  1. INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAK CAUTION: Do not remove the radiator cap while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns. Fill the radiator with coolant and attach a radiator cap tester. Warm up the engine. Using the radiator cap tester, increase the pressure inside the radiator to 123 kPa (1.3 kgf/cm 2 , 17.8 psi), and check that the pressure does not drop. If the pressure drops, check the hoses, radiator and water pump for leaks. If no external leaks are found, check the neater core, cylinder block and head.
  2. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL IN RESERVOIR Check that the engine coolant level is between the L and F lines when the engine is cold. If the engine coolant is below the L line, check for leaks and add "TOYOTA Super Long Life Coolant" or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite and non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology to the F line. NOTE: Do not substitute plain water for engine coolant.
  3. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT QUALITY Remove the radiator cap. CAUTION: Do not remove the radiator cap while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns. Check if there are any excessive deposits of rust or scales around the radiator cap and radiator filler hole. Also, the coolant should be free of oil. If excessively dirty, clean the coolant passage and replace the coolant. Install the radiator cap.
  4. INSPECT FLUID COUPLING ASSEMBLY Check the fluid coupling for damage or silicon oil leaks. If necessary, replace the fluid coupling.

  4. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT CAUTION: Do not remove the radiator cap while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns. Loosen the radiator drain cock plug. HINT: Collect the coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area. Remove the radiator cap. Then drain the coolant from the radiator. Loosen the 2 cylinder block drain cock plugs. Then drain the coolant from the engine. Tighten the 2 cylinder block drain cock plugs. Torque: 13 N*m (133 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf) Tighten the radiator drain cock plug by hand.
  5. ADD ENGINE COOLANT Add engine coolant. Standard Capacity: 16.7 liters (17.6 US qts, 14.7 lmp. qts) NOTE: Do not substitute plain water for engine coolant. HINT: TOYOTA vehicles are filled with TOYOTA SLLC at the factory. In order to avoid damage to the engine cooling system and other technical problems, only use TOYOTA SLLC or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology (coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology consists of a combination of low phosphates and organic acids). Slowly pour coolant into the radiator reservoir until it reaches the F line. Install the reservoir cap. Press the No. 1 and No. 2 radiator hoses several times by hand, and then check the coolant level. If the coolant level is low, add coolant. Install the radiator cap. Start the engine and warm it up until the thermostat opens. HINT: The thermostat opening timing can be confirmed by pressing the radiator inlet hose by hand, and checking when the engine coolant starts to flow inside the hose. Maintain the engine speed at 2000 to 2500 rpm. NOTE: Make sure that the radiator reservoir still has some coolant in it. Pay attention to the needle of the water temperature meter. Make sure that the needle does not show an abnormally high temperature. If there is not enough coolant, the engine may burn out or overheat. Immediately after starting the engine, if the radiator reservoir does not have any coolant, perform the following: 1) stop the engine, 2) wait until the coolant has cooled down, and 3) add coolant until the coolant is filled to the F line. Run the engine at 2000 rpm until the coolant level has stabilized. Press the No. 1 and No. 2 radiator hoses several times by hand to bleed air. CAUTION: Wear protective gloves. Be careful as the radiator hoses are hot. Keep your hands away from the fan. Stop the engine, and wait until the engine coolant cools down to ambient temperature. CAUTION: Do not remove the radiator cap while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns. Check that the coolant level is between the F and L lines. If the coolant level is below the L line, repeat all of the procedures above. If the coolant level is above the F line, drain coolant so that the coolant level is between the F and L lines.

  1. INSPECT WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY Turn the pulley and check that the water pump bearing moves smoothly and quietly. If necessary, replace the water pump. Visually check the air hole and drain hole for coolant leakage. If leakage is found, replace the water pump.

  13. REMOVE WATER INLET HOUSING Disconnect the No. 2 and No. 3 air hoses. Disconnect the air pump connector. Disconnect the air pump connector clamp holder. Using a clip remover, detach the wire harness clamp. Disconnect the No. 5 water by-pass hose. Remove the air tube bracket bolt. Disconnect the No. 3 water by-pass hose and remove the 3 bolts and water inlet housing. Remove the gasket from the water pump.
  14. REMOVE WATER PUMP PULLEY Using SST, hold the water pump pulley. SST 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000) Remove the 4 bolts and water pump pulley.
  15. REMOVE WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY Remove the 8 bolts, water pump and gasket.

  1. INSTALL WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY Install a new gasket and the water pump with the 8 bolts shown in the illustration. Torque: for bolt A 47 N*m (479 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf) for bolt B 23 N*m (235 kgf*cm, 17 ft.*lbf) for bolt C 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) Standard Bolt BOLTS LENGTH SPECIFICATION Item Length Thread Diameter Bolt A 80 mm (3.15 in.) 10 mm (0.394 in.)   2. INSTALL WATER PUMP PULLEY Temporarily install the pulley with the 4 bolts. Using SST, hold the pulley and tighten the 4 bolts. SST 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000) Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)
  3. INSTALL WATER INLET HOUSING Install a new gasket to the water pump. Install the water inlet housing with the 3 bolts and connect the No. 3 water by-pass hose. Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) HINT: Install the hose so that the direction of the hose clamp is as indicated in the illustration. Install the air tube bracket bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) Connect the No. 5 water by-pass hose. HINT: Install the hose so that the direction of the hose clamp is as indicated in the illustration. Connect the air pump connector clamp holder. Attach the wire harness clamp. Connect the air pump connector. Connect the No. 2 and No. 3 air hoses.
  4. CONNECT NO. 2 WATER BY-PASS PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ Oil Cooler) Connect the water by-pass pipe with water hose. HINT: Install the hose so that the direction of the hose clamp is as indicated in the illustration. Install the 3 bolts. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) Connect the No. 6 water by-pass hose.

  1. INSPECT WATER INLET SUB-ASSEMBLY WITH THERMOSTAT HINT: The valve opening temperature is stamped on the water inlet with thermostat. Immerse the water inlet with thermostat in water and gradually heat the water. Check the valve opening temperature. Standard valve opening temperature: 80 to 84°C (176 to 183°F) If the valve opening temperature is not within the specified range, replace the water inlet with thermostat. Check the valve lift. Standard valve lift: 10.0 mm (0.394 in.) or more at 95°C (203°F) If the valve lift is not as specified, replace the water inlet with thermostat. Check that the valve is fully closed when the water inlet with thermostat is at a low temperature (below 77°C (171°F)). If it is not fully closed, replace the water inlet with thermostat.

  1. INSPECT RADIATOR CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY CAUTION: To avoid the danger of being burned, do not remove the radiator cap while the engine and radiator are still hot, as fluid and steam can be blown out under pressure. Measure the valve opening pressure. If there are water stains or foreign matter on rubber packing 1, 2 or 3, clean it by using water and finger scouring. Check that rubber packing 1, 2 and 3 are not deformed, cracked or swollen. Check that rubber packing 3 and 4 are not stuck together. Apply engine coolant to rubber packing 2 and 3. Prepare a radiator cap tester, and tilt it more than 30°. Pump the cap tester several times, and check the maximum pressure*. Pumping speed: 1 pump per second HINT: *: Even if the cap cannot maintain the maximum pressure, it is not a defect.   2. INSPECT FINS FOR BLOCKAGE Check that the radiator and condenser are not blocked with leaves, dirt, or insects. Clean the hose connections. If the fins are blocked, wash them with water or a steam cleaner. NOTE: If the distance between the steam cleaner and core is too close, the fins may be damaged. Keep the following injection distance.   14. REMOVE NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE
  15. REMOVE FAN SHROUD Loosen the 4 nuts holding the fluid coupling fan. Remove the fan and generator V-belt (See «REMOVAL»(/toyota/land-cruiser/200-2007-2012/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical) ). Disconnect the reservoir hose from the upper radiator tank. W/ Air Cooled Transmission Oil Cooler: Detach the claw to open the flexible hose clamp. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the oil cooler tube from the fan shroud. Remove the 2 bolts holding the fan shroud. Remove the 4 nuts of the fluid coupling fan, and then remove the shroud together with the coupling fan. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the radiator core. Remove the fan pulley.
  16. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY Disconnect the 2 oil cooler hoses. Remove the 4 bolts and radiator.

  1. INSTALL RADIATOR ASSEMBLY Set the radiator bracket hooks to the radiator support holes. Install the radiator with the 4 bolts. Torque: 18 N*m (184 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf) Connect the 2 oil cooler hoses.
  2. INSTALL FAN SHROUD Install the fan pulley. Place the shroud together with the coupling fan between the radiator and engine. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the radiator core. Temporarily install the fluid coupling fan to the fluid coupling bracket with the 4 nuts. Tighten the nuts as much as possible by hand. Attach the claws of the shroud to the radiator as shown in the illustration. Install the shroud with the 2 bolts. Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf) Connect the oil cooler tube to the fan shroud with the 2 bolts. Torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) W/ Air Cooled Transmission Oil Cooler: Pass the hose through the flexible hose clamp and close the clamp as shown in the illustration. Connect the reservoir hose to the upper radiator tank. Install the fan and generator V-belt (See «INSTALLATION»(/toyota/land-cruiser/200-2007-2012/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical) ). Tighten the 4 nuts of the fluid coupling fan. Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)

  14. INSTALL TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER AIR DUCT (w/ Air Cooled Transmission Oil Cooler) Install the oil cooler air duct with the 4 bolts. Torque: 4.9 N*m (50 kgf*cm, 43 in.*lbf)
