FLOOR JACK

Place the jack against the center portion of the front suspension frame or rear axle housing. If jacking up only one end of the vehicle, be sure to block the wheels on the ground in order to ensure safety. After the vehicle is jacked up, support it on safety stands. (Scheme 1)

EMERGENCY JACKING

Ensure that parking park is set. Shift into "P" (Park) for automatic transmission, or "R" (Reverse) for manual transmission. Block the front and rear of the wheel diagonally opposite of the wheel being lifted. Position the jack vertically and raise the jack by turning the handle clockwise until the jack head recess fits around the frame boss. (Scheme 2) Continue to raise the jack slowly until the tire clears the ground. Do not raise vehicle more than necessary.

HOIST

Before applying hoist to underbody, always take vehicle balance throughout service into consideration. Vehicle balance on hoist may change depending on what part to be removed. Before lifting up the vehicle, check to be sure that end of hoist arm is not in contact with brake pipe, fuel pipe, bracket or any other part. (Scheme 3)to identify frame contact points. Lift up the vehicle until all tires are a little off the ground and make sure that the vehicle will not fall off by trying to move vehicle body. Lock hoist after vehicle is hoisted up.

ADJUSTMENTS

Note. Before making any adjustments, the following checks and inspections should be made to ensure correctness of alignment readings and alignment adjustments: Check all tires for proper inflation pressures and approximately the same tread wear. Check for loose ball joints. Check tie-rod ends. If excessive looseness is noted, it must be corrected before adjusting. Check for run-out of wheels and tires. Check vehicle trim heights. If out of limits and a correction is to be made, it must be made before adjusting toe. Check for loose control arms. Check for loose or missing stabilizer bar attachments. Consideration must be given to excess loads, such as tool boxes. If this excess load is normally carried in vehicle, it should remain in vehicle during alignment checks. Consider condition of equipment being used to check alignment and follow manufacturer's instructions. Regardless of equipment used to check alignment, vehicle must be on a level surface.

CAMBER ADJUSTMENT

Camber is not adjustable. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS for reference specification. If camber is out of specification, check for bent or damaged suspension components or body damage.

CASTER ADJUSTMENT

Caster is not adjustable. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS for reference specification. If caster is out of specification, check for bent or damaged suspension components or body damage.

TOE-IN ADJUSTMENT

  1. Measure toe-in and compare to «WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(/suzuki/grand-vitara/i-2000-2006/remont/wheel-alignment/#specifications-procedures__wheel-alignment-specifications). If toe-in is not within specification, go to next step.
  2. Loosen right and left tie rod end lock nuts. Rotate right and left tie rods by the same amount to align toe-in to specification. (Scheme 4) In this adjustment, right and left tie rods should become equal in length. NOTE: Before rotating tie rods, apply grease between tie rods and rack boots so that boots won't be twisted.
  3. After adjustment, tighten lock nuts to specified torque. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(/suzuki/grand-vitara/i-2000-2006/remont/wheel-alignment/#specifications-procedures__torque-specifications).

TURNING ANGLE INSPECTION

Check turning angle with turning radius gauge. (Scheme 5) If turning angle is not correct, check if right and left tie rods are equal in length. Make any necessary adjustments. If tie rods lengths are changed during adjustment, re-check toe-in measurement. See TOE-IN ADJUSTMENT.
