PRECAUTION

  1. PRECAUTIONS FOR EACH FUNCTION Precautions for the key: The key is a precision instrument. Be sure to observe the following: Do not drop or strike the key. Do not keep the key in a high temperature area for a long time. Do not use an ultrasonic washing machine to clean the key. Keep the key away from magnets or magnetized items during use. Do not attach any stickers to the key. Precautions for the battery built into the key and the vehicle battery: When the door is being locked, the vehicle battery is used to transmit a radio wave. The battery may be fully depleted if the vehicle remains stopped for a long time. If the vehicle is not used for a long time, replace the transmitter battery (See «TRANSMITTER BATTERY»(/toyota/land-cruiser/200-2007-2012/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#door-lock) ) or cancel the smart key system (for Entry Function) (See «PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE»(/toyota/land-cruiser/200-2007-2012/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#theft-deterrent-keyless-entry) ). When the door is being locked with the key in the detection area of the door oscillator, the battery is used to regulate communication between the key and vehicle. If the vehicle is not used, keep the key away from the vehicle more than 2 m (6.56 ft.).

COMMUNICATION CHART

This system lock/unlocks the doors remotely. The wireless door lock control system has the following features

  1. The certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) performs the code identification process and the main body ECU (cowl side junction block LH) controls the door lock. A serial data link is provided for communication between the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) and main body ECU (cowl side junction block LH).
  2. A key-integrated type transmitter is used and it contains the following 3 switches: lock switch, unlock switch and panic switch.
  3. An LED is mounted on the transmitter to show if the battery is depleted.
  1. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS COMPONENTS FUNCTION CHART Component Function Door control transmitter Contains lock, unlock, and panic switches. Transmits weak electric waves (recognition codes and function codes) to door control receiver. Illuminates indicator light (LED) during transmission. Door control receiver Receives weak electric waves (recognition codes and function codes) from door control transmitter via electrical key antenna and changes waves to code data. Front door courtesy light switch Rear door courtesy light switch Back door courtesy light switch Turns on when door is open and off when door is closed. Outputs door status (open or closed) to main body ECU (cowl side junction block LH). Door lock position switch Transmits door lock positions of each door to main body ECU (cowl side junction block LH). Wireless door lock buzzer Emits beep (answer-back) when doors are locked or unlocked by wireless operation. Certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) Matches code data with registered code and outputs code data to main body ECU (cowl side junction block LH).
  2. SYSTEM FUNCTION The wireless door lock control system has the following functions: SYSTEM FUNCTION CHART Function Outline All door lock function Pressing the lock switch locks all the doors and retracts the outer mirrors. All door unlock function Pressing the unlock switch unlocks all the doors and returns the outer mirrors. 2-step unlock function Pressing the unlock switch once unlocks only the driver side door and returns the outer mirrors. Pressing the unlock switch twice within 3 seconds unlocks all the doors. Power window and sliding roof open function (remote function) After locking all the doors with the door control transmitter operation, pressing the unlock switch for 3 seconds or more opens all the power windows and the sliding roof. Chattering prevention function If a switch is pressed, the corresponding switch operation is performed once. If a switch is held down, the corresponding switch operation occurs only once and does not repeatedly activate. Lastly, when pressing a switch at 1 second intervals, the corresponding operation activates once for every press of the switch. Answer-back function When the doors are locked, the turn signal lights flash once. When the doors are unlocked, the turn signal lights flash twice and the wireless warning buzzer sounds twice. When the transmitter is used for opening the power windows and sliding roof, this function causes the buzzer to sound to indicate that the operation begins). Automatic lock function If no doors are opened within 60 seconds after they are unlocked by the door control transmitter, all the doors will lock again automatically. Panic alarm function Holding down the panic switch for more than 1 second sets off the theft deterrent alarm (the horn and security horn sounds, the hazard warning lights, headlights, and taillights flash, and the map light and spot light illuminate). Fail-safe function When the key is in the vehicle, the doors cannot be locked by the lock switch. Illuminated entry function Pressing the unlock switch causes dome light (map light and rear map light) illumination and the all door unlock operation to occur simultaneously. If the doors have not been opened, the dome light (map light and rear map light) turns off in approximately 15 seconds. Door ajar warning function If any door is open or ajar, pressing the lock switch will cause the wireless door lock buzzer to sound for about 10 seconds. Memory call function If the unlock switch of a memory call registered transmitter is pressed and the driver door is opened, the following parts move to the memory call position: front seat, front seat belt anchor, steering wheel and outer mirrors. Transmitter recognition code registration function Enables 7 modes for registering (writing and storing) transmitter recognition codes in the EEPROM.

  1. VEHICLE BROUGHT TO WORKSHOP
  2. INSPECT BATTERY VOLTAGE Standard voltage: 11 to 14 V If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge or replace the battery before proceeding.
  3. CHECK FOR DTC* Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output (See «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART»(/toyota/land-cruiser/200-2007-2012/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#door-lock) ). Clear the DTCs (See «DTC CHECK/CLEAR»(/toyota/land-cruiser/200-2007-2012/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#door-lock) ). Recheck for DTCs (See «DTC CHECK/CLEAR»(/toyota/land-cruiser/200-2007-2012/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#door-lock) ). Based on the DTCs output above, try to force output of the same CAN communication system DTC, LIN communication system DTC or wireless door lock control system DTC by simulating the symptoms indicated by the DTC. OPERATION CHECK

  1. NOTICES WHEN CHECKING Wireless door lock/unlock function: The wireless door lock control function operates only when the following 5 conditions are met: The engine switch is off. All the doors are closed. HINT: The unlock function operates even when one of the doors is open. There is no door control transmitter in the cabin. The power door lock control system is functioning normally. The function is not disabled by customization. The wireless transmitter operational area differs depending on the situation. The operational area differs depending on the user, the way the transmitter is held and the location. In certain areas, the operational area will be reduced due to the vehicle body shape and the influence of the surrounding environment. The weak electric waves of the transmitter may be affected if the area has strong electric waves or noise. The transmitter operational area may be shortened or the transmitter may not function. When the battery weakens, the operational area is reduced or the transmitter may not function. HINT: The battery may weaken or other problems may occur if one of the following occurs: 1) it has had prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, such as on the instrument panel; or 2) it is placed within 1 m (3.28 ft) of electrical products, such as TVs, computers, cordless phones, cell phone recharger stands (with the cell phone recharging), etc.
  2. CHECK WIRELESS DOOR LOCK CONTROL SYSTEM HINT: The switches described below transmit signals and are built into the door control transmitter. The transmitter operational area must be taken into account while checks are being made. Make sure the vehicle is in a condition in which the wireless door lock control functions can be operated (see previous step). Check the basic functions: Check that the transmitter LED lights up 3 times when each switch is pressed 3 times. HINT: If the LED does not illuminate when the switch has been pressed 3 times or more, the battery may be depleted. Check that when the lock switch is pressed, all the doors lock. Check that when the unlock switch is pressed once, only the driver side door unlocks and the outer mirrors return. When the unlock switch is pressed again within 3 seconds, check that all doors unlock (2-step unlock function)*. HINT: *: The 2-step unlock function applies only if the setting of this function is the default. When the transmitter is within 1 m (3.28 ft) of the driver seat, check that when the unlock switch is held down for 3 seconds or more, all the power windows and the sliding roof open. Also check that the open operation stops when the switch is released. Check the chattering prevention function: If a switch is pressed, check that the corresponding operation is performed only once. If the switch is held down, check that the corresponding operation occurs only once and does not repeatedly activate. Lastly, if a switch is pressed at 1 second intervals, check that the corresponding operation activates once for every press of the switch. Check the answer-back function: When the lock switch is pressed, check that the turn signal lights flash once, the wireless door lock buzzer sounds once and all the doors lock. When the unlock switch is pressed, check that the turn signal lights flash twice, the wireless door lock buzzer sounds twice and all the doors unlock. Check the automatic lock function: When all of the doors are unlocked with the unlock switch and none of the doors are opened or locked within 60 seconds*, check that the doors lock again. HINT: *: The automatic lock function time (60 seconds) applies only if the setting of this function is the default. Check the panic alarm function: When the panic switch is held down for 1 second or more, check that the security horn and vehicle horn sound, the headlights, taillights, and turn signal lights flash, and the map light and spot light illuminate. Check the switch operation fail-safe function: If the key is in the vehicle, check that the doors cannot be locked by the lock switch. However, this does not apply when the system is in the recognition code registration mode. Check the illuminated entry function: When the map light door switch is on and all the doors are locked, pressing the unlock switch causes the map light, rear map light and dome right to illuminate and all doors to unlock simultaneously. If the doors have not been opened, the map light, rear map light and dome right turn off in approximately 15 seconds. HINT: The illumination period of the lights can be changed by adjusting the customize parameters. Check the door ajar warning function: If a door is open or not completely closed, check that the doors cannot be locked by the lock switch and the buzzer sounds for 10 seconds. HINT: The buzzer stops sounding if either of the following conditions is met: The buzzer has sounded for 10 seconds. The engine switch is on (ACC) or on (IG). All the doors are closed. Check the memory call function (See «OPERATION CHECK»(/toyota/land-cruiser/200-2007-2012/remont/seats/#seat) ).
  1. CUSTOMIZING FUNCTION WITH TECHSTREAM (REFERENCE) NOTE: When the customer requests a change in a function, first make sure that the function can be customized. Be sure to make a note of the current settings before customizing. When troubleshooting a function, first make sure that the function is set to the default setting. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Customize Setting. Select the setting by referring to the table below. Wireless Door Lock CUSTOMIZE SETTING - WIRELESS DOOR LOCK Display Default Contents Setting Wireless Control ON Function that turns the wireless door lock function on or off. ON/OFF Hazard Answer Back ON When the lock switch on the transmitter is pressed, this function illuminates the hazard warning lights once. When the unlock switch is pressed, the hazard warning lights illuminate twice. ON/OFF Open Door Warning ON If a door is not completely closed and the transmitter lock switch is pressed, this function makes the buzzer sound for 10 seconds. ON/OFF Unlock 2 Operation ON Function that unlocks the driver side door when the unlock switch on the transmitter is pressed once, and unlocks all doors when the switch is pressed twice. If the setting is OFF, pressing the unlock switch once makes all the doors unlock. ON/OFF Panic Alarm Function ON Function to operate the theft deterrent system by continuously pressing the panic switch on transmitter for 1 second or more. ON/OFF Wireless Buzzer Volume Level 7 This function changes the wireless buzzer volume. Level O/Level 1/Level 2/Level 3/Level 4/Level 5/Level 6/Level 7 Auto Lock Time 60 s Function to change the time until relocking after unlocking with the wireless door lock function. 30 s/60 s/120 s Wireless Auto Lock ON Function to control the automatic relocking of doors after unlocking with the wireless door lock function. ON/OFF

WIRELESS DOOR LOCK CONTROL SYSTEM - DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART

The door control receiver is used to receive electrical waves relating to the entry functions of the smart key system (for Entry Function). The certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) decodes the requested smart key system (for Entry Function) operation by identifying a key code based on the electric waves received via the door control receiver. The door control receiver receives a signal from the door control transmitter and sends signals to the main body ECU (cowl side junction block LH) through the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly). The certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) then sends a command, according to the requested operation, to each ECU (ex. if door lock operation is requested, the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) sends a door lock command to the main body ECU).

This DTC is output when one of the following occurs: 1) a short in RDA or RSSI to ground between the certification ECU [smart key ECU assembly] and the door control receiver, or 2) a short in RDA or RSSI to ground when RCO (5 V) output from the ECU is off.

Note. When replacing or inspecting the door control receiver and wire harness, do not change the position or length of the wire harness. If the wire harness is too close to the door control receiver, entry and wireless function performance may be affected. Before performing the inspection, check that there are no problems related to the CAN communication system and LIN communication system. When using the Techstream with the engine switch off to troubleshoot: Connect the Techstream to the vehicle, and turn the front door courtesy light switch LH on and off at 1.5 second intervals until communication between the Techstream and vehicle begins.

In some cases, wireless door lock control functions are normal but the turn signal lights and wireless door lock buzzer are not. Malfunctions may be present in the main body ECU (cowl side junction block LH), certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly), turn signal lights, and/or wireless door lock buzzer signal outputs.

Note. Before performing the inspection, check that there are no problems related to the CAN communication system and LIN communication system. When troubleshooting a function, first make sure that the answer-back function is set to the default setting. Check that DTC B1242 is not output. When troubleshooting a function, first make sure that the open door warning function is set to the default setting.

  1. REMOVE TRANSMITTER BATTERY NOTE: Take extra care when handling these precision electronic components. Push the release hook knob and extract the emergency key. Insert a precision screwdriver into the gap, and turn the screwdriver to detach the transmitter housing cover. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use. Remove the battery (lithium battery: CR1632). NOTE: Do not push the terminals with your finger. Do not forcibly pry up the battery. The terminals may be damaged. Do not touch the battery with wet hands. Water may cause rust. Do not touch or move any components inside the transmitter. It may interfere with proper operation.
  2. INSTALL TRANSMITTER BATTERY Install a new battery (lithium battery: CR1632) with the positive (+) side facing upward, as shown in the illustration. NOTE: Do not bend the transmitter battery electrode during insertion. Keep the transmitter cover interior free of dust and oil. Install the transmitter housing cover by pressing down on it as shown in the illustration. Insert the mechanical key into the transmitter. Press one of the transmitter switches and check that the LED illuminates.
