ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
Note. In this step, the terms "cold" and "hot" refer to the temperature of the coils. "Cold" means approximately -10 to 50°C (14 to 122°F). "Hot" means approximately 50 to 100°C (122 to 212°F).

- PERFORM SPARK TEST Check for DTCs. NOTE: If a DTC is present, perform troubleshooting procedures for that DTC. Check if spark occurs. Remove the ignition coil. Remove the spark plug. Install the spark plugs to the ignition coil and connect the ignition coil connector. Disconnect the 8 injector connectors. Ground the spark plug. Visually check that sparks occur while the engine is being cranked. NOTE: To prevent gasoline from being injected from injectors during this test, crank the engine 5 to 10 seconds at a time. Be sure to ground the spark plug when checking. If the ignition coil has been struck or dropped, replace it. Do not crank the engine for more than 2 seconds. Perform the spark test according to the flowchart below. Check that the wire harness side connector of the ignition coil with igniter is securely connected. Result SPARK TEST (1 OF 2) Result Proceed to NG Connect connector securely. OK Go to next step Perform a spark test on each ignition coil with igniter. Replace the ignition coil with igniter with a normal one. Perform the spark test again. Result SPARK TEST (2 OF 2) Result Proceed to OK Replace ignition coil with igniter. NG Go to next step Check the power supply to the ignition coil with igniter. Turn the ignition switch ON. Check that there is battery voltage at the ignition coil positive (+) terminal. Result POWER SUPPLY TO IGNITION COIL Result Proceed to NG Check wiring between engine switch and ignition coil with igniter. OK Go to next step Check the resistance of the camshaft position sensor. Standard resistance CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (1 OF 2) Temperature Specified Condition Cold 1,630 to 2,740 ohm Hot 2,065 to 3,225 ohm Result CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (2 OF 2) Result Proceed to NG Replace camshaft position sensor. OK Go to next step Check the resistance of the crankshaft position sensor. Standard resistance CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (1 OF 2) Temperature Specified Condition Cold 985 to 1,600 ohm Hot 1,265 to 1,890 ohm Result CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (2 OF 2) Result Proceed to NG Replace crankshaft position sensor. OK Go to next step Check IGT signal from the ECM. Result ECM Result Proceed to NG Check ECM OK Repair wiring between ignition coil and ECM. Using a 16 mm plug wrench, install the 8 spark plugs. Torque: 17.5 N*m (178 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf) Install the ignition coil with the bolt. Torque: 7.5 N*m (76 kgf*cm, 66 in.*lbf)
- CHECK SPARK PLUG NOTE: Do not use a wire brush for cleaning. Do not attempt to adjust the electrode gap of a used spark plug. Check the electrode. Using a megohmmeter, measure the insulation resistance. Insulation resistance: 10 Mohm or more HINT: If a megohmmeter is not available, perform the following simple inspection instead. Alternative inspection method: Quickly accelerate the engine to 4,000 rpm 5 times. Remove the spark plug. Visually check the spark plug. If the electrode is dry, the spark plug is functioning properly. If the electrode is damp, proceed to the next step. Check the spark plug for any damage on its thread and insulator. If there is damage, replace the spark plug. If not, reinstall the spark plug. Recommended spark plug SPARK PLUG Manufacturer Spark Plug Type DENSO SK20R11 NGK IFR6A11 Check the spark plug electrode gap. Maximum electrode gap for used spark plug: 1.3 mm (0.051 in.) If the gap is greater than the maximum, replace the spark plug. Electrode gap for new spark plug: 1.0 to 1.1 mm (0.039 to 0.043 in.) NOTE: When adjusting the gap of a new spark plug, bend only the base of the ground electrode. Do not touch the tip. Never attempt to adjust the gap of a used spark plug.

- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
- REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (See «REMOVAL»(/toyota/land-cruiser/100-2-2005-2007/remont/testing-diagnostics/#engine-control-system) )
- REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE (See «REMOVAL»(/toyota/land-cruiser/100-2-2005-2007/remont/testing-diagnostics/#engine-control-system) )
- DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE Disconnect the 2 engine wire clamps from the cylinder head cover LH side.
- REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connector. Remove the bolt and ignition coil.

- INSTALL IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY Install the ignition coil with the bolt. Torque: 7.5 N*m (76 kgf*cm, 66 in.*lbf) Connect the connector.
- CONNECT ENGINE WIRE Connect the 2 engine wire clamps to the cylinder head cover LH side.
- INSTALL INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE (See «INSTALLATION»(/toyota/land-cruiser/100-2-2005-2007/remont/testing-diagnostics/#engine-control-system) )
- INSTALL V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (See «INSTALLATION»(/toyota/land-cruiser/100-2-2005-2007/remont/testing-diagnostics/#engine-control-system) )
- CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
- PERFORM INITIALIZATION Perform «INITIALIZATION»(/toyota/land-cruiser/100-2-2005-2007/remont/hoistjack/#introduction__initialization) . NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

REMOVAL
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
- DRAIN ENGINE «COOLANT»(/toyota/land-cruiser/100-2-2005-2007/remont/cooling-system-mechanical/#engine-cooling-system)
- REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD ASSEMBLY Remove the intake manifold assembly (see «REMOVAL»(/toyota/land-cruiser/100-2-2005-2007/remont/mechanical/#intake) ).
- REMOVE VVT SENSOR (for Bank 1) Disconnect the connector. Remove the bolt and sensor.
- REMOVE VVT SENSOR (for Bank 2) Disconnect the connector. Remove the bolt and sensor.
INSTALLATION
- INSTALL VVT SENSOR (for Bank 1) Install the sensor with the bolt. Torque: 7.5 N*m (76 kgf*cm, 66 in.*lbf) Connect the connector.
- INSTALL VVT SENSOR (for Bank 2) Install the sensor with the bolt. Torque: 7.5 N*m (76 kgf*cm, 66 in.*lbf) Connect the connector.
- INSTALL INTAKE MANIFOLD ASSEMBLY Install the intake manifold assembly (see «INSTALLATION»(/toyota/land-cruiser/100-2-2005-2007/remont/mechanical/#intake) ).
- CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
- ADD ENGINE «COOLANT»(/toyota/land-cruiser/100-2-2005-2007/remont/cooling-system-mechanical/#engine-cooling-system)
- CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS Check for the engine coolant leaks (see «COOLING SYSTEM»(/toyota/land-cruiser/100-2-2005-2007/remont/cooling-system-mechanical/#engine-cooling-system) ).
- PERFORM INITIALIZATION Perform «INITIALIZATION»(/toyota/land-cruiser/100-2-2005-2007/remont/hoistjack/#introduction__initialization) . NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
