Coupling Description
Coupling is installed in the front part of the rear differential. The 4WD control module determines the vehicle driving and road conditions based on information from the sensors and each control module and changes the driving force distribution of the front and rear wheels by controlling the current to the coupling. The coupling air temperature sensor that is installed in the coupling case measures the coupling's ambient temperature.
The 4WD system has two traction mode (2WD and i-AWD). The position can be selected by the 2WD/i-AWD switch.
Description of 4WD Control System Component Function
| Part Name | Function |
|---|---|
| 2WD/i-AWD switch | Output ON and OFF signal of 2WD/i-AWD switch to 4WD control module. |
| I-AWD indicator light | Indicates vehicle is at i-AWD position. |
| I-AWD warning light | Lights or blinks when 4WD control system has an abnormality. |
| 4WD control module | Controls the current to the coupling assembly and vehicle switching to each position. Diagnosis 4WD control system components. Output operation signal of indicator to BCM. |
| Coupling assembly | The driving forces is generated by the signal transmitted from the 4WD control module to the rear wheels. |
| Coupling air temperature sensor | Measures ambient temperature of the coupling. |
| Transfer oil temperature sensor | Measures transfer oil temperature. |
