IDENTIFICATION
Vehicles equipped with VF3AM, One-Touch 4WD transfer case, can be identified by the 2-4 selector switch on transfer case gear shift lever. For vehicles not equipped with 2-4 selector switch, see DIAGNOSIS & OVERHAUL article.
DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
| WARNING | Vehicle is equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. When servicing vehicle, use care to avoid accidental air bag deployment. SIR system-related components are located in various locations throughout interior and exterior of vehicle, depending on application. Do not use electrical test equipment on or near these circuits. If necessary, deactivate SIR system before servicing components. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM article in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article in RESTRAINTS. |
TRANSFER SHIFT ACTUATOR MOTOR OPERATION
| CAUTION | While testing terminals, be careful not to touch neighboring terminals or metallic parts of relay housing. |
Note. For testing transfer shift actuator, use heater main relay. (Scheme 29)
Locate shift actuator assembly on top left side of transfer case. see scheme 2 Using heater main relay to test actuator, connect wires as shown and check actuator operation. (Scheme 30) If actuator does not operate as described, replace actuator.
