When turn the ignition switch to the ON position, the combination meter assembly communicates with the ECM by the direct line.

- INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY Check the input signal waveform. Remove the combination meter assembly with the connector(s) still connected. Connect the oscilloscope to the terminals C9-6 (TM INPUT) and body ground. Start the engine. Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below. COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY Item Condition Tool Setting 5V/DIV., 10ms/DIV. - CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - ECM) Disconnect the C9 and E9 connectors. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. - CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR Disconnect the F14 connector from the fuel sender gauge assembly. Check the meter indicator conditions according to the table below. - INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly. Check that the float position is between E and F. Confirm that the speedometer, the tachometer, the fuel receiver gauge and SFI system are normal, then check this circuit.
Refer to SFI system for 1GR-FE (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ) or 2UZ-FE (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR for 2UZ-FE).
HINT
If this circuit has a malfunction, average fuel consumption display/instantaneous fuel consumption display/possible running distance display cannot be displayed correctly.

- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY Disengage the 7 clips. Disconnect the connectors and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly.
- REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY Remove the 3 screws. Loosen the 2 bolts and remove the combination meter assembly.

- REMOVE SPEEDOMETER GLASS Remove the 2 screws. Disengage the 6 claws and remove the speedometer glass.
- REMOVE NO. 1 COMBINATION METER COVER Remove the 10 screws and No. 1 combination meter cover.
- REMOVE INCLINATION SENSOR ASSEMBLY Remove the 2 screws and inclination sensor assembly.
