Water Pump Inspection

Note. Do not disassemble water pump. If any repair is required on pump, replace it as assembly.

Scheme 11

Scheme 11: Water Pump Inspection

Scheme 12

Scheme 12
  1. Rotate water pump by hand to check for smooth operation. If pump does not rotate smoothly or makes abnormal noise, replace it.
  2. Inspect impeller (2) of water pump (1) for damage. Replace as necessary. NOTE: Do not disassemble water pump to check the water pump impeller.

Scheme 13: Removal

Scheme 14

Scheme 14
  1. Disconnect negative cable at battery.
  2. Drain coolant system by loosening drain plug (1) of radiator.
  3. Disconnect radiator inlet hose from radiator.
  4. Loosen cooling fan / clutch nuts.
  5. Remove radiator shroud securing clips.
  6. Then remove cooling fan / clutch and radiator shroud.

Cooling Fan & Fan Clutch Inspection

Inspect fluid coupling for oil leakage.

If necessary, replace fan clutch assembly. Do not disassemble clutch assembly.

Scheme 19

Scheme 19
  1. Disconnect negative cable at battery.
  2. Drain cooling system by loosening drain plug (1) of radiator.
  3. When servicing vehicle equipped with A/T (Automatic Transmission), place oil pan under radiator (1) and disconnect A/T fluid hoses (inlet hose (Outlet from oil cooler) (2), outlet hose (Inlet to oil cooler) (3)) from radiator (1).
  4. Loosen cooling fan / clutch nuts (1).
  5. Disconnect radiator inlet hose from radiator.
  6. Remove P/S oil tank stay bolts (1) from radiator stay.
  7. Remove radiator shroud securing clips.
  8. Then remove cooling fan / clutch and radiator shroud.
  9. Disconnect water hoses (inlet hose (1), outlet hose (2) and reservoir hose (3) from radiator (4)).
  10. Remove radiator.

Inspection

Check radiator for leakage or damage. Straighten bent fins, if any.

Generator Belt Inspection

[Type A]

Scheme 20

Scheme 20: Generator Belt Inspection
  1. Disconnect negative cable at battery.
  2. Inspect belt for cracks, cuts, deformation, wear and cleanliness. If any of above conditions are found, replace.
  3. Make sure that tension indicator "A" is within the range "a". If indicator "A" comes into the NG range "c" passing "b", replace generator belt with a new one. NOTE: Use mirror when checking belt tension.

[Type B]

Scheme 21

Scheme 21
  1. Inspect belt for cracks, cuts, deformation, wear and cleanliness. If any of above conditions are found replace generator belt.
  2. Check to make sure that tension indicators are as follows in the figure by using mirror. If the tension indicator "B" is found to the left of the indicator "A", replace the generator belt. If new generator belt has been installed, indicator "A" should be within "a" of the figure. If it isn't, means that belt is not installed properly. Reinstall it properly.
