- Disconnect negative battery cable at transaxle and at battery. Disconnect transaxle wiring harness and clamps. Disconnect gear select cable from transaxle. Drain cooling system and remove water intake hose.
- Remove transaxle-to-engine bolts. Remove starter. Remove exhaust manifold shield. Support engine. From under hood, remove or disconnect any other transaxle components that require underhood access.
- Raise and support vehicle. Drain fluid. Remove engine dust shields. Disconnect oil cooler hoses. Remove mounts, engine-to-transaxle stiffener and exhaust pipe. Remove flywheel dust shield and drive plate bolts. Pry out axle shaft joints from differential. Disconnect lower suspension arms and pull axle shafts from differential.
- Remove rear engine mount and bracket. Remove engine-to-transaxle bolts and nuts. Support engine with a transmission jack. Remove left-side engine mount. Remove transaxle and torque converter from engine compartment. Ensure torque converter does not fall off transaxle. Remove left-side engine mount from transaxle case.
- Install torque converter on transaxle. Measure distance from edge of transaxle case to torque converter mounting flange. Distance should be .929-1.002" (23.6-25.5 mm). If measured distance is less than specification, torque converter is not installed correctly.
- To install transaxle, reverse removal procedures. Ensure oil seals are not damaged when axle shafts are installed. Push in axle shafts, DO NOT hit axle shafts with a hammer during installation. Tighten all fasteners to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-91660-S34292316752001032600000) . Check fluid level and adjust as necessary. Road test vehicle and check for leaks.
