range when the A/C is switched off after the engine is warmed up. Standard Condition Engine Idle Speed A/C switched off 650 to 750 RPM NOTE: Be sure to perform this step with all accessories off. Make sure that the shift lever is in N or P. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Throttle Sensor Volt %. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and check that the value is 60% or more. Perform a road test and confirm that there are no abnormalities.

- PRECAUTION NOTE: After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work. - DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
- DISCONNECT CONNECTOR HOLDER BLOCK Remove the 3 bolts and move the connector holder block so that the ECM can be removed in the next step.
- REMOVE ECM Raise the 2 levers while pushing the locks on the 2 levers. NOTE: Make sure that the lock levers are raised 90° as shown in the illustration before disconnecting the connectors. Failure to do this may cause the connectors to break. Disconnect the 2 connectors. Remove the 4 bolts and ECM.
- REMOVE GASKET Peel off the gasket. Spray gasket remover or equivalent on the remaining tape of the gasket. NOTE: When using gasket remover or equivalent, cover the ECM connectors with a cloth. Remove the tape of the gasket without using bladed objects.

- INSTALL GASKET Clean the ECM seal surface with non-residue solvent. Attach a new gasket to the ECM.
- INSTALL ECM Install the ECM with the 4 bolts. Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf) NOTE: Make sure the gasket is not folded or caught on any area of the surrounding part. Make sure there is no foreign matter caught between the gasket and surrounding part. Do not damage the gasket. Connect the 2 ECM connectors and push each lock lever down to lock the ECM connectors. NOTE: Be careful not to allow dirt, water, or other foreign matter to adhere to the connecting parts when connecting the connectors. Do not twist the wire harness when connecting the ECM connectors. Make sure that the lock levers are raised 90° before connecting the ECM connectors. Failure to do this may cause the lock lever and terminals to break. Make sure that the levers are securely locked.
- INSTALL CONNECTOR HOLDER BLOCK Install the connector holder block with the 3 bolts. Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf)

- CHECK MASS AIR FLOW METER Check the mass air flow value. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream main switch on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / MAF. Blow air into the MAF meter, and check that the MAF value fluctuates. If the result is not as specified, check the MAF meter. If the result is not as specified, replace the mass air flow meter. Check the IAT sensor. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. - REMOVE SPARK PLUG Remove the 8 spark plugs.
- INSTALL SPARK PLUG Install the 8 spark plugs. Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)
- INSTALL IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY Install the 8 ignition coils with the 8 bolts. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) Connect the 8 ignition coil connectors.
- CONNECT WATER BY-PASS PIPE ASSEMBLY Connect the water by-pass pipe to the cylinder head cover and automatic transmission with the 3 bolts. Torque: 18 N*m (184 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf) Connect the water by-pass pipe to the cylinder head cover and timing chain cover with the 2 bolts. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)

- INSPECT MAIN BODY ECU (IG1 NO. 1) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
