for Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL)

  1. This circuit is necessary for the Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL) built into the radio receiver assembly. The Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL) function automatically adjusts the audio system volume level in order to compensate for increased vehicle noise (vehicle noise tends to increase as vehicle speed increases). The ASL adjusts the volume level based upon vehicle speed signals that it receives from the combination meter assembly.

for "Bluetooth"

  1. Speed signals are received from the combination meter assembly and used to cancel "Bluetooth" function operation. The radio receiver assembly recognizes that the vehicle is being driven and makes it impossible to connect or register a "Bluetooth" device while driving.

HINT

  1. A voltage of 12 V or 5 V is output from each ECU and then input to the combination meter assembly. The signal is changed to a pulse signal at the transistor in the combination meter assembly. Each ECU controls the respective system based on the pulse signal.
  2. If a short occurs in any of the ECUs or in the wire harness connected to an ECU, all systems in the following diagram will not operate normally.

Connect an oscilloscope to terminal E1-9 (+S) and body ground. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn a wheel slowly. Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below. Item Condition Tool setting 5 V/DIV., 20 ms./DIV. Vehicle condition Wheel being rotated OK The waveform is similar to that shown in the illustration. HINT: When the system is functioning normally, one wheel revolution generates 4 pulses. As the vehicle speed increases, the width indicated by (A) in the illustration narrows. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Component with harness connected (Combination Meter Assembly) NG --> See step 5 OK: Go to next step

Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition E24-4 - E3-3 (SPD) Always Below 1 ohms NG --> REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY - JUNCTION CONNECTOR) OK --> REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (JUNCTION CONNECTOR)
  4. REPLACE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-422543-S13822427872011092600000)
  5. GO TO METER / GAUGE SYSTEM. Refer to «Speed Signal Circuit»(ref-422465-S42293094162011092600000)

This circuit sends an operation signal from the steering pad switch assembly to the radio receiver assembly.

If there is an open in the circuit, the audio system cannot be operated using the steering pad switch assembly.

If there is a short in the circuit, the same condition as when a switch is continuously depressed occurs.

Therefore, the radio receiver assembly cannot be operated using the steering pad switch assembly, and also the radio receiver assembly itself cannot function.

Scheme 124

Scheme 124: WIRING DIAGRAM

w/ Back Door Speaker

  1. If there is a short in a speaker circuit, the stereo component amplifier assembly detects the short and stops output to the speakers.
  2. Thus sound cannot be heard from the speakers even if there is no malfunction in the stereo component amplifier assembly or speakers.
  3. If a short is detected in a speaker circuit, no sound can be heard from the speakers.

w/o Back Door Speaker

  1. If there is a short in this circuit, the radio receiver assembly detects it and stops output to the speakers.
  2. Thus sound cannot be heard from the speakers even if there is no malfunction in the radio receiver assembly or speakers.
  3. If a short is detected in a speaker circuit, no sound can be heard from the speakers.

The radio receiver assembly sends the sound signal to the stereo component amplifier assembly through this circuit.

The sound signal that has been sent is amplified by the stereo component amplifier assembly, and then is sent to the speakers.

If there is an open or short in the circuit, sound cannot be heard from the speakers even if there is no malfunction in the stereo component amplifier assembly, radio receiver assembly or speakers.

This circuit sends a signal to the stereo component amplifier assembly to mute noise. Because of that, the noise produced by changing the sound source ceases.

If there is an open in the circuit, noise can be heard from the speakers when changing the sound source.

If there is a short in the circuit, even though the stereo component amplifier assembly is functioning, no sound, or only an extremely faint sound, can be heard.

The multi-media interface ECU sends a mute signal to the radio receiver assembly.

The radio receiver assembly controls the volume according to the mute signal from the multi-media interface ECU.

The mute signal is sent to reduce noise and popping sounds generated when switching modes.

If there is an open in the circuit, noise can be heard from the speakers when changing the sound source.

If there is a short in the circuit, even though the radio receiver assembly is functioning, no sound, or only an extremely faint sound, can be heard.

Each audio system component connected to the AVC-LAN (communication bus) transfers switch signals using the AVC-LAN.

If a short to +B or short to ground occurs in the AVC-LAN, the audio system will not function normally because communication is not possible.

The circuit is necessary for the Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL) built into the stereo component amplifier assembly.

HINT

This circuit is used when an incoming cellular phone voice in the "Bluetooth" hands-free system is received.
