SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM
The airbag system wiring harness is routed near the TCM.
| CAUTION | All airbag system wiring harnesses and connectors are colored yellow. Do not use an electric test equipment to check these circuits. Be careful not to damage the airbag system wiring harness when performing diagnostics or servicing the TCM. |
MEASUREMENT
When measuring the voltage and resistance of the ECM, TCM or each sensor, use a tapered pin with a diameter of less than 0.64 mm (0.025 in) in order to avoid poor contact. Do not insert a pin of more than 0.65 mm (0.026 in) diameter.
BATTERY
Measure the battery voltage and specific gravity of electrolyte.

Make sure that the ground terminal bolt is tightened securely.

CONNECTOR TERMINAL REFERENCE

- Prepare the Subaru Select Monitor kit. Ref. to «PREPARATION TOOL»(ref-356687-S05357886002010022700000) , General Description.
- Prepare PC with Subaru Select Monitor installed.
- Connect the USB cable to the SDI (Subaru Diagnostic Interface) and the USB port of the personal computer (port for Subaru Select Monitor). NOTE: The dedicated port for the Subaru Select Monitor means the USB port which was used to install the Subaru Select Monitor.
- Connect the diagnosis cable to SDI.
- Connect the SDI to the data link connector located in the lower portion of the instrument panel (on the driver's side). CAUTION: Do not connect scan tools other than the Subaru Select Monitor.
- Start the PC.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (engine OFF).
- Run the "PC application for Subaru Select Monitor".
- On the «Main Menu» display screen, select the {Each System Check}.
- On the «System Selection Menu», select {Transmission Control System}.
- After transmission type information pops up, select [OK].
- On the «Transmission Diagnosis» display screen, select {Diagnostic Code(s) Display}.
- On the «Diagnostic Code(s) Display» screen, select the {Temporary Diagnostic Code(s)} or {Memorized Diagnostic Code(s)}
READ CURRENT DATA
- On the «Main Menu» display screen, select the {Each System Check}.
- On the «System Selection Menu», select {Transmission Control System}.
- After transmission type information pops up, select [OK].
- On the «Transmission Diagnosis» screen, select {Current Data Display & Save}.
- Select {Normal sampling} on the «Current Data Display & Save» screen.

CLEAR MEMORY MODE
- Shift the select lever to "P" range.
- On the «Main Menu» display screen, select the {Each System Check}.
- On the «System Selection Menu», select {Transmission Control System}.
- After transmission type information pops up, select [OK].
- On the «Transmission Diagnosis» display screen, select {Clearing Memory}.
- When "Done. Turn ignition switch to OFF" pops up, select [OK].
- Turn the Subaru Select Monitor and ignition switch to OFF. To turn the ignition switch to ON again, wait for more than 10 seconds. NOTE: To clear the previous DTC, use {Clearing Memory}, and to clear the learned value, use {Clear Memories 2}. For details concerning the operation procedure, refer to «SUBARU SELECT MONITOR»(ref-356722-S32609844612010022700000) .

- Shift the select lever to "D" range, and then drive the vehicle with changing the gear from 1st to 5th.
- When driving the vehicle at 5th speed of "D" range, set the gear to manual mode and drive the vehicle by downshifting using "-" of the select lever from 5th --> 4th, 4th --> 3rd, 3rd --> 2nd, and 2nd --> 1st. NOTE: At shifting down, drive the vehicle at least 10 seconds in each speed.
- Shift the select lever to "R" range and drive the vehicle for more than 2 seconds.
PREPARATION FOR LEARNING CONTROL
- Warm-up or cool down until the ATF temperature displayed on the Subaru Select Monitor reaches 60 - 80°C (140 - 176°F).
- Shift the select lever to "P" range.
- Fully apply the parking brake.
- Lift up the vehicle. CAUTION: Be sure to keep the lowest edge of the tires 30 cm or more off the ground because the vehicle vibrates during the work.
- Connect the Subaru Select Monitor to the data link connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON. (Press push button ignition switch twice without depressing brake pedal for push button start.)
- Select {Learning and inspection mode related to AT} on the «Transmission Diagnosis» display screen of Subaru Select Monitor.
- Select {AT learning mode} on the «Learning and inspection mode related to AT» display screen of Subaru Select Monitor.
- Perform the procedures according to the message displayed on the Subaru Select Monitor.
SIMPLE LEARNING
Note. Simple learning is learning performed with the vehicle lifted, without actually running the vehicle.
| CAUTION | Do not turn the power of the Subaru Select Monitor OFF during work, and do not disconnect the data link connector. |
- Follow the messages displayed on the Subaru Select Monitor screen when working. NOTE: For the messages "SHIFT control system learning in progress" and "AWD control system learning in progress", AT OIL TEMP light in the combination meter blinks at a cycle of 2 Hz before learning operation starts. When AT OIL TEMP light in the combination meter goes off, the following message is displayed on the screen. When operation ends abnormally during the learning, AT OIL TEMP light blinks at a cycle of 4 Hz.
- AT simple learning is complete when the message "AT learning normally ended" is displayed. NOTE: If a communication error occurs during learning, restart the «AT learning mode» over from the beginning. If the message "Execute AT learning again after fixing troubles of the vehicle" appears, select [OK] and display the DTC list. After repairing the locations indicated by the DTC, start the "AT learning mode" over from the beginning. If the message "AT learning ended abnormally" is displayed, start the "AT learning mode" over from the beginning. MALFUNCTION CHART Message Main cause of abnormal incompletion "AT learning ended abnormally" A malfunction was detected during AT learning The accelerator pedal was pressed during AT learning An unspecified operation was performed during AT learning Brake pedal not stepped on firmly enough. DRIVING CHECK
Drive actually and check for shifting shock or faults. If shifting shock is felt, perform the learning operation again.
If reducing of shifting shock is not felt, recheck that other parts are normal.
