Performing these maintenance checks on the vehicle is the owner's responsibility. The owner may perform the maintenance or take the vehicle to a service center. 4. TIRE ROTATION Check the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual supplement (See «INSPECTION»(/toyota/avalon/xx30-2005-2007/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tire-wheel) ).
5. WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES Check the blades for wear or cracks whenever they are unable to wipe the windshield clean. Replace them if necessary.
6. FLUID LEAKS Check under the vehicle for leaking fuel, oil water and other fluids. If you smell gasoline fumes or notice any leaks, locate the cause and correct it.
7. DOORS AND ENGINE HOOD Check that all of the doors and the tailgate operate smoothly and that all the latches lock securely. When the primary latch is released, check that the engine hood secondary latch prevents the hood from opening.

2. LIGHTS Check that the headlights, stop lamps, taillights, turn signal lights, and other lights illuminate or blink properly. Also, check if they have enough brightness. Check that the headlights are aimed properly.
3. WARNING LIGHTS AND BUZZERS Check that all the warning lights and buzzers are working.
4. HORNS Check that the horn is working.
5. WINDSHIELD GLASS Check for scratches, pits or abrasions.
6. WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER Check that the wind washers are aimed properly. Also, check that the washer fluid hits the center of the operating rage of each wiper on the windshield. Check that the wipers streak or not.
7. WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER When the heater or air conditioner is on the defroster setting, check that air comes out of the defroster outlet.
8. REAR VIEW MIRROR Check that the rear view mirror is securely mounted.
9. SUN VISORS Check that the sun visors move freely and are securely mounted.
10. STEERING WHEEL Check that the steering wheel has the proper freeplay. Also check for steering difficulty, freeplay in the steering wheel and unusual noises.
11. SEATS Check that the seat adjusters, seatback recliner and other front seat controls operate smoothly. Check that all the latches lock securely in all positions. Check that the locks hold securely in all latched positions. Check that the head restraints move up and down smoothly and that the locks hold securely in all latched positions. When the rear seatbacks are folded down, check that the latches lock securely.
12. SEAT BELTS Check that the seat belt system such as the buckles, retractors and anchors operate properly and smoothly. Check that the belt webbing is not cut, frayed, worn or damaged. Replace if necessary.
13. ACCELERATOR PEDAL Check the pedal for smooth operation, uneven pedal effort and catching.
14. BRAKE PEDAL Check the pedal for smooth operation. Check that the pedal has the proper reserve distance and freeplay (See «ADJUSTMENT»(ref-245142-S28954417792006102300000) ). Start the engine and check the brake booster function.
15. BRAKES In a safe place, check that the vehicle remains straight when applying the brakes.
16. PARKING BRAKE Check that the lever has the proper range of motion (See «PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM»(ref-245143-S09337215242006102300000) ). On a low incline, check that the parking brake alone can stabilize the vehicle.
17. AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE "PARK" MECHANISM Check the lock release button of the shift lever for proper and smooth operation. When the shift lever is in the P position and all brakes are released on a low incline. Check that the vehicle is stabilized.

2. WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID Check that there is sufficient fluid in the tank.
3. ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL Check that the coolant level is between the "FULL" and "LOW" lines on the see-through reservoir.
4. RADIATOR AND HOSES Check that the front of the radiator is clean and not blocked by leaves, dirt and bugs. Check the hoses for cracks, kinks, rot or loose connections.
5. BATTERY ELECTROLYTE LEVEL Check that the electrolyte level of all the battery cells is between the upper and lower lines on the case.
6. BRAKE FLUID LEVEL Check that the brake fluid levels are near the upper level line on the see-through reservoirs.
7. ENGINE DRIVE BELT Check the drive belt for fraying, cracks, wear and oiliness.
8. ENGINE OIL LEVEL Check the level on the dipstick with the engine turned off.
9. POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL Check the level on the dipstick. The level should be in the "HOT" or "COLD" range depending on the fluid temperature.
10. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL Check the Automatic Transmission fluid (See «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID»(ref-245136-S22956670882006102400000) ).
11. EXHAUST SYSTEM Check for unusual exhaust sounds or abnormal exhaust fumes. Locate the cause and correct it.

HINT

Inspect these items on a cooled down engine.

1. REPLACE TIMING CHAIN Replace the timing chain (See «REPLACEMENT»(ref-245126-S30932471372006102300000) ).
2. INSPECT DRIVE BELT Inspect the drive belt (See «INSPECTION»(ref-245126-S11126526032006102300000) ).
3. INSPECT SPARK PLUGS Inspect spark plug (See «INSPECTION»(ref-245133-S07783006802006102300000) ).
4. INSPECT AIR FILTER Remove the air filter. Visually check that the air filter is not excessively damaged or oily. If necessary, replace the air filter. Reinstall the air filter.
5. REPLACE AIR FILTER Replace the air filter with a new one.
6. REPLACE ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER Replace the engine oil and oil filter (See «REPLACEMENT»(/toyota/avalon/xx30-2005-2007/remont/lubrication-system/#engine-lubrication-system__replacement) ).
7. REPLACE ENGINE COOLANT Replace the engine coolant (See «REPLACEMENT»(ref-245131-S26186014672006102300000) ).
8. INSPECT FUEL TANK CAP GASKET Inspect the fuel tank cap gasket (See «INSPECTION»(/toyota/avalon/xx30-2005-2007/remont/auxiliary-emission-control-systems/#emission-control-system) ).
9. INSPECT FUEL LINES AND CONNECTIONS AND FUEL TANK VAPOR VENT SYSTEM HOSES AND FUEL TANK BANDS Visually check the fuel lines for cracks, leakage, loose connections, deformation or tank band looseness.
10. INSPECT EXHAUST PIPES AND MOUNTINGS Visually check the pipes, hangers and connections for severe corrosion, leaks or damage.

Scheme 1

1. INSPECT BRAKE LINE PIPES AND HOSES HINT: Work in a well-lighted area. Turn the front wheels fully to the right or left before beginning. Using a mirror, check the entire circumference and length of brake lines and hoses for: Damage Wear Deformation Cracks Corrosion Leaks Bends Twists Check all the clamps for tightness and the connections for leakage. Check that the hoses and lines are not near sharp edges, moving parts and the exhaust system. Check that the lines are installed pass through the center of the grommets.
2. INSPECT FRONT BRAKE PADS AND DISCS Inspect the front brake pads and discs (See «INSPECTION»(ref-245142-S19992783832006102300000) ).
3. INSPECT REAR BRAKE PADS AND DISCS Inspect the rear brake pads and discs (See «INSPECTION»(ref-245142-S19888250742006102300000) ).
4. INSPECT REAR BRAKE LININGS AND DRUMS Inspect the rear brake linings and drums (See «INSPECTION»(ref-245143-S11721962112006102300000) ).
5. INSPECT OR CHANGE BRAKE FLUID Inspect or change the brake fluid (See «BRAKE FLUID»(ref-245142-S20397841212006102300000) ). Fluid: SAE J1703 or FMVSS No.116 DOT3

Scheme 2

1. INSPECT STEERING LINKAGE Check the steering wheel freeplay (See «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION»(ref-245144-S42751966272006102300000) ). Check the steering linkage for looseness or damage. Check that the tie rod ends do not have excessive play. Check that the dust seals and boots are not damaged. Check that the boot clamps are not loose.
2. INSPECT STEERING GEAR HOUSING OIL Check the steering gear housing for oil leakage. If oil is leaking, find the cause and repair it.
3. INSPECT BALL JOINT AND DUST COVER Inspect the ball joints for excessive looseness. Jack up the front of the vehicle and place wooden blocks with a height of 180 to 200 mm (7.09 to 7.87 in.) under the front tires. Lower the vehicle until the front coil spring has about half its ordinary load. Place stands under the vehicle for safety. Check that the front wheels are pointing straight ahead. Use chocks. Using a lever, pry up the end of the lower arm. Check the amount of play. Maximum ball joint vertical play: 0 mm (0 in.) If there is any play, replace the ball joint. Check the dust cover for damage.
4. INSPECT DRIVE SHAFT BOOTS Check the drive shaft boots for loose clamps, grease leakage, kink or damage.
5. CHECK TRANSAXLE OIL Visually check the transaxle for oil (fluid) leakage. If oil is leaking, find the cause and repair it.
6. ROTATE TIRES Rotate the tires (See «INSPECTION»(/toyota/avalon/xx30-2005-2007/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tire-wheel) ).

1. TIGHTEN BOLTS AND NUTS ON CHASSIS AND BODY Where necessary, tighten all the parts of the chassis. Front axle and suspension Drive train Rear axle and suspension Brake system Engine mounting, etc. Where necessary, tighten all the parts of the body. Seat belt system Seat Doors and hood Body mountings Fuel tank Exhaust pipe system, etc.
2. REPLACE AIR CONDITIONING FILTER Remove the glove compartment assembly. Remove the filter case from the filter outlet. Remove the filter from the filter case. Replace the filter with a new one. Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
3. ROAD TEST Check the engine and chassis for abnormal noises. Check that the vehicle does not wander or pull to one side. Check that the brakes work properly and do not drag. Do setting of the parking brake shoes and drum.
4. BODY INSPECTION Check the body exterior for dents, scratches and rust. Check the underbody for rust and damage. If necessary, replace or repair.
5. FINAL INSPECTION Check the operation of the body parts: Hood: Auxiliary catch operates properly Hood locks securely when closed Front and rear doors: Door locks operate properly Doors close properly Back door: Door lock operates properly Seats: Seat adjusts easily and locks securely in any position Front seat back locks securely in any position Folding-down rear seatbacks lock securely Be sure to deliver a clean car. Especially check: Steering wheel Shift lever knob All switch knobs Door handles Seats
